TEHRAN (Iran News) –In a letter on May 25, 2024, Ayatollah Khamenei had addressed American university students following their courageous defense of the Palestinian people.

The young Western people have responded to the letter, praising the Leader’s tireless endeavors to foster mutual understanding, champion justice and solidarity.

What follows is the full text of the letter, released by letter4leader.com:

“In the name of God

Dear Leader,

We express our deep gratitude to you for your letter full of wisdom and reflection. Your words resonated deep within us, the youth of Europe and North America, and we applaud your valiance in addressing these pivotal matters with candor and conviction.

Your enlightened analysis of the perception of Islam in our societies has served as a beacon of enlightenment. You have illuminated the imperative for us to embark on a personal exploration of this faith, emancipating ourselves from the shackles of prejudice and the distortions propagated by the media.

We are profoundly moved by your impassioned plea for justice, for the relentless pursuit of truth, as well as your unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause and the oppressed across the globe. Your recent resolute rebuttal to the criminal aggression by Israel and the ongoing genocide unfolding in Gaza stands as an admirable example of courage and determination.

We also observe daily pro-Palestinian protests across the world. In these days, the movement of European and American students to support Palestine is gaining momentum, and several campuses are involved in the United States and Europe. This testifies to the new awareness of Western youth in the face of all these injustices in the world.

Today’s world need your enlightened wisdom and moral leadership more than ever before. Your tireless endeavors to foster mutual understanding, champion justice and solidarity are of paramount significance in addressing the complex challenges confronting us.

We are resolved to delve deeper into our understanding of Islam and to steadfastly repudiate the rhetoric of hatred and violence that sows discord and fosters ignorance. Our aspiration is to contribute to build a world where respect, tolerance, justice and peaceful coexistence are established as fundamental values.

Your commitment to forging bonds and nurturing mutual understanding across cultures, faiths, and peoples serves as an inspiration to us all. We offer our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering dedication, and we entreat the Divine to grant you longevity, that you may continue to champion this noble cause.

We are grateful to you for your sincere and inspiring letter, and we look forward to continuing this fruitful exchange in a spirit of dialogue and constructive collaboration.

With our sincere greetings,

Brussels, April 28, 2024

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The United States and its European allies have made extensive diplomatic efforts to ramp up pressure on Iran ahead of the resumption of the stalled Vienna talks.

But these efforts could well backfire against the West and prompt Iran into drastically changing its calculus in terms of continuing the Vienna talks.

Over the past few days, senior diplomats from the U.S. and Europe have been involved in extensive talks in the Persian Gulf region and elsewhere in a bid to ratchet up diplomatic pressure on Iran despite its declaration on setting a date for the resumption of the Vienna talks that are scheduled to begin on November 29.

On Wednesday, senior American and Arab officials convened a “Working Group” on Iran in Riyadh. The participants accused Iran of pursuing “a range of aggressive and dangerous” policies, called for Iran to “fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” and demanded an “urgent mutual return to full compliance with” a 2015 nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), between Iran and world powers.

A day later, U.S. Special Envoy for Iran Rob Malley held a joint meeting with political directors (PDs) of the E3 (France, Germany, UK), the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, its member states, Egypt, and Jordan in Riyadh.

Again, the participants used coercive language to browbeat Iran into “quickly reaching and implementing a negotiated solution” to the stalemate over the JCPOA.

Simultaneously, Malley sought to dangle the carrot of regional economic cooperation in a bid to cajole Iran into making more concessions in the Vienna talks. He said an Iranian return to compliance with the JCPOA would result in new economic opportunities and diplomatic ties in the region.

“Met with the E3 political directors and senior officials from Egypt, Jordan, and the GCC to discuss 2 paths open to Iran: continued nuclear escalation & crisis, or mutual return to the JCPOA, creating opportunities for regional economic & diplomatic ties. Time to choose is short,” he said on Twitter.

Even in offering the perceived carrot, Malley refused to expend from his own pocket. Instead, he relied on Persian Gulf petrodollars in alluring Iran into the JCPOA, a strategy that is unlikely to bear fruit given the fact that it’s coupled with harsh rhetoric against Iran’s regional policies.

It’s incompressible to many observers how Malley wants to revive the JCPOA with help from countries that opposed the JCPOA right from the start. But even if he succeeds in obtaining buy-in from Persian Gulf monarchies for his main job, this won’t exonerate the U.S. from blame. At the end of the day, it was the U.S. that reneged on the JCPOA and imposed sanctions on Iran.

But unconstructive rhetoric was not coming only from the U.S. The Europeans also did their part in terms of creating a façade of a united front against Iran.

