TEHRAN (Iran News) – Government says is impartial in presidential elections. The presidential chief of staff on Wednesday said the government is “quite impartial” toward the presidential elections.

“If some want to attribute a candidate to the government and say that the government backs one candidate is not true,” Mahmoud Vaezi told reporters after a cabinet meeting.

Vaezi said the government neither has a candidate nor does it back a candidate. The government also does not oppose any candidate, he added.

Central bank governor Abdolnasser Hemmati, who is being replaced by his deputy Akbar Komeijani, is competing for the presidential post. He was among the seven candidates who were confirmed by the Guardian Council.

Vaezi said Hemmati himself decided to contest the elections and refuted rumors that he is being backed by the government.

The presidential chief of staff said the government is tasked to hold the election and “it does not want to elect somebody as a replacement and tell people vote for this person.”

What is important for the government is an enthusiastic election, Vaezi pointed out.

The future of the Islamic Republic is important for the government, he said, adding whoever is elected president the government is ready to share its eight years of experiences with him.

It is the duty of the government to “sincerely” exchange experiences with the future government and brief the next ministers about the plans that have been Ironed out for the country’s future.

Speaking at the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, President Hassan Rouhani asked the electorate to vote not only for the most qualified candidate but for a candidate who has most efficient “plan and strategy” for running the government.

The presidential elections will be held on June 18. The first round of presidential debates will be held on Saturday.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian government Chief of Staff Mahmoud Vazei described the atmosphere at Vienna negotiations as “positive” and expressed hope that good days would be ahead of the Iranian people once the sanctions are lifted.

Vaezi said that although the negotiations have some difficulties along the way, “we are witnessing a positive atmosphere in Vienna.”

He stated that if the process continues in the same way, the people would see some progress in these negotiations.

“The efforts of the Iranian government and the negotiating team are to shape a dialogue within the framework drawn by the senior officials of the country and the fulfillment of the conditions stated by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution,” the chief of staff remarked.

He noted that in this direction, Iran tries to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) by observing all the considerations, laws, and frameworks and achieve the lifting of sanctions.

Vaezi stressed that with the lifting of the oppressive sanctions against Iran, “there will undoubtedly be good days waiting for the country’s economy and people’s livelihood.”

He noted that the government would try to seize every opportunity to accomplish this goal without wasting time.
‘Iran welcomes development of relations with neighbors’

Regarding the Iranian foreign minister’s regional tour, the chief of staff stated that Iran has always considered the development of relations with its neighbors as a strategic goal and has welcomed dialogue and cooperation with its neighbors, considering the region’s shared interests.

“Foreign Minister Zarif’s visit to several neighboring countries is a step in the same direction, and considering the areas of cooperation and development of relations, as well as the need for inter-regional talks to meet the challenges of the region, this tour has been done and fortunately has achieved good results,” Vaezi remarked.

‘Iran has always welcomed dialogue with Saudi Arabia’

“We have always stated in recent years that we are ready to engage with our neighbor Saudi Arabia to avoid tensions, strengthen cooperation and expand the space for dialogue, and we still stand by that position,” Vaezi said about the possible Iran-Saudi Arabia dialogue.

The chief of staff stressed that strengthening Iran-Saudi Arabia relations is undoubtedly in the region’s interest and can effectively overcome many unnecessary tensions and challenges.

In a statement on April 29, Saeed Khatibzadeh, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that “Iran welcomes the change in Saudi Arabia’s tone.”

The statement came in response to a recent interview by the Saudi crown prince in which he expressed willingness to mend ties with Iran.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The chief of staff of the Iranian president highlighted the failure of American sanctions and pressures against Tehran, saying Washington has no option but to change policy towards the Islamic Republic no matter who wins the US presidential election.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a weekly cabinet session on Wednesday, Mahmoud Vaezi reminded the White House of the “futility” of sanctions and pressures on Iran.

“Whatever happens in the US and whoever takes power –be it the current administration or another president– … the US cannot achieve results against this (Iranian) nation, this government and this establishment through pressure,” he underscored.

Pointing to the “tough conditions” resulting from the US sanctions, the president’s chief of staff thanked the people of Iran for “realizing that the administration, the government and the three branches of power do not accept such conditions, as they are doing their utmost, and are not going to give in to the enemy’s pressures or bow down.”

“This is the price we are paying for our independence,” he said.

While the enemies had formulated plans for Iran’s economic collapse within three months, their plots have gone nowhere after two years and nine months despite all the pressures and sanctions, Vaezi added.

He touched on the recent sanctions the US has imposed on 18 Iranian banks, saying Tehran had made arrangements beforehand to deal with the sanctions since two months ago.

Iran would not make its plans public, because the enemy may block the new ways for Iranian trade, he added, noting that most of the Iranian ministries working with foreigners use “special methods” to bypass the sanctions.

