Washington approves over $6.5 billion military sales to Tel Aviv

TEHRAN (Iran News) Speaking after visiting the mausoleum of the Founder of the Islamic Revolution alongside members of the Cabinet on the eve of the Ten-Day Dawn commemorating the 47th anniversary of the Revolution, Pezeshkian said the nation has endured difficult weeks due to behavioral and governance failures, adding that officials themselves are “both part of the problem and the solution.”

He said many crises could have been avoided had officials aligned their conduct with the Imam’s recommendations and recognized the people as the pillars of society. “What should never have happened did happen,” he said, “because we failed to see the people.”

Referring to Imam Ali’s (AS) guidance to Malik al-Ashtar in Nahj al-Balagha, the President emphasized that rulers must prioritize justice, truth, and public satisfaction. “When the general public is dissatisfied, the approval of a small elite is meaningless,” he said, adding that elite groups often place the greatest burden on rulers while offering the least support in times of crisis.

Pezeshkian stressed that governance must be centered on service to the people, not authority over them. “People judge us by our behavior and our justice, not by slogans or speeches,” he said. “We have no right to ignore the rights of even a single human being.”

The President underlined the need for officials to change their behavior toward citizens, calling the people the true backbone of the nation. “If we wish to follow the path shown by Imam Ali and the late Imam regarding justice and people’s rights, we must stand with the people and treat them with compassion,” he said.

He added that anyone who seeks leadership must first reform themselves before instructing others. “Self-discipline must be demonstrated through action, not words,” he noted.

Pezeshkian said no society governed by justice can be brought to its knees. “We cannot claim adherence to religious values while acting unjustly,” he said. “If we act fairly, people will accept it, and no power can destabilize a nation built on justice and truth.”

He emphasized that justice must be applied without discrimination based on ethnicity, gender, language, race, or belief, warning that hostility toward any group must not lead to unjust behavior.

“Justice is not a matter of dispute,” he said. “It is established through clear standards. People see our actions, not our claims.”

Referring to remarks by Seyed Hassan Khomeini, Pezeshkian said the late Imam’s path was rooted in the people, not in violence or bloodshed. “Those who initiated armed struggle were not accepted by the Imam,” he said.

He added that the martyrs of the Revolution did not sacrifice their lives so that officials could dominate or mistreat the people. “They gave their lives so that justice and service to the people would prevail.”

Addressing recent unrest, the President said foreign actors, including the United States, Israel, and some European countries, sought to incite division and exploit domestic problems. He acknowledged that some innocent citizens were drawn into the unrest.

However, he distinguished between peaceful protest and violent actions. “In ordinary social protests, people do not take up arms, kill security forces, or burn ambulances and markets,” he said.

“We are duty-bound to hear the voices and concerns of protesters and to resolve their issues,” Pezeshkian stressed, adding that the government is prepared to do so. At the same time, he said enemies have attempted to exploit protests to fracture society.

Pezeshkian said the presence of the country’s leadership has neutralized hostile plots and will continue to do so, but emphasized that this does not absolve officials from reforming their behavior.

In closing, he said unity around justice and truth is essential, warning that efforts to establish fairness will face resistance from those who have benefited from corruption, rent-seeking, and privilege. “These groups will oppose reform,” he said, “but justice must prevail.”

Khartoum and Washington: Worlds Apart

TEHRAN (Iran News) According to media reports, the goal of this ceasefire is to create space for sending humanitarian aid and to begin sustainable peace negotiations based on a roadmap prepared by the Quadrilateral Committee. Trump personally committed to intervening in this crisis after meeting with the Saudi Crown Prince and described it as “the most violent place on Earth.”

Alongside these diplomatic efforts, the Trump administration expanded travel restrictions to the United States in December 2025. This national security decision is not directly related to the peace objectives in Sudan. According to this order, Sudan remains on the list of countries whose citizens face complete entry restrictions to the U.S.

South Sudan has been added to the list of countries under “full restrictions.” The stated reasons include a high rate of visa violations (e.g., 26.09% for student visas) and the government’s lack of cooperation in repatriating deportable citizens from the U.S.

These restrictions are generally imposed due to security concerns about the ability to “screen” travelers from countries with low stability or unreliable identification documents. To understand the necessity of these peace efforts, it is useful to look at the depth of the disaster:

This civil war has been ongoing since April 2023 between the Sudanese army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (“Hemedti”). International organizations consider Sudan the largest displacement and humanitarian crisis in the world.

