The gala premiere was scheduled to be organized at the Kurosh Cineplex on Sunday.

The producers said that the opening ceremony budget will be allocated to screening the film in the deprived cities in the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan, “which experienced the hardest days during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.”

Directed by Bahram Tavakkoli, “The Lost Strait” is based on a true story, which recounts an epic battle by Iran’s Ammar Battalion during the last days of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.

In a statement published several days ago, some stars of the film cast recommended that the country’s officials watch the film to remember the sacrifice and honesty of the war commanders, and observe the meaningful differences between the managers of today Iran with those war veterans.

“The Lost Strait”, which was the big winner at the 36th Fajr Film Festival last year with six awards, is scheduled to hit silver screens on August 8.

The awards are presented to those films that promote issues being pursued by some public organizations and institutes. Juries from the organization select winners from the films screened at the Fajr Film Festival.

The Iran Water Resources Management Company, Iran Insurance Company, Cinema Organization of Iran, Iran National Carpet Center and several other organizations held the National Will Manifestation Awards ceremony at the Rex Cinema in the southwestern Iranian city of Abadan.

The Iran Water Resources Management Company honored Javad Ezzati and Hamid Azarang with its first and second best awards. In addition, Tavakkoli won the fourth award of the company.

The Iran Insurance Company also presented its second best award to “The Lost Strait” producer Saeid Malekan.

“Iran’s Lady Qods”, a documentary by Mostafa Razzaq-Karimi about Khadijeh Saqafi, the wife of Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, received the first best award from the Cinema Organization of Iran.

The organization gave its second and third best awards to producer Hamed Jafari and director Hadi Mohammadian for their animated movie, “The Elephant King”.

The organization’s fourth best award went to “Women with Gunpowder Earrings”, a documentary by Reza Farahmand about Nur, a female journalist who covers stories about Syrian and Iraqi women and children in the war against the Daesh terrorists.

“The events are so remarkable that no film can depict them entirely,” he noted during a press conference after a screening of his movie at the 36th Fajr Film Festival on Wednesday.

Starring Javad Ezzati, Amir Jadidi and Hamidreza Azarang, the film shows how Iran’s Ammar battalion fought against the Iraqi soldiers in an unequal battle to hold the Abu Ghuraib Strait.

The story is set in the last days of the war just before Iran accepted UN Resolution 598, which ended hostilities on July 20, 1988.

“The screenplay was written based on intensive fieldwork and interviews. The film only covers one and a half days of the battle,” Tavakkoli said.

Producer Saeid Malekan said that “The Lost Strait” is the outcome of “a top team” and added, “There was a general consensus in the team that today, our society needs such a film.”

“This strait is the symbol of many things such as national unity, which we should try to protect,” he stated.

He said that Iranian younger generation is the target audience of the film.

Actor Mehdi Pakdel said, “At a public screening of the film, a young woman told me that, after watching the film, she has accepted the war as part of her national identity.”

He added, “My colleagues and I engaged in a real war in ‘The Lost Strait’ not mere acting.”

The film produced at the Owj Arts and Media Organization, a Tehran-based institution producing revolutionary works in art and cinema, has won received great acclaim from cineastes and critics attending the festival.

Tavakkoli called Malekan “an artist producer” and added, “Engagement of an artist producer causes the quality of a film to be raised to such an extent.”