“However, we would pay a higher cost. Under normal situation, we could have handled the exports more easily and our imports would also cost less. All in all, the situation is difficult. We have always maintained that we are sorry for people, we are sorry because of the pressures,” Vaezi stated, according to the government’s official website.

“There is no other option for it (the US) to change stances. Those who had made plans for three months (have gone nowhere) after two years and some nine months now. So I believe that the situation will be better in future, God willing,” he concluded.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian President’s Chief of Staff Mahmoud Vaezi dismissed rumors that Iran has supported Armenia amid a flare-up of fighting in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, expressing Tehran’s backing for the Republic of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

In a telephone conversation with the Republic of Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, the Iranian president’s chief of staff strongly denied the rumors spread by social networks that Iran has supplied help for Armenia amid the fresh wave of fighting in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

“Such rumors are totally baseless and aimed at upsetting the good relations between Iran and Azerbaijan,” Vaezi added.

Highlighting Iran’s respect for the Republic of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, the Iranian official said ending occupation would contribute to regional stability.

“The Republic of Azerbaijan has a special and important place in the Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign policy, and we have always seized every opportunity to strengthen and broaden our relations with that country,” Vaezi stressed.

Expressing concern about the armed clashes between Armenian and Azeri forces, he said Tehran is closely and seriously monitoring the developments and is ready for any help to settle the conflict through dialogue within the framework of international law.

For his part, Mustafayev hailed the amicable ties between Baku and Tehran, saying the two neighbors should not allow their close relations to be harmed by the hostile attempts.

Highlighting the cultural, religious and social values shared by Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azeri deputy PM said the bilateral relations have reached a good level thanks to the efforts from the authorities of the two countries.

The military forces of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan started a new round of clashes over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh on Sunday, the heaviest fighting between the two countries in years.

Baku had earlier voiced concern about reports of large arms shipments from Russia to Armenia during and after the fighting.

Last month, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev complained to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin about Moscow’s arms sales to Armenia amid the outbreak of fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian President’s Chief of Staff Mahmoud Vaezi called for a peaceful solution to the dispute in the Karabakh region after an escalation of tensions between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In a telephone conversation with foreign policy advisor to the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Hikmat Hajiyev on Sunday, Vaezi said Iran’s formal stance on the conflicts and disputes is “supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty” of the nations.

“Tensions in the region would certainly not be in the interest of any country, and we favor stability, development, and progress for all countries, particularly the Republic of Azerbaijan,” he added.

The Iranian president’s chief of staff further stressed the need for the settlement of Karabakh dispute through peaceful solutions and dialogue.

“As a friendly country and neighbor, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always stood by the Republic of Azerbaijan’s government and nation and attaches significance to the promotion of ties with that country,” Vaezi added.

For his part, Hajiyev commended Iran for its clear stances on international conflicts and its respect for the sovereignty of nations, saying, “Iran, as a very important and influential country in the region, has a major role in the settlement of regional problems and disputes.”

He also highlighted Baku’s willingness to boost relations with Tehran in various fields, particularly the economic ties.

Azerbaijan and Armenia, two former Soviet republics, have for decades been locked in a simmering conflict over Karabakh – an Azerbaijani territory seized by Armenian separatists in a bloody war in the 1990s.

Some 30,000 people were killed in the conflict, which ended with a fragile truce in 1994. The two sides are still technically at war and have yet to reach a permanent peace agreement on the issue.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Iranian president’s Chief of Staff Mahmoud Vaezi said Iran is determined to support the legitimate government of Venezuela and help the country’s people to overcome problems.

The Iranian official, Mahmoud Vaezi made the remarks in a meeting with Venezuelan president’s Special Envoy Jorge Elieser in Tehran on Monday, IRNA reported.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always respected the Venezuelan government and people and welcomes the development of relations and cooperation with this country,” Vaezi said.

Referring to the friendly relations between Tehran and Caracas in various fields, Vaezi stressed the need for greater efforts aimed at developing relations between the two countries.

Vaezi added that the United States is seeking to hatch plots against freedom-seeking countries through imposing sanctions and exerting pressure on countries.

Pointing to US pressure on both countries, the Iranian official underlined that the two countries should not allow the enemies’ sanctions to harm the development and welfare of the people through promoting solidarity and the expansion of relations.

The Venezuelan official for his part expressed appreciation for Iran’s support for the South American country and called for the comprehensive development of relations between the two countries.

He said that the people of Venezuela see the Iranian nation as a great and heroic nation, adding that, “The arrival of Iranian ships carrying gasoline to Venezuela was a day of celebration for the Venezuelan people.”

Recently, Iran sent five tankers loaded with 1.53 million barrels of gasoline and alkylate to Venezuela to help jump start the oil refineries there amid a fuel crisis.

Iran also sent a cargo ship carrying foodstuffs to Venezuela, the sixth vessel Tehran has sent to the sanctions-hit Latin American country over the past weeks.