Millions of people have been displaced, and the hunger crisis is spreading catastrophically. Despite these efforts, experts see major obstacles to sustainable peace. Reports indicate Israeli regime support for the RSF, led by the UAE, and support for the Sudanese army by Egypt and Turkey. The success of the U.S. plan may require pressure on the UAE to stop its support, which is extremely complex behind the scenes due to political reasons and the demands of the Israeli regime.

Historical patterns of Sudanese leaders show that they often seek a ceasefire after defeat and think about continuing the war to consolidate their vision in society after victory. According to reports of the dire conditions of the people, even if a ceasefire is established, there is a serious lack of funding to save lives and stabilize the situation.

Overall, it seems that the Trump administration, by leveraging its diplomatic influence and cooperating with Arab allies, is apparently seeking to play an effective role in stopping the war in Sudan, accessing potential economic resources, and preventing Sudan from joining the “Axis of Resistance.” However, the success of these efforts depends on many complex internal and regional factors.

Iran to monitor implications of Netanyahu’s Washington trip, says FM spokesman

TEHRAN (Iran News) Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei has said that Iran will closely monitor the effects of Benjamin Netanyahu’s trip to Washington on regional developments.

Netanyahu’s trip had been planned by the two sides, and Iran will focus on the issues of its concern, Baghaei said during a weekly press conference on Monday.

“We will carefully monitor these implications on developments in the region and Palestine,” he added.

FM’s trip to Kabul was a natural initiative

Baghaei also highlighted the historical, cultural, and religious commonalities between Iran and Afghanistan, noting that the two sides had discussed immigration, water rights, and security. He emphasized that Iran has paved the ground for repatriating illegal immigrants to their country.

“The international community’s commitment in this regard is well-defined, and Iran wants these bodies to act within this framework,” he reiterated.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani says that the U.S., despite its claims of defending human rights, will not shy away from committing any kind of crime to achieve its illegitimate goals.

Kanaani made the remarks at his weekly press conference speaking about the anniversary of the U.S. attack on the Iranian Air Airbus in 1988 which lead to the killing of dozens of passengers.

Referring to the crimes that the U.S. regime committed against the Iranian nation, the senior diplomat stressed that the people of Iran will never forget the US support for the Saddam regime, the illegal cruel sanctions, and other US felonies.

On July 3, 1988, the USS Vincennes fired missiles at an Iran Air Airbus A300B2 which was flying over the Strait of Hormuz from the port city of Bandar Abbas to Dubai, carrying 274 passengers and 16 crew members.

Following the attack, the plane disintegrated and crashed into the Persian Gulf waters, killing all 290 onboard, among them 66 children.

U.S. officials claimed that the USS Vincennes had mistaken Iran Air Flight 655 for a warplane. This is while the warship was equipped with highly sophisticated radar systems and electronic battle gear at the time of the attack.

Answering a question regarding the normalization of relations between Tehran and Cairo, Kanaani cited that the Islamic Republic of Iran will welcome any positive developments in this regard.

Tehran will respond to any positive measures taken by the Egyptian government and authorities regarding the ties with Iran, he emphasized.

“Expanding relations with neighboring and Islamic countries in the region is the priority for the [Iranian] government’s foreign policy, and in this regard, we welcome any development and positive approach of neighboring and Islamic governments,” the foreign ministry spokesman continued.

Iran’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has a mutual benefit for both Iran and the SCO and its members, Kanaani stressed.

He went on to say that this positive development can increase the added value associated with the Shanghai Organization as an important regional organization, adding that Iran’s membership will be in line with the interests of all member countries and strengthen the process of regionalism.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday that Iran will be formally approved as a member of the regional Shanghai Cooperation Organization with China, Russia and Central Asian countries.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the senior Iranian diplomat said that the country’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian will participate in the upcoming Non-Aligned Summit in Baku at the invitation of his Azeri counterpart.

The summit is of high importance for Tehran and FM Amir-Abdollahian will attend it at the head of a high-ranking delegation, Kanaani said.

Amirabdollahian will hold a bilateral meeting with his Azeri counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov in Baku, according to him.

The Non-Aligned Movement is an international organization that was formed during the Cold War as a response to the major powers, especially in the newly independent and developing countries.

The Islamic Republic of Iran officially joined this movement on 8 June 1979 after announcing its withdrawal from the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO).

He also said that the atmosphere of relations between Tehran and Baku is positive following the diplomatic measures that were taken.

