The vaccines included BCG and hepatitis B which are made by the Pasteur Institute of Iran. So far, 10 countries have succeeded in exporting the BCG vaccine, and there are only five active countries in the field of hepatitis B vaccine export, and Iran has now joined them, Delaram Darood, vice president of production of the Pasteur Institute, said, IRIB reported.

In June, Nicaragua received 200,000 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 from Iran.

Iran is the sixth country in the world and the first country in West Asia to gain the ability to produce the Coronavirus vaccine.

Last November, the Ministry of Health issued a license to export 20 percent of the domestically produced coronavirus vaccines.

Given that the country’s need is met in terms of vaccination, the Ministry of Health approved exporting 20 percent of domestically produced vaccines, Kamal Heydari, the deputy health minister, said.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Two domestic companies have conducted research to develop vaccines against the Omicron strain, ISNA reported on Monday.

Following the relevant protocols of the Food and Drug Administration for the development of vaccines against new strains, two domestic companies have completed their studies for the production of vaccines against the Omicron variant and will enter the clinical phase, after receiving the code of ethics.

Hamidreza Jamaati, Secretary of the National Scientific Committee against Coronavirus, said that Iran has started developing this vaccine at the same time as developed countries and leading vaccine companies in the world.

A knowledge-based company also developed a technological test kit to diagnose the new Omicron strain.

Iranian Health Minister Bahram Einollahi has announced the beginning of a new wave of coronavirus pandemic, as the number of infected people with the Omicron variant is surging.

The minister urged more caution against the disease and said getting booster vaccinations could play a major role in preventing a fresh surge in the number of deaths and infections from the virus.

Homegrown vaccines

Einollahi has said five coronavirus vaccines have been so far produced domestically.

Made by researchers at the Headquarters for Executing the Order of the Imam, COVIRAN Barkat was the first homegrown vaccine unveiled on December 29, 2020, and received the license for public use on June 14.

The second Iranian-made vaccine developed by the Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute (Razi Cov Pars) started the clinical trial on February 27.

The Iranian-Australian Spikogen vaccine joined the national vaccination process in November 2021.

Developed jointly by the Pasteur Institute of Iran and Cuba’s Finlay Vaccine Institute, the Pastu Covac prevented symptomatic disease in people inoculated with three doses by 65 percent and its effectiveness in the prevention of severe disease and hospitalization was 96.5 percent.

Iran is one of the few countries that has all vaccine production platforms, Mohammad Reza Shanehsaz, former head of the Iranian Food and Drug Administration, said in June.

Meanwhile, World Health Organization (WHO) representative to Iran Jaffar Hussain said in September that the Organization was collecting the necessary information for the registration and certification of Iranian-made coronavirus vaccines.

The head of Iranian leading institute for health products and medical sciences recounted his institute’s latest achievements in producing new vaccines and exporting to the countries of the region, the Public Relations Department of Inan’s Ministry of Health reported on Saturday.

“Equipping the production lines of the human rabies vaccine with the system of quality control and the export of the products of this institute to the countries of the region are the new accomplishments of the Pasteur Institute of Iran,” said Dr. Alireza Biglari, the PII Head, on Saturday.

“In the last 6 months, good measures have been undertaken to enhance the infrastructures of production in the institute and the PII has managed to obtain the standard of pharmaceutical equipment in the section of antigen production and we have also planned to increase the production of hepatitis B vaccine,” recounted the official.

He also referred to obtaining the licenses for the production of Brucella and Salmonella diagnostic agents as the PII’s breakthroughs in the field of quality.

“The institute has succeeded in registering 11 patents domestically and is following the process to patent another case in abroad,” the head of the Pasteur Institute of Iran stated.

He also added that the institute is negotiating with Chinese, Turkish, and Syrian partners to export technical knowledge, patent products, and invest in their countries.

TEHRAN– Domestically manufactured rotavirus and rabies vaccines will enter Iranian market by 2019, Head of Pasteur Institute of Iran (IPI) announced Monday.

According to Head of Pasteur Institute of Iran (IPI), Dr. Houman Kaghazian, the manufacture of rabies vaccine went underway at Pasteur Institute five years ago, and will be ready to enter the Iranian market in two years’ time.

Each dose of the vaccine costs about $6 and the country needs 500,000 vials each year, which means three million dollars’ worth of money leaving the country. The moment the domestically-manufactured vaccine hits the market, this amount will be reduced and then drop to zero.

Dr. Kaghazian maintained that the vaccine will be produced by utilizing the capacities of knowledge-based companies, noting that the rabies vaccine will be prescribed for those people who are at risk of getting bitten by animals such as dogs or cats.

Stressing that evaluations have reported the quality of the vaccine as satisfactory, he said the Institute is planning to produce other vaccines in the near future.

“We are planning to release rotavirus vaccine into the market within two years,” he said. “The vaccine is given to infants to protect them against infections of rotavirus, which are the causes of one of the most common types of diarrhea and any type of disease associated with it in infants.”

According to head of Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute, Hamid Kahram, Iran is among the top ten countries in terms of vaccine production.
