TEHRAN (Iran News) – The chief of staff of the Iranian president highlighted the failure of American sanctions and pressures against Tehran, saying Washington has no option but to change policy towards the Islamic Republic no matter who wins the US presidential election.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a weekly cabinet session on Wednesday, Mahmoud Vaezi reminded the White House of the “futility” of sanctions and pressures on Iran.

“Whatever happens in the US and whoever takes power –be it the current administration or another president– … the US cannot achieve results against this (Iranian) nation, this government and this establishment through pressure,” he underscored.

Pointing to the “tough conditions” resulting from the US sanctions, the president’s chief of staff thanked the people of Iran for “realizing that the administration, the government and the three branches of power do not accept such conditions, as they are doing their utmost, and are not going to give in to the enemy’s pressures or bow down.”

“This is the price we are paying for our independence,” he said.

While the enemies had formulated plans for Iran’s economic collapse within three months, their plots have gone nowhere after two years and nine months despite all the pressures and sanctions, Vaezi added.

He touched on the recent sanctions the US has imposed on 18 Iranian banks, saying Tehran had made arrangements beforehand to deal with the sanctions since two months ago.

Iran would not make its plans public, because the enemy may block the new ways for Iranian trade, he added, noting that most of the Iranian ministries working with foreigners use “special methods” to bypass the sanctions.

“However, we would pay a higher cost. Under normal situation, we could have handled the exports more easily and our imports would also cost less. All in all, the situation is difficult. We have always maintained that we are sorry for people, we are sorry because of the pressures,” Vaezi stated, according to the government’s official website.

“There is no other option for it (the US) to change stances. Those who had made plans for three months (have gone nowhere) after two years and some nine months now. So I believe that the situation will be better in future, God willing,” he concluded.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Former representative of Iran to the United Nations said that Iran-China’s cooperation is strategic, and the US has failed to isolate Iran.

Referring to the various dimensions of Iran-China 25-Year Cooperation Roadmap, Gholam Ali Khoshroo called the cooperation a turning point in the relations between the two countries, as well as comprehensive development in their relationship.

He described the Iran-China 25-Year Cooperation Plan as a roadmap for the two countries to use each other’s existing capacities to strengthen and develop bilateral and regional cooperation.

China is the world’s second-largest economy because of its economic position over the past 20 years, and if it continues to do so, it will become the world’s largest economy, he added.

Khoshroo said that Iran could be a major trading partner for China, given its rich oil and gas reserves as well as petrochemicals.

Noting that China, with its high financial strength, can invest in large projects in Iran, he said that the “One Belt-One Road” project can bring Iran-China relations closer, both by land and by water. Therefore, the strategy of cooperation between the two countries is a great opportunity for 25 years.

Over the past 20 years, China has made tremendous strides in various fields of industry, technology, and knowledge-based sectors, and is now the largest exporter to the European Union, the United States, Germany, and Japan, he added.

On the other hand, due to Iran’s position in having strategic oil and gas reserves and its position in the Persian Gulf, this memorandum is such that Iran can have a very wide cooperation with China, Khoshroo said.

He cited industrial, energy, financial, monetary, and banking sectors as areas where the two countries could further expand their cooperation.

He went on to say that one of the reasons the United States opposes China is that they have come to the conclusion that China, with its current move, will become the world’s leading economy in five years and surpass the United States in a century.

The United States opposes the cooperation between Iran and China, as it believes that with this agreement and the increase in the level of cooperation, the Islamic Republic of Iran will further expand its ties with the international community.

Khoshroo noted that Iran-China’s cooperation is strategic, and the US has failed to isolate Iran.

In remarks at a press conference on Monday, Seyed Abbas Mousavi said South Korea has been explicitly informed that their excuses for refusing to settle the debts to Iran are unacceptable and not admissible in any court.

“South Korea does not have to comply with the US sanctions… We want them to clear their debts as soon as possible. If we see the openings (for settlement of debts) being closed, we will definitely put other measures on the agenda,” he added.

Iran is not hit by the UN sanctions, but a bullying country has imposed embargoes on Iran, the spokesman underlined, adding, “As an independent state, South Korea is not obligated to implement those (US) sanctions.”

In June, Hossein Tanhaee, the chairman of Iran and South Korea’s joint chamber of commerce told Borna news agency that Iran’s frozen assets in South Korea were between $6.5 billion and $9 billion.

Tanhaee added that not only Korean banks refuse to release Iran’s money, some of them have also demanded commission and maintenance fees for Iran’s accounts.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, Kamal Kharrazi, said on Friday that over the past 40 years, Iran has shown that it will not give in to the bullying of foreigners, noting that mounting US pressure has made Iranians more determined to continue on their path.

Kharrazi said that the unilateral and misguided policies of the three European member states of the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, led by the United States, to stop Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities have always backfired, as Iran has become more determined to develop its nuclear technology, according to IRNA.

