TEHRAN (Iran News) Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani, strongly condemned the terrorist attack on people welcoming pilgrims returning from Iraq’s Karbala in a region between the Daikundi and Ghor provinces of central Afghanistan.

In a statement on Friday, Kanaani expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

He urged authorities to take immediate action to bring the perpetrators of the crime to justice.

The Khurasan branch of the ISIS terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place in the “Kariyo Dal” area between Daikundi and Ghor provinces.

Reports confirmed the death of 14 people, with four others wounded in the assault.

According to some sources, the militant stopped a bus carrying locals under the pretense of taking photos of pilgrims before opening fire on the passengers.

In a statement after deadly explosions in Sri Lanka, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi vehemently condemned the terror attacks, particularly those targeting churches, and expressed sympathy with the Sri Lankan government, nation, and families of the victims.

“Today’s crime once again proved that the despicable phenomenon of terrorism has turned into a global problem, regardless of any border, race, nation and faith,” the spokesperson said.

Mousavi stressed the need for steely determination of all countries in the fight against terrorism by using all capacities and avoiding double standards.

A total of eight explosions in a single day hit luxury hotels and churches in Sri Lanka, killing at least 156 people and wounding over 400 as worshippers were attending Easter Sunday services.

The explosions, some of which officials said were suicide bomb attacks, led to an immediate clampdown, with the government declaring a curfew and blocking access to most major social media and messaging sites.

The first six explosions were all reported within a short period in the morning just as church services were starting.

Nine foreigners were among the dead, officials said.

Early in the afternoon, police reported there had been two more explosions.

There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the attacks in a country which was at war for decades with Tamil separatists until 2009 during which bomb blasts in the capital were common.

Christian groups say they have faced increasing intimidation from some extremist Buddhist monks in recent years.

In a spate of terrorist attacks across war-torn Afghanistan in past few days, more than 30 people have been killed, according to reports.

The wave of violence has swept across Kabul, Kunduz, and Kandahar provinces, Afghan officials said, as Taliban scales up its deadly operations across the country.

At least four security personnel and eight civilians, including two women and a child, were killed on Tuesday in a suicide car bombing by the Taliban in Kabul.
The attack took place when a suicide bomber detonated explosives in Kabul’s Paghman district, Interior Ministry spokesperson Najib Danish said. The attacker was also killed in the bombing.

Meanwhile, at least 10 police officers were killed and 11 others wounded in a three-hour attack by Taliban militants on a checkpoint in northern Kunduz Province, provincial council member officials were quoted saying.

In southern Kandahar province, Taliban fighters stormed a checkpoint in Arghistan district, killing eight officers, a spokesman for the provincial governor was quoted saying. At least 11 insurgents were also reportedly killed in the fighting.

Taliban militants have stepped up attacks on Afghan security forces and government facilities in recent months, even as the group is engaged in so-called ‘peace talks’ with the U.S. and Russia.

Although Afghan authorities do not reveal casualty toll of its personnel, according to the UN mission in Afghanistan, Afghan forces have suffered record number of casualties between May and October 2018 compared to previous years.

“We did take you seriously. This Hajizadeh [the IRGC Airspace commander] took you seriously when he landed missiles three miles away from you,” Iranian Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani said on Tuesday, addressing Trump’s national security advisor John Bolton.

Addressing a veterans’ conference in Tehran, Shamkhani was referring to the IRGC’s missile attacks on Daesh positions in Syria two nights earlier.

A few days earlier, Bolton had warned Iran over any move against its forces in Syria. “I might imagine they would take me seriously when I assure them today that if you cross us, our allies or our partners, if you harm our citizens, if you continue to lie, cheat and deceive. Yes, there will indeed be hell to pay,” Bolton had said.

“He is bullying, that guy with mustaches, Bolton. Yes, ‘Boloton’. It would be better to say ‘Bulletin’, because he keeps talking, saying ‘Take us seriously!’” Shamkhani said sarcastically.

He went on to ask: “What is Daesh doing just three miles away from you? You [to audience] are all military men. Is it possible that two opposing groups be as close as 3 miles without a fight?”

“We defeated America with the Revolution. We defeated America by defeating Saddam. By pursuing the revolution over 40 years we defeated America. Today the most evil Americans are ruling America. This is an opportunity for us to defeat this last-generation, evil American and turn ourselves into an unrivaled power, and that is possible.”

TEHRAN- Police have arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of planning to use an automatic rifle for a mass shooting on New Year’s Eve in downtown Melbourne, Australia’s second largest city.

Victoria state police said on Tuesday that the man was acting alone and had not been able to acquire a firearm before his arrest late on Monday, Reuters reported.

Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Shane Patton said the man, an Australian citizen with Somalian parents, had been monitored by authorities since the beginning of the year.

“He’s accessed documents produced by al-Qaeda Arabian Peninsula which is a guide book in respect to how to commit a terrorist act and also how to use firearms, guns and handguns and rifles,” Patton said at a press conference in Melbourne.

The man had planned to shoot as many people as possible at Melbourne’s Federation Square, which swells with crowds on New Year’s Eve as the focus of the city’s celebrations, Patton said.

Australia, a staunch US ally that sent troops to Afghanistan and Iraq, has been on heightened alert since 2014 for attacks by homegrown militants returning from fighting in the Middle East or their supporters.

A gunman in a deadly 2014 Sydney cafe siege boasted about links with Daesh militants, although no direct ties with the group were established. The shooting murder of a police accountant by a 15-year old boy in 2016 was claimed by Daesh.

Around a dozen significant plots have been foiled since the alert was issued, according to officials, including a plot to attack prominent sites in Melbourne last Christmas Eve and a plan to blow up an Etihad Airways flight from Sydney to Abu Dhabi using a bomb disguised as a meat mincer.

TEHRAN – Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement strongly condemned Friday’s terrorist attack that rocked a mosque in Arish city in Egypt’s North Sinai region and killed or wounded hundreds of worshippers.

In a statement released on Friday, Hezbollah offered deep condolences to the victims’ families as well as the Egyptian government and people and voiced hope for speedy recovery of the injured, the Arabic-language Al-Manar TV network reported.

Hezbollah’s statement said the “horrific crime which has violated the sanctity of the human life … is an outcome of the Wahhabi and Takfiri thought which sees all Muslims who do not approve of its principles as disbelievers that deserve to be murdered even if they are at mosques.”

It added that such terror attacks are aimed at spreading horror, instability and anarchy across the Arab and the Muslim world.

“The horrible crime also discloses the identity of the perpetrators who believe in criminality, not in law and religion.”

Hezbollah reiterated its call for serious confrontation with terrorist groups and states that support them politically, financially, and ideologically in order to reach their malicious purposes.

At least 300 people were reportedly killed and 109 injured when terrorists attacked the Rawda mosque in North Sinai on Friday.

Reports indicate the terrorists used explosives and heavy weaponry in their attack on the mosque.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi announced three days of nationwide mourning following the deaths of people in the attack.