Senior E3 officials participated in Riyadh’s meetings. Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary-General of the EU External Action Service, met with hawkish Emirati official Anwar Gargash, who is a diplomatic advisor to the president of the United Arab Emirates.

“Grateful to Dr. @AnwarGargash for an interesting conversation on regional issues and JCPOA perspectives ahead of the 7th round in Vienna. Appreciated well balanced UAE position on key international dossiers,” Mora tweeted.

Gargash, in turn, praised the meeting, tweeting, “A constructive & insightful exchange indeed with the representative of an important & respected friend of the UAE.”

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told Le Monde newspaper Paris wanted first to establish whether talks would resume where they ended in June, according to Reuters.

“If this discussion is a sham, then we will have to consider the JCPOA empty,” he said.

Also, French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anne-Claire Legendre called for a tougher message to Iran in the upcoming meeting of the IAEA board of governors in light of the Agency’s recent report on Iran.

Taken together, the American and European positions suggest a lack of Western will to learn a lesson from the circumstances leading to the U.S. withdrawal from the JCPOA and what happened afterward.

Iran has said that it no longer considers the signature of U.S. president as credible and, accordingly, it wants guarantees that Washington won’t renege on its commitments again.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Friday that Iran has one condition on the revival of the JCPOA: that the U.S. should effectively and verifiably remove its sanctions on Iran.

“The condition for the return of the United States to the JCPOA is the lifting of sanctions effectively, together and verifiably, and the signature of the president of the United States is not reliable,” he said in remarks to Iran’s state-run media.

But instead of offering Iran assurances that they won’t renege again, American and European officials keep holding anti-Iran meetings to intimidate it.

But this approach will most likely backfire as Iran is not going to bow to Western pressures. Iran has made it clear that it will not be stung twice from the same hole. As they say, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Addressing the “Dawn of Truth” conference in Tehran, held to mark the anniversary of Ayatollah Khamenei’s second letter to the Western youth in 2015, Zarif said parts of the letter point to the realities of the modern world and the post-West era.

Highlighting a part of the letter that asks how those born, grown up and educated in Western countries could behead civilians in Syria and Iraq, he said it is a testimony to a political fact, that is, momentous developments in international relations are not being shaped in or by the West anymore.

In a letter to youths of Europe and North America on January 21, 2015, Ayatollah Khamenei said, “One has to ask why people who are born in Europe and who have been intellectually and mentally nurtured in that environment are attracted to such (terrorist) groups.”

“Can we really believe that people with only one or two trips to war zones, suddenly become so extreme that they can riddle the bodies of their compatriots with bullets?” the Leader had said of terrorist attacks carried out by extremists returning from Syria and Iraq.

Elsewhere in his comments, the Iranian top diplomat highlighted the “diversification of sources of power” in the contemporary era.

The moral aspects of Iran’s power were brought to light by its leading role in the war against the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group, he added, saying such measures could greatly affect a state’s position in the international arena.

Zarif also noted that the West began to pursue the policy of fomenting Islamophobia and Iranophobia following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Imam Khamenei first wrote a letter to youths in Europe and North America on January 21, 2015, to elaborate on the reasons behind the West’s effort to spread Islamophobia.

Later on November 29, 2015, Ayatollah Khamenei sent the second letter following a series of terrorist attacks in France, elaborating on the real factors behind terrorism and asking the young people to “lay the foundation for an appropriate and honorable interaction with the Muslim world based on correct knowledge and with deep insight and by taking lessons from tragic experiences (of the past)”.

TEHRAN – The two letters Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei sent to the youth in Western countries in 2015 came at the right time, an Iranian cultural official stressed, saying they helped portray the true image of Islam to the world.

Ayatollah Khamenei’s letters to the Western youth were released at a time when the Western politicians were pushing for the flare-up of anti-Islamic moves and Islamophobia, Hamidreza Moqaddamfar, chairperson of the popular committee on propagation of Ayatollah Khamenei’s letters, said on Sunday.

He made the comments at the “Dawn of Truth” conference in Tehran, held to mark the anniversary of Ayatollah Khamenei’s second letter to the Western youth in 2015.

“Those two letters created an atmosphere to draw a line between true Islam and terrorism, and also to introduce genuine Islam,” Moqaddamfar noted, as he gave a report on the popular and voluntary moves by people inside and outside Iran to let the younger generation know about the letters.

Citing a meeting with Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement Seyed Hassan Nasrallah, Moqaddamfar said the top Lebanese figure has also hailed the timely release of those letters by Ayatollah Khamenei.

He further touched on a letter that late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini (AS) had sent to General Secretary of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev in January 1989 to warn against the fall of Communism, regretting the “historic failure” in promulgating that letter when the ground was prepared for promoting Islam.