The US push to extend the Iran arms embargo in the UN Security Council and the three European countries’ anti-Iran move at the International Atomic Energy Agency will not only fail to deter Iran but undoubtedly lead to the collapse of the nuclear agreement as well, Kharrazi added.

The West must understand that neither economic sanctions nor an arms embargo will deter Iran from pursuing an independent strategic path. Iran has so far pursued its policy of self-sufficiency in the face of maximum Western pressure and has achieved successes in producing the defensive weapons it needs, he said.

In May 2018, US President Donald Trump unilaterally pulled his country out of the nuclear deal and later reimposed the sanctions that had been lifted against Tehran on the back of the deal. The US intransigence flew in the face of the fact that the deal has been ratified by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in the form of Resolution 2231.

Although it is no longer a party to the deal, Washington has recently launched a campaign to renew the embargo on the sale of conventional weapons to the Islamic Republic that will expire under the JCPOA in October.

The US recently served the UNSC with a draft resolution to extend the arms embargo.

Washington has threatened to force a “snapback” of all sanctions against Iran if its drive to renew the arms embargo failed.

On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo urged the UN Security Council to extend the expiring arms embargo as world powers from China to Europe pushed back against US threats to reimpose UN sanctions on Tehran if the weapons ban lapses, according to Bloomberg.

China and Russia – veto-wielding members of the council – warned on Tuesday that they won’t support that effort and were joined by Europe in disputing a Trump administration assertion that it holds the right to reimpose UN sanctions even though the US quit the accord in 2018.

Addressing a virtual UNSC meeting on Tuesday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the United States was an “outlaw bully” to whom the world body should not surrender, warning that giving in to Washington’s pressure threatens to restore the “law of the jungle.”

The projects included the construction of the Goureh-Jask pipeline in Hormogan province, Miandoab Petrochemical in West Azarbaijan, and the Normal Hegzane in Arak, Markazi production line.

The projects will not only meet the country’s domestic needs, but they can strengthen Iran’s international energy presence.

In his remarks, Rouhani said “Those who imposed sanctions on Iran i.e. the US and the Zionist regime are fully aware that they can not impede Iran from development and boosting production.

Rouhani added that Iran will skirt Strait of Hormuz in the south of the country to export oil.

Goureh-Jask oil pipeline is aimed to increase the capacity of transporting daily crude oil to one million barrels, create sustainable development and job opportunities in Makran and export oil through the new station.

The national strategic project, which will meet over 95 percent of national needs, is being implemented by Iranian contractors and producers.

Another project is Miandoab petrochemicals which will bring 140,000 tons of growth in petrochemical products after being implemented.

In addition, the production line of hexane will provide the country with all petrochemical products needed for the nation.

He arrived in Moscow on Tuesday and referred to the purpose of his trip and US efforts to extend Iran’s arms embargo, saying, “Relations between Iran and Russia as two neighbors are strategic, and we need to be constantly consulting.”

According to Zarif, the special international situation at the present time doubles this need.

“The US and some Western countries, both in the Board of Governors and in the Security Council, are working to disrupt not only the foundations of the JCPOA but also the foundations of international relations,” he said.

“As we have seen in recent months, the US has again shown that it is totally opposed to international agreements, and the US withdrawal from the World Health Organization was the latest example that the country turned into a political controversy in an attempt to cover up its weaknesses,” he added.

“The stance of Iran, Russia, China, and some other countries are exactly the same regarding Iran’s arms embargo. The EU main members are also very supportive, but they have so far failed to pursue an independent policy against the US, so we all need to continue the negotiations,” Zarif maintained.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani described the lifting of a UN arms embargo on Iran as a significant achievement of the 2015 nuclear deal, warning that any US push to extend the embargo will draw Tehran’s reaction.

Addressing a cabinet session on Sunday, Rouhani said, “The termination of the arms embargo (on Iran) … is one of the important achievements of the JCPOA and if Americans want to question this achievement, other big countries know what our reaction will be.”

The Iranian president also expressed hope that “all countries who are members of the United Nations Security Council and the Board of Governors” of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), would be aware of “the US planning with regard to these plots.”

“We, for our part, will be successful in this regard and will weather these plans that the United States has made for Iran,” he said, Press TV reported.

Posting a tweet in early June, Iran’s UN ambassador said the US’ call for an extension of the UN Security Council’s arms embargo on Tehran lacked legal standing in international law.

Majid Takht-e Ravanchi said the US ambassador to the UN “wrongly” believes the US retains the right to initiate snapback of sanctions under the UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

During past months, Washington has stepped up calls for the extension of a UN arms embargo on Iran, which will expire in October under UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorses Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Slamming the efforts of the United States to extend UN arms embargo against Iran which is due to expire in October in Separate letters, Russian FM and Chinese senior diplomat has started building a case at the United Nations against the US claim that it can trigger a return of all sanctions on Iran at the Security Council.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the Chinese government’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, both wrote to the 15-member council and UN chief Antonio Guterres as the United States threatens to spark a so-called sanctions snapback under the Iran nuclear deal, even though Washington quit the accord in 2018.

