TEHRAN (Iran News) – The army forces of Syria discovered major stocks of US-made weapons while conducting clean-up operations in southern regions of the Arab country.

Heavy machine guns, assault rifles, night-vision goggles, binoculars, anti-tank missiles, rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), anti-tank landmines, and communication devices, as well as hundreds of kilograms of hashish, were seized in the area, SANA reported.

It added that US-built TOW anti-tank missiles were also among the seized arms.

Last month, a significant amount of western-made weapons were seized in the country’s southwestern provinces of Dara’a, Suwayda and Quneitra during mop-up operations.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The Syrian government says the Israeli regime and its Western and regional allies are aiding the Takfiri terrorist groups that are wreaking havoc in the country.

Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Hussam Eddin Ala called for taking practical steps and immediate measures to make the Middle East a zone free from nuclear weapon and other weapons of mass destruction.

“We call for the full implementation of the 1995 Middle East Resolution, as it is an integral part of the deal which provided extension of Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) in 1995,” Ala said in a statement delivered at the second session of the Preparatory Committee for the 2020 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT)

He added that Syria reiterates its commitment to the outcomes of 1995, 2000 and 2010 NPT Review Conferences on the Middle East Nuclear Disarmament and other weapons of mass destruction, and Syria calls on all the state parties to respect their commitment to make the Middle East free from nuclear weapons.

“Syria considers that the basic criteria to make the 2020 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) a success depends on the serious implementation of the content of the Middle East Resolution issued by the 1995 Review and Extension Conference, and the full commitment of the parties concerned in making the Middle East an area free from WMD and Nuclear weapons.

He stressed that Israel’s continued refusal to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and other agreements calling for the elimination of weapons of mass destruction seriously poses a threat to the security of the region and its people.

“Israel’s refusal to subject its nuclear facilities to the comprehensive safeguards system of the International Atomic Energy Agency is also a real threat to the internationally-adopted non-proliferation system,” Ala added.

Ala concluded by saying that Syria rejects the US and its allies’ continued efforts to involve the allegations of using chemical weapons in Syria in a bid to escape from their contracting obligations under the NPT to protect Israel.

Iranian president has stressed once again that Iran will never negotiate over its “defensive weapons” with anyone, declaring that it is none of anyone’s business to decide for Iran’s defensive power.

Hassan Rouhani made the remarks in Sabzevar in northeastern Razavi Khorasan Province on Sunday.

Rouhani said that his government entered serious negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program in 2013 to show the world that Iranians are “a peaceful nation” and prove that sanctioning Iran for its nuclear activities was wrong, calling the Iranian diplomats soldiers who defended their homeland.

He said that at the start of his first term sanctions on Iran’s petrochemical, auto industry and precious stones were gradually lifted at the end of 2013, through the efforts of Iranian diplomats.

Rouhani pointed out that after signing the JCPOA in 2015, Iran’s oil sales doubled, banking transactions were resumed though not fully, and Iran gradually rejoined to the world economy as the trade with the world returned to normal.

The Iranian president criticized the US president Donald Trump for his claims that Iran fooled the United States when it signed the “the worst deal ever” with it, calling Trump’s words “nonsense and illogical.”

“That guy’s words are nonsense…we did not fool anyone…we reached an agreement that has been endorsed by the United Nations,” Rouhani said.

He went on to praise his administration’ performance during the four and half years saying that the world is praising Iran for its action [in reaching an agreement with the world on its nuclear program.]

The Iranian president stressed that his government’s achievements were obtained with the support of the Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, Iranian people as well as Iran’s armed forces.

The president said “today, Americans may have some plans to deal with the JCPOA,” adding “they may either pull out of it or hurt it, or they may go a completely different way from that of Europe and the rest of the world.”

He emphasized that if US withdraws from the pact, it will regret it.

The Iranian president went on to stress that the United States cannot succeed against the Iranian nations as it has shown during the past 40 years.

Rouhani said that he has ordered different executive bodies to be ready for taking necessary measure [if US leaves the deal], adding that he had met with the official of Iran’s atomic agency few days ago to order them be ready for the future.

He touched upon the economic section’s readiness to tackle the US plots in the currency market saying “the economic sector has received the necessary orders.”

He went on to assure that the businessmen and manufactures that the government has stored enough foreign currencies to meet their demands.

The Iranian president predicted that Iran’s oil and non-oil income this year will exceed $ 100 billion, while the whole spending will not be more than $ 70 billion, so the government would not have any problem in terms of foreign currency.

Later in his remarks, Rouhani touched upon the issue of unity among all political factions in Iran, telling Trump that not to rely on division in Iran’s political structure.

President Rouhani stated “I would like to clearly say to the whole world, Europe, the United States, the West, the East that Iran will negotiate over its defensive weapons. We will build any weapons and missile we need and store them. we will not negotiate over our defensive power with anyone.”

He went on to reiterate that Iran will abide by its commitments and seeks engagement with the world.

“We are negotiating with Turkey and Russia about Syria. We are negotiating with different countries on Yemen, but I would like to say to the world that we will fight terrorism in every part of the region.”