Referring to the ongoing aggression of the Israeli regime against the Palestinians, Kanaani strongly condemned the Zionists’ attacks and stressed Iran’s support for the Palestinians regarding their legitimate right to defend themselves.

The senior Iranian diplomat called on the international community to seriously fulfill their responsibility and take effective measures against the crimes of the Israeli regime.

“Crime is institutionalized in the nature of the Zionist regime. The latest crime in Jenin showed once again that peace and compromise cannot deter the regime’s war machine and that this regime is neither trustworthy nor seeking peace,” he said.

The spokesman also emphasized that the Palestinian nation has not committed any crime except defending its rights in the face of the occupying regime, predicting that the Palestinians will once again defeat the Zionist forces.

“The Palestinian nation’s defense of its right and resistance against the Zionists’ aggression will not reduce the responsibility of international bodies, including the United Nations and the Security Council, in this respect,” Kanaani added.

Kanaani said that Tehran’s efforts to pursue and prosecute anti-Iran terrorists are ongoing, slamming certain Western countries for supporting them, especially those affiliated with the Mujahedin-e-Khalq terrorist organization (MKO).

Iran has been pursuing terrorists, both politically and legally, in different ways, he added.

“We did not spare any effort to prosecute those who committed terrorist crimes against the Iranian nation,” he noted.

Kanaani slammed certain countries that claim to be advocates of human rights but instrumentally use terrorist groups, particularly the MKO, and host its meetings.

Speaking about the negotiations on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal and lifting anti-Iran sanctions, the senior Iranian diplomat cited that Iran continues to follow the path of negotiations and the continuation of consultations with the aim of securing the interests of the Iranian nation.

Kanaani added that the Western side has recently been slightly realistic and has shown constructive policies, but this is not enough for Iran.

Iran negotiates to achieve a final result from the negotiation table, he continued, adding that just as Tehran is ready to resume and conclude the negotiations in compliance with its red lines.

Tehran will continue to follow its balanced foreign policy in developing relations with different countries regardless of the status of the negotiations, Kanaani said.

Referring to the illegal sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran, he noted that Iran has never surrendered to U.S. sanctions and it never will.

“U.S. sanctions are a clear example of a crime against humanity. Iran will take measures to remove and neutralize the sanctions,” he concluded.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iranian Foreign Ministry on Friday denounced a recently-introduced Congressional resolution that backs the terrorist Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO), saying the move demonstrates “deep bonds” between Washington and terrorism.

“Support of 165 US lawmakers for MKO proves deep bonds between #US and #terrorism,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani wrote on his Twitter page.

“No strange!” he noted, adding, “The regime that founded #Daesh & used it as tool, not ashamed of supporting and instrumental using of murderers of 17k Iranians.”

The bipartisan resolution was introduced to the House by Congressman Tom McClintock on February 7 and has 164 other cosponsors. It has been referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Backing unrest in Iran, the resolution expresses support for what it calls the “Iranian people’s desire for a democratic, secular, and nonnuclear Republic of Iran.” It also levels baseless accusations against Iran for what it describes as “state-sponsored terrorism” and violation of human rights.

Maryam Rajavi, the leader of the notorious organization, also addressed a press briefing planned for the introduction of the resolution on February 8, lauding the representatives’ efforts.

American use of terrorism against Iran

Also, the Iranian foreign minister on Saturday slammed the House resolution, describing it as an indication of Washington’s insatiable appetite for employing terrorism for the purpose of “destroying” Iran.

“The US Congress’ worthless resolution in support of Monafeghin (MKO) terror cult demonstrates, just once more, their insatiable appetite for instrumentalizing terrorism and DAESH modeled scenarios -that wrecked Syria and Iraq- for destroying Iran,” Hossein Amir Abdollahian tweeted.

More than 17,000 Iranians, many of them civilians, have been killed at the hands of the MKO in different acts of terrorism including bombings in public places, and targeted killings.

The MKO, that was on the U.S. terrorist list until 2012, fled Iran in 1986 for Iraq and was given a camp by former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

They fought on the side of Saddam during the Iraq’s war on Iran (1980-88). They were also involved in the bloody repression of Shiite Muslims in southern Iraq in 1991 and the massacre of Iraqi Kurds in the north.

This is not the first anti-Iran resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives. Back on January 25, American lawmakers adopted a resolution praising rioters and calling for more sanctions against Iranian officials.

