Trump’s Re-Election Clear as Mud

Brutal assassination of Quds Forces Commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and his comrades has inflicted such a disaster that no other U.S. President had experienced it before. There is no media in the world or even in all 52 states of the U.S. which has not criticized or derided Trump’s decision to assassinate Martyr Soleimani.

IRAN NEWS POLITICAL DESK

Since January 3 when this crime happened at Baghdad Airport till now, this criticism and derision have continued and it is estimated over one billion critical and derisive items have been published or gone viral in the media or in the virtual media in forms of article, interview, tweets, clips or SMS.

During his presidential campaigns, Trump had promised not to drag the U.S. into any war but with this unwise act which was led and announced by him, he wanted to have a winning card for his upcoming election but the world people by honoring and commemorating Martyr Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and their comrades made a hell out of it, and rain of retaliatory missiles on Ain-Assad Airbase from Friday till Wednesday made not only the White House but also the whole world hegemony tremble.

Some comic and satirical programs against Trump which were made are indicator of Americans’ fear. That Americans like cowboys try to dictate on the whole world whatever strikes their minds is a bad sign. Global scene has turned into an anarchic scene. Of course it does not mean that there is no order or patterned behavior in the international structure but it means these laws are not administered under a real system and without domination of world powers which did not respect international interests of humans on the earth and they rule the world. So powerful countries can easily use threat and war as tools for their foreign policies and attack at one or more countries, and there is no body powerful enough to protect political and legal interests of all the world in order to protect countries from the anarchic shadow of economic and military powers.

So it is crystal clear that in such a world, whatever a country becomes stronger in terms of military regarding to other countries, it will boost security, pride, aggression and threat. So although it is painful, we should accept that to save the international scene from moving towards anarchy, the only guarantee for its materialization is to have enough power to defend itself and to respond to attacks and this is the only solution that countries can defend themselves against aggressions with appropriate responses.

The IRGC’s slap and the kind of the Americans’ reaction once again proved that relations are defined in the world based on power and not the diplomacy because ruling laws for diplomacy, international agreements and even conventions all follow the system of power and not international agreements.

It is crystal clear that in the past years, pro-West officials in the Islamic Republic of Iran’s administrative and legislative branches with employing clandestine methods refrained from confessing that to administering the country there is no way but to be solved in the big powers and they claimed they know the language of the world and the result of their management was nothing but to accept colonialist and loss-making agreements like the JCPOA and FATF.

But this tragic and painful event which led to the martyrdom of national hero of Iran, reaction of Iranian nation for revenge, brave reaction of the IRGC to the U.S., and Trump’s mean reaction has proved what is ruling on the international relations. Today the U.S. seems more disabled than ever in the eyes of the nations and it seems the 2020 U.S. presidential election would be fully eclipsed by this event.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Democrats unveiled two impeachment charges Tuesday against US President Donald Trump after weeks of arguing there is overwhelming evidence that the US leader abused his office and deserves to be removed.

If the two impeachment charges – abuse of power and obstruction of Congress – are approved by the full House of Representatives in a vote expected next week, it would put Trump in the historic position of being the third US leader ever impeached and placed on trial in the Senate, AFP reported.

“Our president holds the ultimate public trust,” said House Judiciary Committee Jerry Nadler.

“When he betrays that trust and puts himself before country, he endangers the constitution, he endangers our democracy and he endangers our national security.”

Nadler, in a solemn and deeply serious moment for the nation, was joined by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the US Capitol to lay out the charges facing Trump.

The president is alleged to have wielded the power of the presidency for personal and political gain by pressuring Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 US election.

His accusers say he conditioned vital military aid and a much-sought White House meeting on Kyiv announcing it would investigate Democratic former vice president Joe Biden, who is the frontrunner to challenge Trump in the 2020 election.

He also pressed his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky to probe a debunked Kremlin conspiracy theory that it was Kyiv and not Moscow, that interfered in the 2016 US election.

The charges also focus on Trump’s efforts to block Congress from fully investigating his actions – which Democrats see as a violation of its constitutional right to conduct oversight of the executive branch.

