Vahid Amiri returns to Persepolis

The 31-year-old player has penned a two-year contract with Persepolis.

Amiri’s performance in the 2018 World Cup caught the eye of Turkish football club Trabzonspor but he failed to hold down a regular starting place in the team.

He left Trabzonspor last week and returned to the Iranian giants, where he had claimed two Iran Professional League titles and two Super Cups with the team.

“I am very happy to return to Persepolis once again. I had several offers from the other Iranian teams but I opted to return to my home,” Amiri said.

“I’m excited for a new opportunity in Persepolis. I know some of Persepolis fans are not happy with my decision last season and I understand them. But I’ve returned to the team and I will do my best to make them happy,” he added.

Amiri, who has been in Iran squad in two AFC Asian Cups (2015 and 2019), will leave Tehran on Sunday to join Persepolis team in Istanbul training camp.

Vahid Amiri out for three weeks

TEHRAN – Trabzonspor’s new signing Vahid Amiri has been sidelined for three weeks with knee injury.

Amiri sustained a right knee injury in the friendly match against Cagliari held in early August.

He will require three weeks rest after an MRI scan.

The 29-year-old joined Trabzonspor on July 20 on a two-year contract.

Amiri has missed Trabzonspor’s opening match against Istanbul Basaksehir, scheduled for Sunday.

Vahid Amiri played every minute of their 2018 World Cup campaign, where they impressed against Morocco, Spain and Portugal.

Vahid Amiri voted IPL Player of the Year

Vahid Amiri was honored last night with the Best Player of the Year award after his sensational year with Persepolis in Iran Professional League (IPL).

The 30-year-old midfielder also represented Iran in three matches of Group B against Morocco, Spain and Portugal in the 2018 World Cup.

Amiri, who joined Turkey’s Trabzonspor on Saturday, helped Persepolis win IPL back-to-back titles.

Persepolis were named the best team of the year after the Reds won the title with three weeks remaining.

Branko Ivankovic was named as the best coach of the year after leading Persepolis to back-to-back title.

Ali Alipour, Persepolis striker, took the best goalscorer of the year award with 19 goals.

Persepolis captain Jalal Hosseini won the best defender of the year prize.

Persepolis goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand won the best goalkeeper of the year award.

Omid Ebrahimi was chosen as the best midfielder of the year after an astonishing year with Esteghlal.

Esteghlal midfielder Server Djeparov won the best assist provider of the year.

Paykan defender Mehdi Shiri won the fair play award of the year.

Bijan Heydari was named the best referee of the year.

Trabzonspor reach agreement with Vahid Amiri: Report

TEHRAN – Turkish media reported that Persepolis midfielder Vahid Amiri has reached an agreement with Trabzonspor.

The Tukish club have already negotiated with Iranian international defenders Majid Hosseini and Pejman Montazri.

Amiri, who represented Iran national football team against Morocco, Spain and Portugal in Group B of the 2018 World Cup, is a free agent player and has yet to extend his contract with Iran’s Persepolis.

Amiri, 30, will reportedly undergo the exam to determine if he is healthy enough to join Trabzonspor.

Al-Rayyan of Qatar and Ukraine’s Dynamo Kiev have also showed interest in signing the midfielder.