In a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Security Council circulated Monday, the Russian minister said statements by US State Department officials that the Trump administration doesn’t plan to resume its commitments under the nuclear deal but plans to invoke rights allegedly deriving from the resolution endorsing it are “ridiculous and irresponsible,” according to the Associated Press.

He said the United States withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and six major powers and now has no legal right to try to use the UN resolution endorsing the deal to indefinitely continue the arms embargo, which is set to expire on Oct. 18.

Lavrov’s letter went further in explaining Moscow’s strong opposition to an indefinite arms embargo and US use of the “snap back” provision.

“We are proceeding on the basis that the United Nations should not become hostage to the political situation in the United States, which has decided to withdraw from the plan,” he said. “There are no valid grounds for raising in the Security Council the issue of an arms embargo against Iran.”

Washington has threatened to trigger a return of UN sanctions on Iran if the Security Council does not extend an arms embargo due to expire in October under Tehran’s deal with world powers to prevent it from developing nuclear weapons.

US Ambassador to the UN Kelly Craft said last week that a draft resolution on the embargo would be circulated soon.

Council veto-powers Russia and China have already signaled they are against reimposing an arms embargo on Iran. If they block the US-drafted resolution, then Washington will have to follow through on its sanctions snapback threat.

“The United States, no longer a participant to the JCPOA (nuclear deal) after walking away from it, has no right to demand the Security Council invoke a snapback,” Wang wrote in his June 7 letter.

The 2015 Iran nuclear deal, enshrined in a UN resolution, allows for the return of sanctions on Iran, including the arms embargo, if Iran violates the deal. US President Donald Trump quit the deal in 2018, branding the accord from Barack Obama’s presidency as “the worst deal ever.”

The United States claims it can still trigger the sanctions snapback because the 2015 UN resolution still names it as a participant. Diplomats say Washington would likely face a tough, messy battle.

EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell has also reacted to US efforts to extend Iran’s arms embargo within the framework of JCPOA noting the US withdrew from the Nuclear Deal and cannot claim to be a member anymore.

Rouhani added that while the country has been dealing with the coronavirus, it could manage to experience a boom in its stock market indices with the participation of the people.

As one of the ways paving the economic growth despite US pressures and one of the pivotal goals of the government, he named making domestic markets transparent.

According to media reports, the benchmark of the Tehran Stock Exchange moved to new highs at the start of the trading week on Saturday amid renewed investor sentiments toward the market’s future.

TSE’s main gauge, TEDPIX, gained 40,306 points for the day to climb 3.9% and stand at an all-time high of 1,068,844 points.

The rally swept through all small and large-cap stocks with large-cap shares having the upper hand as shown in the 4.3% growth in the TSE-30 index, which tracks the performance of 30 largest companies listed with the TSE in terms of market capitalization.

The value of deals by retail investors in both TSE and the junior equity market Iran Fara Bourse amounted to 95 trillion rials ($558 million) on Monday, which was way lower than the average in recent days, according to Donyaye Bourse website.

The analytical website said 3.26 trillion rials ($20 million) in fresh liquidity was injected into the market on Monday.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A Luxembourg court said Iranian assets worth $1.6 billion held by Clearstream as compensation for alleged terror victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks will not be transferred to the US amid Washington’s pressures.

A Luxembourg district judge has blocked the transfer of funds and ruled that the Clearstream clearinghouse, a financial company owned by Deutsche Boerse based in Luxembourg, would be subject to a daily fine of $1.09 million if it moved the money, the Luxembourg Court of Cassation said in a statement.

It added that the appeals court had found the US seizure demand “inadmissible” and in violation of Luxembourg’s national law since the type of account, in which the cash is held in the European country, is “unseizable.”

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday that the country had won a legal “victory” over the assets that had long been frozen on a US request in Luxembourg.

“$1.6 billion of our money was in Luxembourg and the Americans had put their hands on it,” Rouhani said, adding that after trying for months, “We succeeded some and freed this money from the Americans’ grasp.”

A Tuesday report by the Washington Free Beacon, however, claimed that the Trump administration has received guarantees Iran will not repatriate the money.

Citing senior Trump administration officials, it said the United States has “received assurances that the funds continue to be frozen and will not be transferred to Iran at this time.”

Back in 2012, a New York court claimed there was evidence to show that Iran provided “material support and resources” to al-Qaeda operatives that carried out the terrorist attacks in the US in 2001.

The New York court awarded the plaintiffs damages of over $7 billion.

Iran has denied any links to al-Qaeda or any involvement in the 9/11 attacks whose perpetrators were mostly from Saudi Arabia.
