TEHRAN (Iran News)In a statement on Monday, Esmaeil Baqaei denounced the recurrent US and UK military aggression against Yemen while Washington and London have been providing unlimited support for the Israeli regime’s genocidal crimes in Gaza.

The spokesman decried the military strikes by the US and the UK -two permanent members of the UN Security Council- as a brazen violation of international principles and regulations and the UN Charter.

He also praised the Yemeni people’s solidarity with and honorable support for Palestine against the Zionist regime’s occupation and massacre.

Baqaei called on the international community and Islamic countries to fulfill their legal and moral duties to support the oppressed people of Yemen and oppose the American and British military aggression and destabilizing measures in West Asia.

TEHRAN (Iran News) Hamish Falconer, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan made the remarks on Monday as lawmakers repeatedly asked him to give a definitive answer on possible British action following the arrest warrants for Netanyahu Gallant issued by the Hague court.

Falconer said that there is a domestic legal process that must be followed to “determine whether to confirm and execute The Hague court’s ruling.”

He claimed that this has “never been tested” because no defendant named by the International Criminal Court has yet visited the UK.

Falconer stressed however that the British parliament has a common position on the rule of international law as an “important obligation” and that The Hague court is an important and main institution in the implementation of these norms, and the issues related to the jurisdiction of this court were examined

Falconer said that all the actions of the current British government will be “guided” by relying on international law.

The ICC has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and Gallant on charges of committing war crimes, crimes against humanity and using hunger (starving the people of Gaza) as a weapon against Palestinians.

Under the Rome Statute, all signatories are obligated to arrest the Zionist leaders and handed them to the ICC to face trial over the charges brought against them.

Iran slams EU, UK sanctions as ‘systematic’ human rights violations

TEHRAN (Iran News) In a statement released on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the EU and UK’s sanctions on several Iranian entities and individuals, including the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), are “unjustifiable, inconsistent with international law, and in violation of the EU and UK’s commitments under the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action).”

He said the EU and UK justify their sanctions by the “unfounded claim” that Iran supplied ballistic missiles to Russia, pointing out that even Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky himself had acknowledged that no Iranian ballistic missiles had been delivered to Russia.

Therefore, he reiterated that using this claim as a pretext for sanctions against Iran is “completely unjustifiable and lacks legitimacy or any legal or rational basis.”

“Freedom of navigation and maritime trade are fundamental principles of international maritime law, and accordingly, the international responsibility of the European parties for violations of international law is evident,” he added.

On Monday, the European Union announced new sanctions against Iran over its alleged support for Russia in the Ukraine war, including targeting vessels and ports it claimed were used to transfer drones and missiles to Russia.

Acting in parallel, the UK also announced fresh sanctions against the country, freezing the assets of IRISL as well as national airline Iran Air, charging that they were used for transporting ballistic missiles and military supplies to Russia for use in Ukraine.

Iran has repeatedly dismissed allegations of sending drones and missiles to Russia since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine.

TEHRAN (Iran News) In a post on his X account on Sunday, Esmaeil Baqaei said the UN Special Committee’s finding that Israel’s war on Gaza is genocide is no less than a reconfirmation of what has already been repeatedly said by other authoritative UN bodies, such as by United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories Francesca Albanese and warned by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“What is new though, is UK’s outrageous denial of an ongoing ostentatious genocide,” he said.

“In ‘Anatomy of a Genocide’ (March 2024), UN Special Rapporteur on Occupied Palestine stressed that ‘The Israeli genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza is an escalatory stage of a long-standing settler colonial process of erasure.’, and in ‘Genocide as Colonial Erasure’ (October 2024) she highlighted that ‘As the world watches the first live-streamed settler-colonial genocide, only justice can heal the wounds that political expedience has allowed to fester’,” Baqaei added.

“The UK foreign secretary’s denial of genocide in Gaza is simply in line with his government’s policy of persistent provision of lethal weapons and political support to the genocidal apartheid regime which makes UK complicit in the carnage and entails its international responsibility due to failure to abide by its international legal obligations under the Genocide Convention,” he stated.

“This acquiescence of genocide is extremely appalling and a reminiscent of deeply rooted colonial mentality that is dangerously coming to the fore in Europe through systemic anti-Palestinian racism and Islamophobia,” the spokesman said.

TEHRAN (Iran News) In a statement on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei roundly deplored the allegations made by the UK official, saying such hackneyed anti-Iran accusations have been leveled over the past two years without a shred of evidence or documentation.

His comments came after the head of Britain’s MI5 intelligence agency alleged that Iran has increased its number of “potentially lethal” plots on the UK soil.

