US Unable to Stop Work at Iranian Nuclear Facilities

According To Iran News, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a news briefing on Thursday that the United States’ decision to end sanction waivers regarding Iranian nuclear facilities is unable to bring them to a halt.

“These new steps by the United States and their harmfulness are still to be assessed. From the practical standpoint the termination of these sanction waivers may slow down but by no means stop the implementation of the important reconfiguration projects that constitute the basis of the 2015 agreements,” Zakharova said.

She stressed that the pressure on Iran had highlighted the United States’ inability to effectively cope with complex tasks.

Such actions, she said, put ‘paid’ to Washington’s leadership ambitions “even within the Western community of allies.”

“The countries that participate in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action for the Iranian nuclear program stay in touch at all levels and they will continue to address all issues concerning the stable and all-round implementation of the JCPOA and the corresponding UN Security Council resolution,” she said.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is planning to have talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani later this month in New York following the reinstatement of sanctions against the Iran by the United States, a Japanese government source told Kyodo news agency on Sunday.

According to the Japanese leading news agency, the northeastern Asian country hopes to maintain ties with Iran, on which it depends for crude oil imports.

Japan has been asking for a waiver during negotiations with US but has faced difficulties in securing an exemption.

Iran is the sixth-largest exporter of crude oil to Japan, at around 5 percent of Japan’s imports.

Abe and Rouhani are also likely to discuss Japan’s economic cooperation with Iran, it said.

Separately, Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono is mulling visiting Iran around mid-October if he retains the ministerial post in a Cabinet reshuffle Abe would hold in early October, the source said.
