TEHRAN (Iran News) – Head of International Affairs of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Mohammad Reza Karbasi in meeting with new and outgoing commercial attaches of Vietnam in Tehran criticized the considerable decline in the economic relation of the two countries and urged Vietnam to use alternative financial avenues in trade with Iran to boost it.

In the meeting, Karbasi said due to the banking problems due to the sanctions, both countries can use barter as a solution for enhancing their trade ties. He said the senior officials of the two countries eye the trade volume of at least $2b but despite plans, today we see considerable decline in the bilateral trade. He then pointed to some goods required by Iran which can be provided by Vietnam and said experience has shown us that there are good capacities for restoring trade relations in the fields of petrochemical, mining, agro, medicines and medical equipment, sea foods and products and rubber.

Karbasi then pointed to the lack of direct flight between Tehran and Hanoi and said it was expected after the formation of Iran-Vietnam Joint Chamber and Joint Council all-out bilateral cooperation would continue in higher levels between the two states which did not materialize, noting that restriction on visa issuance is also another hurdle in way of joint cooperation.

He then referred to some details of the Iran-Vietnam Joint commission meeting and signing the preferential tariff agreement on some goods which did not come into effect. He noted that there are good capacities for export of rice, tropical fruits and products from Vietnam to Iran and if there is a strong determination in Vietnam, it can import Iranian industrial and agro products in exchange of exporting its products to Tehran.

Karbasi then once again called for re-activation of the joint commercial council of the two countries.

Then the outgoing Vietnamese commercial attache Lin Bang Kok, for his part, expressed the interests of all companies in Vietnam for cooperation with Iran and reiterated that Vietnamese economic activists have no specific information on the business climate in Iran and they are willing to cooperate with their Iranian counterparts under a specified and a defined framework.

He then pointed to the lack of banking system in the trade exchanges and said that since in the field of bartering Vietnam is importer and exporter of different products, it is required some coordination is prepared in advance.

Ban Kok then referred to the joint commission meeting of the two countries and said for exchange of delegation both sides need sanitary agreement between the two states due to the pandemic. He said the embassy has referred its views to the senior officials over easing the visa for Iranian traders.

Then the new Vietnamese commercial attache Mr. Thuan Long, for his part, said there are several tropical fruits and rice in Vietnam for exports and said the trade volume between Iran and Vietnam was less than $100m last year and called it an unreal figure because some of the exchanges between the two countries are not registered due to the sanction condition.

Mohammad Hassan Didehvar in an interview with ILNA said that launching the bartering trade system is the easiest way for transfer of goods into the country, adding that perhaps in the past years bartering system was an appropriate way for easy exports but currently there is no harmony in this system because the country’s exports have significantly declined and it is not as much as imports, reiterating that barter will be good and useful issue if there are some facilities for exports.

On the restrictions for exports, he said that unfortunately exports have been limited, for example, Iran has huge amount of money in South Korea which has been blocked and due to sanctions the country is unable to export to South Korea but with country like Russia this method is still on.

He noted unfortunately what Iranian exporters are after it does not exist in Eastern Bloc and all are related to European states, South Korea and Japan which do not have barter trade exchange with Iran. He added that Iranian traders have recently started bartering trade exchange with Vietnam.

Didehvar went on to say that bartering trade is an appropriate way in case those countries which have blocked our money let us have barter trade with them.

He urged the government and officials to step in to solve the issue of frozen money in those countries and to work on bartering trade with those countries.

He reiterated that in case bartering trade with those countries begins, Iran will see 30 to 40 percent growths in exports and foreign ministry should interfere.

He admitted recent U.S. sanctions on 18 Iranian banks and financial institutes have stepped up the problems for exporters.

In one of the messages sent on Monday, Rouhani congratulated Kyrgyzstan’s President Sooronbay Jeenbekov and its nation on the 29th anniversary of the central Asian country’s independence.

He also expressed hope that Tehran-Bishkek relations would continue to expand in all areas given their historical and cultural commonalities.

Calling for the removal of obstacles to the promotion of bilateral relations, Rouhani wished Kyrgyzstan prosperity and success.

August 31, 1991 is the day when Kyrgyzstan gained independence from the Soviet Union. The Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz Republic later adopted a Declaration of Independence of Kyrgyzstan.

In a separate message to his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Phu Trong, Rouhani congratulated the people and government of Vietnam on the anniversary of the Southeast Asian country’s Independence Day.

The president also hoped for the expansion of cooperation between the two nations in various fields in light of their age-old friendship and the high-ranking officials’ determination.

Vietnam’s National Day commemorates the Vietnam Declaration of Independence from France on September 2, 1945.

Japan occupied Vietnam during World War II but allowed the French to remain and exert some influence. At the war’s end in August 1945, a power vacuum was created in Vietnam.

Capitalizing on this, the Viet Minh launched the “August Revolution” across the country to seize government offices.

Leader: Economy Should Not Be Linked to Foreign Developments

IRAN NEWS NATIONAL DESK

TEHRAN – Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stating that the country’s economy should not be linked to foreign developments in any way because this is a strategic mistake, underlined that economic planning for the country should not wait for the lifting of sanctions or the result of the elections of a certain country.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei yesterday on the occasion of Government Week in a video link with the President and his cabinet members called the last year of the current government’s term a good opportunity to increase services in various fields.

He also made remarks on important economic issues such as production, investment, the value of the national currency, and also cyberspace and stated that the government should seriously remove the barriers to production and make more efforts to solve the problems.

Ayatollah Khamenei also called the Ashura incident the peak of jihad, sacrifice, and martyrdom, and referring to the coincidence of Government Week with the first 10-day of Muharram, added that the basis of Government Week is also diligence and martyrdom because Rajaie and Bahonar(the martyred president and prime minister), with continuous struggle, hard work, and effort during problems, refused to pursue personal interests and avoided in attracting the attention of the people, made themselves worthy of the great divine reward, namely martyrdom.

Referring to the great and important news that the president and members of the government announced in their reports, the Leader added that Government Week is a good opportunity to explain and inform the services of government members and review the strengths and weaknesses that the government should pay attention.

The Leader of the Revolution considered the last year of the government’s term as a significant opportunity and in many ways very important and said the government should use the last opportunity as much as it can to serve the people and the country.

In this regard, Ayatollah Khamenei, referring to the serious housing problem in the country, said that the government has promised to build 600,000 housing units in the last year of its term, and the fulfillment of this promise can be effective in solving the housing problem.

Pursuing and making serious efforts to fulfill the promises made, including the weekly plans of the Ministry of Energy, the refinery policy to prevent the export of crude oil, the strengthening of knowledge-based companies, the continuation of good scientific and health services against Corona and increasing production was another strong recommendation of the Leader of the Revolution to the government for the last year of activity.

He also said the United States’ model of governance has proven “an utter failure,” and human values have taken the biggest hit in America. He added, “Human values like health, justice, and security are trampled upon the most in America.”

“The social gap there is horrible, the number of the hungry and the homeless and their ratio [to the overall population] are higher than the conventional [rates of] world countries,” the Leader said.

“According to rivals speaking explicitly in election campaigns, one in five American children suffers from hunger. And additionally, insecurity and crime rate are very high in America,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

The fact that the U.S. is headed by people who are a source of humiliation for that country is another sign of the defeat of western models and the decline of western civilization in the world.

The Leader said that, apart from those internal and managerial problems, the United States also engaged in such “common practices” as “murder, the waging of wars, and the causing of insecurity” in foreign lands, such as Syria, Palestine, Yemen, and formerly in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, and Hiroshima (Japan).