All of the vessels reached Venezuela under military escort in defiance of draconian American sanctions targeting both Iran and Venezuela. Iran’s fuel shipments drew the ire of the US.

On Sunday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Venezuela’s Independence Day and called for the enhancement of strategic relations between Tehran and Caracas.

Rouhani expressed confidence that Venezuela will overcome the existing problems and its people will emerge victorious in the near future in light of the “resistance” shown by its government and great nation.

“Any politician or influencing figure who loves Iran should try to motivate people to participate in the upcoming elections,” Vaezi said on Wednesday.

Noting that the parliamentary election is an issue beyond the interests of a political party or movement, he said, “They [political figures] should avoid any act that disappoints people from going to the polls.”

The official described people’s participation in the country’s affairs as one of the “main bases” of the Islamic Republic’s establishment.

Touching upon the huge participation of the nation in the February 11 rallies – marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution – Vaezi expressed hope that the nation will, once again, show their true support to the establishment and let down the enemies of the country.

The 11th round of parliamentary elections will be held on February 21. The race will be held for 290 parliamentary seats in over 200 constituencies across the country’s 31 provinces.

Mahmoud Vaezi made the comments in a meeting with visiting Azerbaijani Economy Minister, Shahin Mustafayev, on Wednesday, during which he also said “the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan have a lot of commonalities and capacities, and today, close cooperation has been established between all the institutions and divisions of the two countries, and relations have expanded dramatically.”

Referring to the emphasis of the two countries’ officials on the implementation of joint projects, the Chief of staff of Iran’s president said “we are determined to do everything we can to promote the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”

Vaezi also referred to Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani’s future visit to Azerbaijan, hoping “the visit will further strengthen the bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries in the region and the international arena.”

In another part of his remarks, the Chief of staff of Iran’s president stressed the need for repelling extremism, saying “in the current volatile situation in the region, the meeting and consultation of the presidents of Iran and Azerbaijan is very important, because both countries are looking for stability and peace and oppose extremism, war, conflict and aggression.”

In turn, Azerbaijani Minister of Economic Development, Shahin Mustafayev expressed his satisfaction with the growing relations between Tehran and Baku over the past years and appreciated the valuable Vaezi’s efforts in the past and current positions, saying “the fact that we have reached the current level of cooperation and relations between the two countries in a short term is astonishing,” adding that the current close relations were achieved through determination and efforts of both nations.

Mustafayev hoped that the bilateral relations would continue to grow.

With regard to Rouhani’s future visit to Azerbaijan, the Azeri minister said that he and his high-ranking accompanying delegation are in Iran to prepare the ground for Iran’s president’s visit, adding that his country considers Rouhani’s visit as a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations between the two sides.

TEHRAN – Mahmoud Vaezi, the Chief of staff of Iran’s president says that the government has not agreed to discuss missile program in negotiations and the JCPOA is respected if followed with no change.

“The whole Establishment, government, and foreign ministry share the same approach toward the nuclear agreement; to us, the negotiations are over and they won’t be repeated under no circumstances; this is a clear point that we have reiterated again and again in meeting with officials of all relevant countries,” said Mahmoud Vaezi, the Chief of staff of Iran’s president.

The official made the remarks on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the cabinet meeting in Tehran, when asked to comment on Europe-US measure of forming a joint committee of amending the JCPOA.

“If they form a committee to discuss the JCPOA, let them do it, because when Iran, as the main party of the JCPOA, is not attending the committee so Iran will not abide by the results,” continued the Iranian official.

“We have exchanged views with China, Russia, and the European Union and they have accepted that if the JCPOA is going to keep its place, it should be left untouched so we don’t care the formation of such a committee,” reiterated the former ICT minister.

“We have said repeatedly that our defensive and missile capabilities are not negotiable,” said Mr. Vaezi when asked if Iran has negotiated with European parties over its missile program.

“We have not negotiated over this issue with anybody. It is a universal convention that during meetings the two sides listen to the comments of each other but we have not brokered any agreement, neither have we agreed to form a committee to discuss missile program,” he added.

He also said that French foreign minister’s visit to Iran has no objective of discussing Iran’s missile program.

“Assuredly, we won’t discuss our missile capability with any country, this is a domestic issue and we are only body to decide about it. We won’t negotiate over increasing our capabilities, including the missile defense capability, with any other party,” asserted the Iranian official.

“It is very unlikely that France makes an official visit to Iran on behalf of US to negotiate with Iran. France is an independent country which disagrees with US in many areas,” reiterated Mr. Vaezi.

“The French foreign minister’s visit to Tehran is irrelevant to the recent meeting between US and French FMs and the visit was scheduled months earlier,” he noted.

“The areas of international issues to be discussed between Iran and France make up a long list and so there is no need to have the French travel to Tehran on behalf of the Americans,” stated the Iranian senior official.