MI5 director general Ken McCallum alleged that Britain was experiencing a staggering rise in assassination attempts and other crimes by Russia and Iran, with these countries allegedly recruiting criminals to “do their dirty work.”

In response, Baqaei pointed to the UK authorities’ recurrent use of the term “potential” about the fabricated accusations against Iran, saying the British security organizations’ allegations against Tehran are part of the policy of inventing fake enemies and diverting the public opinion’s attention from the UK government’s role in the unrelenting massacre of Palestinians and the Zionist regime’s warmongering policies in the region.

The Iranian spokesman also advised the UK officials to use their influence to stop the Israeli regime’s acts of aggression and crimes instead of leveling baseless accusations and raising misleading issues.

He also lashed out at London for hosting a series of notorious terrorist groups that abuse the concept of freedom of speech to promote violence, terrorism and hatred in a systematic manner.

Highlighting the legal responsibilities of all governments to counter terrorism and provocation of violence, Baqaei called on the UK to reconsider its “unconstructive policies” towards the Iranian people and the West Asia region.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash and India’s Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal signed the contract for partnership of the India Ports Global Ltd (IPGL) in equipping and operation of the freight and container terminals of Shahid Beheshti Port in Chabahar.

The signing of this contract is regarded as a turning point in bilateral and regional cooperation and facilitates strategic partnership between Iran and India, the website of Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development (MRUD) reported.

One of the major goals of concluding this contract, which was achieved as a result of the expert negotiations of joint task forces, is realizing the goals of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), the tripartite transit agreement of Iran, India and Afghanistan for international transit and transport through the Chabahar Port signed in 2016, and development of multimodal transit and transport cooperation between Iran and India in the Central Asian region within the framework of the strategic cooperation between India and Central Asia.

In addition, strengthening and facilitating transit cooperation between India and Afghanistan through Iran’s territory, developing the eastern parts of the Makran coasts, and developing regional cooperation between Iran, India and Russia for joint investments in the regional transport and transit infrastructure are among other goals of this contract.

As per this agreement, in order to equip and develop the Shahid Beheshti Port of Chabahar, Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) will hand over parts of the freight and container terminals of the Shahid Beheshti Port of Chabahar to India for 10 years while India invests $120 million for the supply of strategic equipment of the Port and $250 million on the transport infrastructures of Chabahar.

According to this contract, the parties are committed to fulfilling their obligations in facilitating transit along the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), developing shipping lines between the ports of the two countries and attracting container transit freights.

The Chabahar Port as an ocean port is located in the southeastern Province of Sistan and Balouchestan of Iran and is considered a crucial gateway for India to gain access to Afghanistan, Central Asia, and Russia bypassing Pakistan.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –In a statement on Saturday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani strongly condemned the sanctions the US, the UK and Canada have imposed on a number of natural and legal persons of the Iranian armed forces.

The spokesman also denounced the European Parliament’s resolution against Iran, taking a swipe at a few European countries for following the US government’s cruel policies.

He underlined that Iran’s military capacities are developed according to its needs in order to protect national security and interests, safeguard territorial integrity and sovereignty, and create legitimate and deterrent defense against foreign threats and acts of aggression.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is a major partner of the international community in providing regional and international peace and security and in fighting against international terrorism,” Kanaani said.

He stated that the sanctions against Iran’s defense sector could by no means erode the country’s determination to boost its power for defending its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests, but, contrary to the will of those imposing sanctions, will turn into an opportunity for the promotion of self-sufficiency as well as military and defense capabilities.

“Many nations and governments, specifically in the West Asia region, hold out no hope of the role of the US and its European allies in the establishment of stability and security in the region anymore,” the spokesman added.

His comments came after the UK, US and Canada on Thursday announced fresh sanctions on Iran following its retaliatory operation against Israeli military targets on April 14.

The three governments said they were targeting Iran’s drone and missile industries by hitting individuals and companies “closely involved” in Iran’s drone production.

In the meantime, the European Parliament on Thursday adopted a resolution condemning Iran’s drone and missile operation against the Israeli regime, in a vote of 357-20, and calling for further sanctions to be imposed on Iranian entities.

In a phone conversation, Hossein Amirabdollahian and David Cameron discussed the latest regional developments.

Amirabdollahian referred to the recent Iran’s missile and drone attacks on some specific targets in Israel, describing it as Iran’s legitimate defense with the aim of punishing the Israeli regime.

The raids followed Israel’s attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus that left seven Iranian military advisors dead.

The top Iranian diplomat said the crises in West Asia stem from the destructive role of the Israeli regime.

He further expressed surprise at the extent of support Britain gives to the crimes of the Zionist regime and its killing of children and innocent people in Gaza.