It also encouraged the administration of President Joe Biden “to immediately impose, under existing authorities, additional human rights sanctions on officials and entities responsible for the repression of the current protests.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) –The spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry has said that Tehran is ready to implement the agreement on the exchange of prisoners with Washington and it is now “up to the U.S. administration” to decide whether or not it wants to keep its end of the deal.

“We have already voiced our readiness to exchange inmates with the U.S., and we are still ready to do so. Negotiations have been conducted in different ways over the matter, and parties have reached the necessary agreements. It is now up to the U.S. administration to decide whether it wants to implement this agreement or not. We are prepared to enforce it,” Nasser Kan’ani told ISNA in an interview published on Sunday.

The agreement was reached in Vienna on the sidelines of negotiations concerning the Iran deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with world powers.

Kanaani also underlined that the Islamic Republic will never sacrifice its own political independence for the sake of certain diplomatic relations, roundly dismissing allegations that Russia is obstructing the Vienna talks on the JCPOA revival and removal of sanctions against Tehran.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will not sacrifice its political independence for the sake of [diplomatic] relations with any other countries. The same approach is also being exercised throughout the sanctions removal talks. Russia is a signatory to the JCPOA, and has naturally participated in the negotiation process and made comments,” he said.

Kanaani also rejected claims that Russia has asked Iran to delay the agreement until a later time in winter. The senior Iranian diplomat went on to dismiss allegations that Russia is obstructing the talks in the Austrian capital, stressing that it is the US side that must take on its responsibility, and contribute to the conclusion of the accord.

“The fact that [the United States of] America occasionally tends to level allegations against the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia is simply a blame game,” Kanaani said.

The spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry also stressed that Russia and China have facilitated and are assisting the advancement of Vienna talks, emphasizing that the official positions of Moscow and Beijing are completely in support of JCPOA revival negotiations and Tehran’s stance.

“The U.S. government is a party that has left the negotiations, and is now inventing excuses and obstructing the conclusion of the final agreement. It is worth mentioning that the political independence of the Islamic Republic of Iran is so important that it will not be influenced by the political view of any other country,” Kanaani said.

The top Iranian diplomat also called on Saudi Arabia to adopt serious measures on humanitarian grounds and release Iranian national Khalil Dardmand, who was arrested by Saudi forces in the holy city of Mecca in July.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf on Tuesday commented on the imminent visit of U.S. President Joe Biden to Israel and Saudi Arabia, saying the United States is pursuing policies and agendas set out by Israel.

“Evidence available to us shows that this trip has been fully arranged by the Zionists (Israelis) and that the U.S. president is implementing agendas and projects that the Zionist regime, which is the biggest enemy of the region’s nations, has outlined and dictated in full detail. Turning into an executive of Israeli policies in the region will be a historic and strategic mistake on the part of the U.S. president, one which will be detrimental to the Biden administration before anyone else,” Qalibaf was quoted as saying by Iran’s state news agency IRNA.

Speaking at an open session of Parliament, the speaker accused the U.S. of making the same mistake it made in Ukraine which is the expansion of NATO toward the East.

He added, “Indiscretion in expanding NATO to the East and ignoring potent geopolitical warnings in that regard led to the start of the Ukraine war. Now the same indiscretion is taking place in the sensitive region of the Middle East [West Asia] and the Persian Gulf.”

Qalibaf then strongly criticized Israel, saying, “Israel is an illegitimate and destabilizing entity which is unable to even manage its internal political environment. Israel is standing at the bottom of a well and urges America and other countries into falling into that well. The true nature of the Abraham accords is nothing other than that.”

He added, “I do not have much hope that the U.S. administration will be able to discern the right decision at the current stage just as it didn’t show even a minimum of rationality in the nuclear talks.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran has proposed that the U.S. Congress makes a “political statement” of its commitment to a nuclear accord with Tehran as talks in Vienna to revive the deal reach a critical juncture.

In an exclusive interview with the Financial Times, Hossein Amirabdollahian, foreign minister, said Washington had failed to address Iran’s demand for guarantees that no party is able to abandon the deal, as the US did under former president Donald Trump in 2018. Tehran also wants all sanctions imposed by Trump to be lifted.

“As a matter of principle, public opinion in Iran cannot accept as a guarantee the words of a head of state, let alone the United States, due to the withdrawal of Americans from the JCPOA,” Amirabdollahian said, using the acronym for the accord, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Experts say it is virtually impossible for the Biden administration to provide the legal assurances Tehran demands. But Amirabdollahian said he had told Iran’s negotiators to propose to Western parties that “at least their parliaments or parliament speakers, including the U.S. Congress, can declare in the form of a political statement their commitment to the agreement and return to the JCPOA implementation”.