“We do not allow you to create another ISIL in this area to fight the nations of the region, we want peace and stability in the region. We never want war and conflicts. Meanwhile, we strongly defend our interests and we will stand up against any conspiracy.”

Damascus said the accusations leveled by militant-affiliated media against the Syrian government regarding the use of chemical weapons in the city of Douma in Eastern Ghouta are meant to block the army’s advance against foreign-backed militants.

Terrorists are repeating the allegations of using chemical weapons in order to accuse the Syrian Arab army, in a blatant attempt to hinder the Army’s advance, the source said in a statement on Saturday evening, SANA reported.

They claimed that the army had used chemical weapons in the city of Douma during its military operations in response to attacks carried out by the foreign-backed militants on several Damascus neighborhoods and its surroundings.

The Syrian troops are determined to continue their anti-terror fight and end terrorism in every square inch of the Syrian territory, according to the statement.

“The chemical fabrications, which did not serve the terrorists and their sponsors in Aleppo and Eastern Ghouta, will not serve them today either, as the Syrian state is determined to end terrorism in every square inch of Syrian territory,” it said.

The accusations were made several hours after Jaish al-Islam terrorists targeted the city’s al-Mazzeh area with some seven rockets.

Syrian forces resumed airstrikes on militant positions in Douma on Friday after the last remaining militants there violated an evacuation deal and shelled civilian areas near Damascus.

The Syrian government surrendered its stockpiles of chemical weapons in 2014 to a joint mission led by the UN and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which oversaw the destruction of the weaponry.

Western governments and their allies, however, have never stopped pointing the finger at Damascus whenever an apparent chemical attack has taken place.

TEHRAN – His people are known for seductiveness, but it would be naive to think it only means in love. In what would naturally pass as a friendly visit to Tehran, which would include opening a branch of The Louvre, the French foreign minister has some hard talk to deliver.

A day before he was to fly to Iran, Jean-Yves Le Drian said he believed Iran needs to address Europe’s demands over its ballistic missile program or risk new sanctions.

“There are ballistic programs of missiles that can reach several thousand kilometers which are not compatible with UN Security Council resolutions and exceed the sole need of defending Iran’s borders,” Le Drian told the Journal du Dimanche newspaper.

“If not tackled head on, this country risks new sanctions,” he threatened.

Le Drian’s country was the hardest to deal with during the tough, years-long nuclear negotiations that led to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in mid-2015. The final weeks of the agreement were spent trying to convince Paris about the content of the agreement. France, one among five other negotiating countries (the U.S., UK, Germany, Russia, and China) had played along silently up to that time, but now it was time to play its role and mount new pressure on Tehran.

Paris was one of the quickest countries after the implementation of the nuclear deal to raise claim of concern over Iran’s ballistic missiles, calling for further restriction on Iran.

Recently France, the UK, and Germany have been reaching to Tehran to what they like to see as helping the country skip new U.S. sanctions by giving in to their demands about its missile program, i.e. choosing between sanctions or a ban on missiles.

U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with the JCPOA, urging Europe to put restrictions on Iran’s missile program or have Tehran cast out of reach under fresh U.S. sanctions.

Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri, the deputy chief of the Iranian Armed Forces, on Saturday, expecting Le Drian’s visit, said the Islamic Republic will not negotiate on its ballistic missiles until the United States and Europe give up their nuclear weapons and long-range missiles.

General Jazayeri denounced Washington’s anti-Iran remarks, saying the Americans’ rhetoric about restricting Iran’s missile power is only a “wishful thinking”.

“The precondition for negotiating Iran’s missiles is the destruction of the nuclear weapons and long-range missiles of America and Europe,” the top general said.

He said the U.S. is in a weak position in the face of Iran’s missile capability, emphasizing that such a power could not have been achieved through talks.

Iran has refused calls for negotiations over its missile program, insisting that its missile program is only for defensive purposes.

But it is not only the Trump administration and European powers which are arranging things for restricting Iran’s missile program. Officials of the Obama administration who struck the JCPOA with Iran, which promised a brighter day for Iran, are also tacitly telling Tehran to agree to missile bounds.

On Saturday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed a report that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry had met privately last month on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

On a piece published on Friday, the New Yorker had said “Kerry quietly urged the Iranians not to abandon the deal or violate its terms, whatever the Trump Administration does.”

Zarif and Kerry were leaders of the negotiating teams of Iran and the U.S. respectively.

While Europe takes pride in having concluded the nuclear deal with Iran and hopefully pursuing a fresh deal, Tehran is already questioning the effectiveness of such deals. Iranian officials have said while the JCPOA has already proven of little effect as other parties have failed to keep up in performing their commitments and ensuring Iran enjoys its full benefits, it would not make sense to think of any new agreements.

On February 22, Iran gave an ultimatum that it will withdraw from the nuclear deal if it does not benefit economically from it and if major banks, companies and business entities continue to refuse to do business with Iran due to negative statements by the U.S. president.

“We cannot remain in a deal that has no benefits for us,” Deputy Foreign Minister for Political and Legal Affairs Abbas Araghchi told Chatham House in London.

