The director-general of the Iranian Science Ministry’s office of foreign students said plans have been devised to allow the foreign students to resume their courses as of September 5.

Abdolhamid Alizadeh said universities will be required to let the foreigners take exams if they have not participated in the online tests remaining from the previous semester.

He had said in March that 15,680 foreign students have left Iran for their respective countries as part of plans to contain the coronavirus epidemic.

A few days after the outbreak of COVID-19 Iran, the Science Ministry, the Immigration and Passport Police Office, and a number of other organizations made arrangements to let foreign students leave the country in the shortest time possible and without bureaucratic processes.

He made the remarks in a get-together meeting held at the venue of Sari Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences University on Tue. in the presence of faculty members and university lecturers and added that the government has recently prepared the grounds for cultivating students’ talents in different areas.

The science minister introduced universities and academic centers as the best hubs for producing wealth and fulfilling demands of the society and urged the different sectors, such as industry, to establish necessary cooperation and collaboration with universities in order to materialize relevant objectives.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Gholami described ‘agricultural economy’ as the most important alternative for oil economy and added, “accordingly, farmers should be guided towards the modern and scientific methods.”

Once agricultural sector is equipped with most modern methods, the country can compete with advanced countries in the relevant field, science minister added.

The championship team will compete in the Russian World Project Management Championship.

One of the main goals of this competition is to portray projects by using the art of photography and film-making or animation (multi-media). The festival will begin in late November 2019.

The Project Management Championship is a 3 stage competition consisting of a qualification round, the national finals and the international final. The international final will be hosted each year by a different country.

PM Championships is targeted at full-time students at higher education studying project-related courses. Its core objectives are to enhance student involvement in the field of project management, to raise the interest in professional project management at a national and international level, as well as to advance the dialogue, the knowledge sharing and know-how between research and the business world.

“Also, some 30 Afghan university professors are M.A., M.S., and PHD candidates in Iran,” he added.

According to him, Afghan students are more inclined to study majors such as agriculture and engineering in Iran since Afghanistan is focused on its development.

As reported, some 7,000 foreign students are studying 195 majors in 8 universities across Iran.

In early August 2019, Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) and Afghanistan’s Khatam Al-Nabieen University signed and sealed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for broadening scientific and academic cooperation. Ramin Kordi, the Vice-President for International Affairs of Tehran University of MedicalSciences and Dr. Abdul-Qayum Sajadi, the president of Afghanistan’s Khatam Al Nabieen University inked the MoU.

It has been years that Afghan students are studying Iran. As Afghanistan’s Assistant Ambassador in Iran Ahmad Aaron Najmipour announced in May 2017 15,000 Afghan students were studying in Iran’s universities at the time.

Students are the best ambassadors between the two countries for the expansion and development of relations.

Turning to the launch of branch of domestic universities in abroad periodically, he added, “currently, branch offices of nationwide universities, Payam-e Noor (distance learning) and Azad universities have been set up abroad, some of which are busy active in relevant field.”

He further pointed to the launch of 18 joint branches in abroad and added, “about 18 independent branches of domestic universities have been set up in abroad jointly, the issue of which is one of the policies followed up by the Ministry of Science.”

He once again reiterated that the bylaw for setting up university, faculty and research centers with world’s top universities jointly has been approved at the Cabinet of Ministers, adding, “we hope that relevant Working Group will be launched within the next month.”

Currently, representatives from different responsible organizations have been introduced for this purpose, he added.

The Iranian team consisted of Fateme Sadat Sajadi and Amin Fathpour , who won a gold medal, Ali Daei Naby and Mohammad Reza Aminian, each received a silver medal, at the international competitions.

This year’s competition was organized by University College London and hosted by the American University in Bulgaria. It took place in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, from the 28th of July to the 3rd of August, 2019. The competition is planned for students completing their first, second, third or fourth year of university education with a maximum age of participants being 23 years of age at the time of the competition.

The individual competitions of the Universiade 2019 has yet to be decided. The Iranian fighters have so far collected 6 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze medals.

The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation.  The 30th Summer Universiade kicked off in the Naples, Italy on July 3 and will wrap up tomorrow July 14.
