According To Iran News, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif highlighted the United States’ war crimes, violation of agreements and terrorist acts and said Washington has no right to vilify Iran by abusing the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

“US has tried to heighten tension w/ Iran & bully others to follow,” Zarif wrote in a post on his Twitter account on Thursday.

“But having admitted to:

-Terror assassination in Iraq

-Complicity in war crimes in Yemen & Palestine

-Piracy

-Breaching JCPOA, UNSCR 2231, & IAEA decisions,” he added.

The Iranian top diplomat underlined that, therefore, “It (the US) retains NO right to abuse UN & IAEA to vilify Iran.”

Zrif also attached a copy of an International Court of Justice ruling in 1971 that reads, “One of the fundamental principles governing the international relationship thus established is that a party which disavows or does not fulfill its own obligations cannot be recognized as retaining the rights which it claims to derive from the relationship.”

It came after US officials said that Washington would seek to restore all previously canceled sanctions against Iran if the UN Security Council fails to preserve an embargo on weapons supplies to Tehran, which expires this fall.

Under UNSC Resolution 2231, the arms embargo on Iran will be lifted in October 2020 as part of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal; however, the US says it will use a range of options to prevent this and use a Security Council provision to block the expiration of ban.

While the US is no longer a party to the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), it recently launched a campaign to renew the Iran arms ban — in place since 2006/2007 — through a resolution at the Security Council, but Russia and China are most likely to veto it.

US President Donald Trump quit the JCPOA in 2018, calling the accord from Barack Obama’s presidency “the worst deal ever.”

According To Iran News, Iran’s Ambassador to the UN Majid Takht Ravanchi lashed out at the US for imposing penalties on the other countries for compliance with the UNSC resolutions, saying Washington’s claim that it is still a participant to the JCPOA is both preposterous and false.

In a post on his Twitter account on Thursday, Takht Ravanchi pointed to the US withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, saying, “Two years ago, Donald Trump ceased participation in JCPOA. Now, in further violation of JCPOA & UNSCR 2231, (US Secretary of State) Pompeo pulls final plug, imposing penalties for compliance EVEN with nuclear provisions of 2231.”

“Claiming US is STILL ‘Participant’ is not just preposterous; it’s FALSE,” the Iranian diplomat underlined.

His criticism of Washington’s policies came after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wrote in two separate tweets on Thursday that the US would cancel the waivers related to the JCPOA and sanction two Iranians in connection with Tehran’s nuclear program.

In May 2018, Trump unilaterally pulled his country out of the multilateral Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in defiance of global criticism.

Ever since withdrawing from the agreement, Washington has launched a so-called maximum pressure campaign against Tehran, seeking to pressure it with a growing list of widespread sanctions targeting the Islamic Republic.

According To Iran News, Noting that UNSCR 2231 and JCPOA are inseparable, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif explained the resolution to his American counterpart once again.

“@SecPompeo pretends UNSCR 2231 is independent from #JCPOA. He should READ 2231,” wrote Zarif on Tuesday tweet.

Stating that Pompeo did not read the text of the resolution, he added, “JCPOA is PART of 2231. That’s why it’s 104 pages—& why he’s not read it.”

“2231 for Dummies: It would NOT EXIST w/o JCPOA. US violated it & prevented others from complying. US has NO standing,” the Iranian diplomat said.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo plans to invoke a provision in the Iran nuclear agreement, which the Trump administration pulled out of in 2018, in an effort to either extend an arms embargo on Iran or reimpose even harsher United Nations (UN) sanctions, the New York Times reported on Sunday.

Last week, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also called on the UN Security Council to extend Iran’s arms embargo under the pretext of preventing a new arms race in the Middle East.

Neither the US nor Europe can lecture Iran on flimsy misreading of the UN Security Council Resolution 2231, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said, reiterating that none of Iran’s missiles have been designed to be capable of carrying nukes.

In a message on his Twitter account on Friday, Foreign Minister Zarif lashed out at the US for violating the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and forcing the others to defy the resolution as well.

“US has been bullying all against UNSC Resolution 2231 since 2017. Europe obeyed US instead of 2231. Neither can lecture Iran based on flimsy misreadings of UNSCR 2231 ,” the top Iranian diplomat underlined.

“Iran neither has nukes nor missiles ‘DESIGNED to be capable of carrying’ such horrific arms. Guess who do?” Zarif underscored.

He has also attached two photos to his post, showing the US government’s paradoxical policy on the UNSC resolutions and Washington’s budget on nuclear warheads.

Resolution 2231 calls upon Iran “not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons.”

Iranian officials have time and again underscored that none of the country’s missiles have been designed to be capable of carrying nuclear warheads, because nuclear weapons have basically no place in Iran’s defense doctrine.