Amirabdollahian added it is surprising that while several thousand tons of bombs have been dropped on the oppressed people of Gaza in the past six months, Britain is worried about the response of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the brutal attack of the Israeli regime against the Iranian diplomatic mission in line with of the principle of legitimate defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

He also noted that Iran does not welcome an escalation in the region, but if the Israeli regime is looking for an act of adventurism, then Iran’s next response will be immediate, stronger and more extensive.

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, for his part, expressed concern over rising tensions in the region following Iran’s response to the Israeli regime’s “acts of aggression.”

He then spoke about the situation in Gaza, saying Britain worked round the clock during the recent debate on a UN Security Council resolution in order to establish a ceasefire in Gaza.

Cameron went on to say that Britain is making an effort to get the two sides to exchange their prisoners as well.

Cameron also added that the Iranian military action against Israel was so worrying and increased regional tension.

He said at the same time, London will ask Tel Aviv to not make any move as it does not want a repetition of what happened in a much wider manner.

“The United States and Britain proved once again that they are ardent supporters of the Zionist regime’s war crimes and genocide in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and prioritize commitment to the occupying and criminal Zionist regime’s security and illegitimate interests over international peace and security, and to that end, trample underfoot all moral and human principles as well as international rules and the UN Charter,” he explained.

“With such strikes, the US and Britain seek to stoke tension and crises in the region, spread war and instability, deflect public opinion from the Zionist regime’s war crimes and buy time for the perpetuation of the war crimes by this regime, which is accused of genocide,” the spokesman noted.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Research shows leaders in the United States and United Kingdom are on edge over their handling of the Israeli war on the totally besieged Gaza Strip.

Amid a critical election in both the U.S. and Britain this year, it appears Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has passed on personal problems to his staunchest Western allies.

A new poll has found that support for President Joe Biden’s handling of the Israeli war on Gaza is declining.

The survey shows that only 31 percent of American adults approve of Biden’s handling of the war, including just 46 percent of Democrats, according to the poll from The Associated Press- NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

Notably, about 70 percent of Democrats aged under 45 disapprove of the U.S. President’s approach toward the Israeli war in Gaza.

Half of American adults now believe the Israeli regime has “gone too far” in its war on the Gaza Strip. That is up from 40 percent in the same poll in November.

The poll was conducted from 25-28 January, which overlaps with the deaths of three U.S. soldiers in a drone strike in Jordan.

The poll shows growing disapproval among Republican voters, with 33 percent saying Israel’s military response has gone too far. That is up from 18 percent in November.

52 percent of independents share that view, up from 39 percent.

The figure stands at 62 percent of Democrats, nearly the same majority as in November.

In Britain, the winner of this year’s elections was widely believed to be the opposition Labour leader Keir Starmer.

Surveys had put Starmer and his Labour party strongly in the lead over Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Conservative party‌, which has been plagued with one scandal after the other. About 20 percent of British voters have viewed Sunak favorably, according to a YouGov poll.

However, a revelation by the slightly left-wing Guardian newspaper this week indicates Labour may have lost the Muslim vote in Britain. A key vote that the party had expected to rely on to take seats in key constituencies that tend to be won by the Conservatives.

One senior Labour MP told the newspaper that “Muslims are not only predominantly Labour supporters but they are also geographically important. There are many of them in a range of key target seats in both the south and the north-west”.

Another said: “We know we’ve lost the Muslim vote and at the very least their trust. The Muslim community is no longer a safe voter base for us because of how we initially responded to the war. So we’re just focused on damage control. We all know it.”

Starmer has angered many Muslim voters with his refusal to back calls for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Concerns are also mounting that non-Muslim voters, also angry about Britain’s policy toward the Israeli war on Gaza, could leave both Labour and the Conservatives embarrassed at the ballot boxes.

Predominantly white regions of England, such as Bournemouth, Bristol and Brighton, where many voters also feel strongly about the Palestinian struggle for freedom is another matter being taken into consideration.

Reports say Labour is taking desperate measures to address fears that Muslims will not vote for the party over its stance on Gaza, but these measures may have come too late.

Reports have surfaced of growing support for the Liberal Democrats and Green party since the Israeli regime waged its war on Gaza. Both parties have been calling for an immediate ceasefire.

The U.S. and Britain have stepped up their staunch support for the Israeli regime both militarily and diplomatically since Hamas launched Operation al-Aqsa Storm on 7 October.

However, global support for the regime has diminished as the Palestinian death toll in the ensuing Israeli war on Gaza passes 27,000, the majority of whom are women and children.

This has been reflected at the United Nations, where the U.S. and Britain have blocked emergency measures to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, despite warnings by the UN of a looming famine in the enclave.