Moqaddamfar then urged cautious efforts to avoid the same shortcomings in regard with Ayatollah Khamenei’s letters to the Western youth.

Imam Khamenei first wrote a letter to youths of Europe and North America on January 21, 2015, to elaborate on the reasons behind the West’s effort to spread Islamophobia.

“Afghan security forces withdraw from their positions in Shibkoh district after Taliban militants attack,” he told Afghan Voice Agency (AVA).

According to the reports, Taliban militants have seized the police command headquarters and the governorate building in the region.

Meanwhile, Taliban elements set fire to security forces’ military vehicles and took supplies of their arms, Nunn Taki Asia news website quoted the local sources.

Qari Mohammad Yousef Ahmadi, Taliban spokesmen confirmed that Shibkoh has fallen in to hands of Taliban.

Meantime, Iqbal Baher Farah police spokesman denied withdrawal of security forces in Shibkoh region.

The Farah governor spokesman made no comment on the issue.

Deployment of 200 foreign soldiers in Farah province has increased tensions in the region.

War in Afghanistan has not been limited to the western province of Farah and dozens of people and militants were killed and injured in clashed between Taliban and Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL) in the eastern province of Nangarhar.

Also, as a result of Daesh attack to Khogyani district on Monday evening, six civilians, four Taliban members and eight Daesh fighters have already been killed, Nangarhar provincial council declared.

The war game code-named “Heidar-e-Karrar” involves various units of the Iranian Army, including the Rapid Reaction Unit, the Artillery Unit, and the Drone Unit.

The third stage of the military drills, during which the army plans to showcase its mobility and offensive power, are underway near the Parviz Khan border in western Iran.

Some forces of the Iraqi army are also present in the area and participate in the war game alongside with the Iranian troops.

Last week, Iran’s Air Defense intensified activities along the country’s western borders, deploying new missile equipment there.

The dispatch of missiles coincided with the military drills that the Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) have staged along the country’s western border areas.

The Army’s Heidar-e-Karrar war game had kicked off along Iran’s western border areas on last Sunday.

The IRGC has also staged another drill in the western provinces. Commanders say the Muharram war game signals the message of peace and security to the friends and reminds the enemies that the country’s borders will be powerfully protected against hostile moves.

TEHRAN – US columnist Stephen Lendman says that “Suu Kyi is a fraud and a US- Western darling.”

“She reminds me in some ways of Mother Theresa, more myth than ‘saint of the gutters’”, Lendman tells the Mehr News.

Following is the text of the interview:

Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar are in a disastrous situation. Why aren’t international organizations and institutions attentive to their sufferings?

What’s going on is shocking and disturbing, largely ignored in Washington and other Western capitals – what I call slow-motion genocide against the Rohingyas, going on for years, accelerated in recent weeks.

Aung San Suu Kyi, the Nobel Peace winner, who was herself the victim of the Myanmar Army and had been tortured for many years, is silent about the savagery against the Rohingya and even supports the military action. What is your assessment of this approach?

Suu Kyi is a fraud, a US- Western darling. She reminds me in some ways of Mother Theresa, more myth than “saint of the gutters.”
Instead of helping the poor and needy as falsely claimed, she fostered a cult of suffering, her missionaries of charity a disgrace – deplorable conditions substituting for noble work.

Her hospitals were human warehouses. She ignored hunger, malnutrition and diseases. Mistreatment substituted while she jet-setted in luxury, hobnobbing with the world’s rich, famous and infamous.

She’s more sinner than saint. The same goes for Suu Kyi, guilty of crimes against the Rohingyas.

Why aren’t the UN and the UNHCR doing their responsibility in reducing the agonies of the Muslim minority in Myanmar?

The UN is an appendage of US imperial policy, supporting what demands condemnation. What has the current and former secretaries-general done for Palestinians and other beleaguered people – nothing besides meaningless rhetoric.

If the situation that Rohingya Muslims are facing were imposed on the citizens of a Western country, all of the international organizations and institutions would have taken measures to deal with it. Why do these organizations practice dual standards?

Western double standards are notorious and outrageous. Look how abusively Iran is treated. For aiding Syria combat US-supported terrorism, it’s called the world’s greatest terrorist threat – what applies to Washington and Israel most of all.

Earlier claims about Iran having a military nuclear component were fabricated, Trump repeating the phony notion that it wants one.
In contrast, nuclear armed and dangerous Israel’s regional threat is ignored.

Western countries and their rogue allies are indifferent to human suffering, uncaring about the Rohingyas, Palestinians and other severely abused people – their policies contributing to their misery.

Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago. His new book as editor and contributor is titled “Flashpoint in Ukraine: US Drive for Hegemony Risks WW III.” He can be reached at lendmanstephen@sbcglobal.net.