“The evidence of the president’s misconduct is overwhelming and uncontested,” said House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, who oversaw weeks of public hearings in which witnesses including Trump administration officials and US diplomats testified about the pressure on Ukraine.

“To do nothing would make ourselves complicit in the president’s abuse of his high office,” Schiff said, adding that Trump’s “misconduct goes to the heart of whether we can conduct a free and fair election in 2020.”

Trump, who has long assailed the Democrats for pursuing impeachment, maintained his fighting posture early Tuesday, tweeting that the effort to oust him as “sheer Political Madness!”

Trump’s Impeachment Vote to Be Held Thursday

According To Iran News, Democrats in Congress, answering Republican complaints that their impeachment investigation of US President Donald Trump is being conducted in secret, plan a vote on Thursday on how to make their inquiry public, a significant new stage in the probe.

Trump and his fellow Republicans have for weeks branded the work of committees probing Trump’s overtures to Ukraine as illegitimate, arguing the full Democratic-led House of Representatives had failed to authorize their investigations in a public vote.

Meeting behind closed doors, the House Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Oversight committees have been looking into the possibility that Trump violated federal law by seeking foreign help for his November 2020 re-election efforts.

House Rules Committee Chairman James McGovern said on Monday, “I will be introducing a resolution to ensure transparency and provide a clear path forward.”

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff said in a statement the legislation would establish a format for open hearings. The US Constitution gives the House broad authority to set ground rules for an impeachment inquiry and Democrats say they are following House rules on investigations.

Several administration officials, including a former deputy national security adviser on Monday, have failed to testify to House committees engaged in the probe.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a letter to her fellow House Democrats the House will vote this week – on Thursday, according to a senior Democratic aide – on a resolution that spells out how future public hearings will be held, Reuters reported.

Pelosi promised to provide legal protections for Trump.

A source familiar with the probe said the public hearings will be held by the Intelligence Committee and that the transcripts from closed depositions with witnesses will be made public. A senior House Democratic aide said the hearings could begin within the next month.

The measure will set the stage for House investigating committees to forward evidence they have collected to the House Judiciary Committee, which would then decide whether to advance articles of impeachment against Trump.

Even if the House impeaches Trump, he would face a trial in the Republican-controlled Senate, which for the moment seems unlikely to convict the president and force his ouster.

Impeachment requires a simple majority in the 435-member House but conviction demands the support of a two-thirds majority in the 100-member Senate.

Charles Kupperman, a former deputy to ousted national security adviser John Bolton, failed to appear earlier on Monday before the three House panels conducting the Ukraine phase of the Democratic-led impeachment inquiry, lawmakers said.

Other panels are probing separate issues, including Trump’s finances and abuses of White House security clearances.

Kupperman put off testifying while asking a court to rule on whether he should comply with a congressional subpoena or honor the Trump administration’s order not to testify, his lawyers said last week.

Democrats in turn said they would not let further legal maneuverings delay their work.

At least nine others have testified despite being instructed by the White House not to do so, Schiff said.

Kupperman was expected to provide testimony about Trump’s dealings with Ukraine brought to Congress’ attention by a report from a whistleblower about a July 25 telephone call between the US president and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

Trump’s request to Zelenskiy that he investigate former US Vice President Joe Biden, a leading candidate for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, and his son Hunter Biden, who had served on the board of a Ukrainian gas company, is the focus of the inquiry being conducted by the three panels.

Trump made his request after withholding $391 million in security aid approved by the US Congress to help fight Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine.

A separate White House official, Alexander Vindman, a lieutenant colonel who sits on the National Security Council and who listened in on the call, is expected to tell lawmakers in a closed-door hearing on Tuesday that the conversation alarmed him so much that he raised concerns with an NSC lawyer.

But Trump again dismissed the inquiry in comments to reporters.

“I had a great conversation with the Ukrainian president. I had another with him also, I think before that, which was the same thing, it was nothing. They tried to take that conversation and make it into a big scandal,” Trump said on Monday.

Schiff noted that a federal judge had validated the legality of the Democratic-led impeachment inquiry in a decision about releasing information regarding a separate investigation, into Russian election interference in 2016, to Congress and that all witnesses need to come forward when called.

The Trump administration appealed that ruling on Monday.