Araghchi, who was one of the main JCPOA negotiators, said Trump is “violating the letter and the spirit” of the deal by creating a “destructive atmosphere”.

“These statements are categorically rejected by us and we can’t work with the US on this basis,” Ryabkov was quoted by Sputnik Agency as saying in a response to the US statements on incidents of using chemical weapons in Syria.

He added that “It is enough to read the draft resolution submitted to the Security Council by our permanent representative yesterday to make sure that Russia specifically is the one who calls for a comprehensive and integrated investigation into all incidents of using chemical weapons in Syria and everywhere regardless of who used such weapons.”

The Russian diplomat said that the US exploits the Syrian issue and the false accusations to continue the policy of suppressing Russia, saying “yesterday, there were statements by US senior officials on the same issue, and all of them can be explained with the same idea which is that the US considers that it is the only right one and there couldn’t be any other view on what is taking place in Syria and on the level of the world.”

TEHRAN, – Lethal weapon supplies to Ukraine may motivate ‘loose cannons’ to unleash additional bloodshed in Donbass, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.

“Perhaps, this [lethal weapon supplies] will once again motivate loose cannons among those nationalists who are solely seeking to switch over to a use-of-force method to settle the situation in Donbass, an absolutely dead-end technique, which would unleash bloodshed again,” Peskov said.

Moscow’s stance on such possible deliveries has not changed, the Kremlin spokesman said.

The Kremlin press secretary added that official rebuttals in media reports about preparations for such weapon deliveries had started to come from Washington.
“So far, no decisions have been made [in the United States] on this score,” he said.

The Washington Post said earlier citing its sources in the US government that the Department of State had approved a commercial license for exports to Ukraine of Barrett M107A1 sniper systems, munitions and spare parts for them to the tune of $41.5 million.

“We have crossed the Rubicon, this are lethal weapons and I predict more will be coming,” the newspaper cited a senior congressional official.

The US Department of State has confirmed the licensing commercial export of US-manufactured lethal weapons to Ukraine.

“The Department of State has licensed the commercial export of a limited number of small arms and light weapons to Ukraine from US manufacturers,” a State Department official told TASS on Wednesday.

According to the official, Washington has “never had any policy that restricts such commercial sales.” “The United States reviews requests for sales and export license applications on a case by case basis and this one was no different,” he said.

TEHRAN– Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said Syria would have been disintegrated had it not been for mobilized popular forces’ participation in the Arab country’s fight against terrorist groups.

“If it had not been for mobilized popular forces’ in Syria, it would have surely been partitioned”, General Jafari told reporters in Tehran on Thursday.

He added that the eradication of the self-proclaimed caliphate of Daesh (ISIL) in Syria and Iraq was also materialized thanks to the presence of popular forces across the region.

“Daesh wanted to form a government in Syria and Iraq to fight the Islamic Revolution and axis of resistance in the name of Islam,” the Iranian commander said, adding, however, that this plot was thwarted with the help of the popular forces.

General Jafari further warned that Daesh is still a threat to the region, calling on Muslim countries to remain vigilant.

On November 19, the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group was flushed out of its last stronghold in Syria’s Al-Bukamal. The city’s liberation marked an end to the group’s self-proclaimed caliphate it had declared in 2014.

In a message to Ayatollah Khamenei on Tuesday, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Quds Force Major General Soleimani declared that the notorious group’s rule has come to an end with the accomplishment of a mission to liberate Syria’s eastern city of Al-Bukamal, near the Iraqi border.

Speaking on behalf of all commanders and forces fighting against terrorism, thousands of Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian, Lebanese, Afghan, and Pakistani martyrs and those handicapped in defending the life and dignity of Muslims and their sanctities, the top general congratulated Ayatollah Khamenei, the Iranian nation, the people of Iraq and Syria, and all Muslims on the fall of Daesh.

Daesh militants made swift advances in northern and western Iraq over the summer of 2014, after capturing large areas of Syria.

But the timely support by Iran helped Syria and Iraq fight off Daesh. In addition, formation of military units by volunteers in Iraq, known as Hashd al-Shaabi or Popular Mobilization Units, blunted the edge of Daesh offensive and later made the terror group withdraw from the territories it had occupied.

The man was initially stopped by law enforcement for allegedly urinating in public.

Secret Service Uniform Division officers approached the man outside an art gallery in the area of 17th street and Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House, according to law enforcement sources and arrest records, CNN reported.

The suspect told Secret Service officers and agents that he was going to the White House to speak with National Security Agency Director Admiral Mike Rogers and Defense Secretary James Mattis “for advice on missing paychecks and how to get the chip out of my head,” according to the incident report obtained by CNN.

The man was discovered driving a 2009 Silver Nissan with Tennessee Fraternal Order of Police license plates. After being questioned by law enforcement and admitting to having multiple weapons, according to the report, he consented to a search of his vehicle. The search turned up nine guns, three knives, brass knuckles, suppressors, and various types of ammunition. The firearms included multiple handguns as well as AR- and AK-style rifles.

The suspect was taken to a DC facility “for mental observation” and later transported to a DC police station, where he was charged with multiple weapons violations, according to the report.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the man was previously known by law enforcement.