President Joe Biden wants to revive the 2015 deal, under which Iran agreed to curb its nuclear activity in return for the easing of sanctions. But while indirect talks between Washington and Tehran are taking place in Vienna, US and European officials have repeatedly warned that — given the nuclear gains Iran has made since 2019 — time is running out to save the accord.

Biden said the U.S. would return to the deal if Iran agreed to reverse the aggressive advances it had made to its nuclear program over the past three years, with the republic enriching uranium at its highest ever levels and close to weapons-grade.

Amirabdollahian said: “Iran’s commitments are as clear as a mathematical formula. It is absolutely clear what we are supposed to do and how these measures will be verified through the IAEA [the UN nuclear watchdog]. Therefore the other side can have no concern; But we remain concerned primarily about the guarantees [that the US would not withdraw].”

Expressing Tehran’s frustrations with Washington’s position as weeks of talks in Vienna appear at risk of stalling, Amirabdollahian said: “We are facing problems during this period because the other party lacks a serious initiative.”

Diplomats and analysts say the EU-brokered negotiations had been more constructive in recent weeks. A senior U.S. official said last month that the negotiations in January “were among the most intensive”, adding that “we made progress narrowing down the list of differences to just the key priorities on all sides”. But the official warned that “we only have a handful of weeks left to get a deal” because of Iran’s nuclear advances.

The other crucial issue for Iran is the scale of sanctions relief any agreement would provide. Amirabdollahian said that Iran wanted the negotiations to lead to the “total lifting” of sanctions. The challenge, however, was that the Biden administration was only willing to remove the economic sanctions authorised by Trump, he said.

“This is not all we are looking for. That Trump unilaterally and unjustly imposed sanctions on real and legal entities in Iran under some allegations as Iran’s missile programme, regional issues or human rights is not acceptable,” Amirabdollahian said. “This is also one of the challenges which remains on the negotiating table in Vienna.”

Amirabdollahian said U.S. officials had sent “many messages” to have direct talks with Iran, but ruled out any such move. “Our last response to Americans and intermediaries was: any direct dialogue, contact and negotiation with the U.S. would have very huge costs for my government,” the foreign minister said. “We are not ready to enter into the process of direct talks with the U.S. if we do not have a clear and promising outlook to reach a good agreement with sustainable guarantees in front of us.”

He added that Tehran had indicated to the U.S. that if Washington’s “intentions are genuine, you should take some practical and tangible steps on the ground before any direct talks and contacts can take place”. This could include unfreezing billions of dollars of Iranian petrodollars stuck in foreign central banks because of Trump’s sanctions or a presidential executive order to lift some of the sanctions, he said.

Amirabdollahian said that in “general, we are optimistic”. “We also welcome a good deal in the shortest time however this deal must uphold the rights of the Iranian people,” he said.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Tehran Blasts Washington for Weaponizing Dollar. Foreign Minister spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that the United States’ extraterrestrial sanctions proved to everyone, including Europeans, that it has weaponized dollar as a mass destruction weapon.

Speaking in a press conference on Monday, Khatibzadeh said that the dollar has been turned into a military weapon in the international financial and monetary system against all, victimizing all geographical regions and monetary systems.

That’s why financial and monetary systems in the world have decided to decouple themselves from the dollar system, he continued.

He also said that some countries have established independent inter-bank messaging systems from the existing ones.

The spokesman said that Iran was going to host the next ministerial meeting of Afghanistan neighbors on Wednesday next week. He said foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighbors would join the one-day meeting in person.

The agenda would be the same as in the first meeting and foreign ministers of six countries would be focused on how to help form an all-inclusive government in Afghanistan and the future of peace and security in the country, he added.

On the talks to lift illegal U.S. sanctions against Iran, Khatibzadeh said that Iran’s definite decision was to continue talks, but it demanded the unconditional return of the US to the JCPOA and its commitments under the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and under the JCPOA itself.

He underlined that Iran’s main goal was to ensure that no one else in Washington could once again humiliate the whole world by exiting a signed agreement. The spokesman was referring to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision in 2018 to cease U.S. participation in the JCPOA.

He noted Tehran will soon finalize its internal deliberations on the resumption of the JCPOA revival talks.

Khatibzadeh said Deputy Foreign Minister Baqeri-Kani, who is likely to lead Iran’s new negotiating team in Vienna, will publicly discuss issues about the challenges and obstacles in the talks.

The spokesman reiterated that the U.S. must uphold its commitments as stipulated in the nuclear deal signed between Iran and the world powers in 2015, noting that no practical steps have been taken so far by Washington.

He said the Joe Biden administration is continuing the former administration’s “maximum pressure campaign” against Iran and that there has been “no change in its policies”.

In response to a question about Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian’s statement made on Sunday that the U.S. must take “serious steps” before the resumption of talks in Vienna, Khatibzadeh said the remarks are an “expression of logic” and do not imply any message to the Americans.

He called on the U.S. to “reconsider its policy” toward Iran and “show it in practice” by removing the draconian sanctions and returning to the deal as well as guaranteeing that the agreement won’t be breached again.

On the negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia on resumption of normal ties, the diplomat said that four rounds of talks have been held in Baghdad, but the negotiations haven’t reached a point that the details could be announced.

He also touched on the accusations made by Azerbaijan Republic officials against Iran, urging Azerbaijani leaders to let the conversations between officials be continued through diplomatic channels and avoid negative media statements.

The Spokesman also said that the relationship between Iran and the Azerbaijan Republic was natural, but stressed that Azerbaijani officials should be cautious not to be trapped by third parties.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Ambassador and Chargé d’affaires ad interim of the Permanent Mission of Iran to the UN firmly rejected unsubstantiated allegations made by the U.S. and UK against Iran regarding Mercer Street vessel incident.

In her statement addressing the United Nations Security Council on “Maintenance of international peace and security: Enhancing Maritime Security: A case for international cooperation”, Zahra Ershadi said that “Regarding the politically motivated statements made by the United States and the United Kingdom in this meeting against Iran concerning the Mercer Street vessel incident, I reiterate, once again, our firm rejection of these unsubstantiated allegations.”

“According to the World Bank Group, over 80% of international trade are transported by sea and the volume of seaborn trade is expected to double by 2030 and quadruple by 2050,” she added.

“These figures alone prove the importance of oceans and seas in the global economy and confirm the vital importance of, and the need for, the perseveration of maritime security as a global common good,” she noted.

“Enjoying the longest coasts in such strategically important waterways as the Persian Gulf, the Oman Sea and the Hurmuz Strait, as well as high maritime shipping capacity, and also as an important oil and gas producing country, the Islamic Republic of Iran is highly interested in, and attaches great importance to, maritime security,” Iranian diplomat said.

“Maritime security is key in ensuring freedom of navigation, facilitating international communication, promoting peaceful uses of the seas and oceans and their resources, the conservation of their living resources, and the preservation of the marine environment, as well as promoting the economic and social advancement of all peoples and strengthening of peace, security, cooperation and friendly relations among all nations,” she said.

“As a basic principle, the primary responsibility for ensuring maritime security, including by effectively combating maritime crimes notably piracy and armed robbery at sea, rests with individual States consistent with their relevant obligations under international law,” she added.

“When needed, efforts to counter maritime crimes may be complemented, at the regional level, by cooperation and partnership of States of the region concerned, and at the high seas, through international cooperation,” Ershadi said.

“Nevertheless, all such activities must be conducted in full conformity with the basic principles of international law, particularly full respect for the sovereignty of States and refraining from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of States,” she added.

She further said he Israeli regime cannot deflect attention away from its acts of naval terrorism by throwing unproven accusations against Iran of destabilizing activity, says the Islamic Republic’s deputy UN envoy.

“Such accusations can, in no way, cover up the Israeli regime’s [own] acts of terrorism against commercial naval navigation. Over less than two years, the regime [itself] has attacked more than 10 commercial vessels carrying oil or humanitarian goods in regional waters,” she said.

She, meanwhile, pointed to a subsequent accusation that had alleged that the attack on the Israeli tanker had originated from Yemen.

The latter accusation was used towards supposedly explaining a special forces’ deployment by the UK to Yemen. The deployment allegedly sought to target the “terrorists,” who had been “responsible” for the attack on the Israeli vessel.

British special forces arrive in Yemen to hunt down those whom the UK alleges are behind a drone attack on an Israeli-linked tanker, the Daily Express reports.

She also said such actions showed that the UK and others had not yet “learned from their defeat in invading Yemen.”

She was referring to the Western allies’ support for a 2015-present Saudi-led war on the Arab nation. The war has stopped short of all of its goals, including bringing the Yemeni people to their knees.
