West’s Call for Self-Restraint Means Green Light for More Terrors

IRAN NEWS NATIONAL DESK

TEHRAN – Iran Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi says Western countries are showing green light for the continuation of terror when they call for self-restraint.

“Westerners who call for restraint in the face of terror are actually showing green light to terrorists,” he said in a local judicial event on Monday.

The remarks come as European countries have called on Iran to show ‘self-restraint’ in response to the assassination of Iranian top scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh on Friday.

Raisi also urged related military, judicial, and security officials to form a special task force to identify and prosecute those behind the assassination.

Naming Fakhrizadeh as the ‘hero’ of ‘nullifying sanctions and threats’ in defense and nuclear fields, Raisi said “Experience shows that to counter sanctions and terror, one should only become stronger.”

The logic of ‘producing power’ has become the mindset of Iranian youth in different fields, he said, adding that one should not neglect to adopt deterrent measures against the enemy as “it only understands the language of power.”

Sanction and terror are two sides of the same coin and it is a mistake to pin hope on the lifting of sanctions through negotiation, he added.

Speaking at a meeting of the Judiciary’s High Council on Monday, Raeisi ordered the country’s prosecutor general to set up a special task force in cooperation with the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, the Armed Force’s Judicial Organization, and the security and intelligence organizations in order to prosecute the people who ordered and perpetrated the assassination attack on Fakhrizadeh.

The top judge also urged the Iranian security and intelligence forces to immediately detect and disband the “infiltration network” across the country and take action against the insiders sending signals to the enemies.

Paying tribute to Fakhrizadeh as the hero of “nullifying the sanctions and threats” in the nuclear and defense industries, Raeisi emphasized the need for strong “preventive measures” because “the enemy knows only the logic of force.”

“Sanctions and assassination are two sides of the same coin. The Westerners that appeal for (Iran to exercise) self-restraint vis-a-vis assassination are in fact giving terrorists the green light,” he added.

The Judiciary chief went on to say that it would be a mistake to hope for a removal of sanctions through negotiations.

Meanwhile yesterday in a ceremony, akhrizadeh was laid to rest three days after his assassination outside Tehran, with the country’s defense minister pledging to continue his work “with more speed and more power.”

He was buried at Imamzadeh Saleh mosque in Tajrish in northern Tehran’s Shemiran district on Monday after a detailed funeral ceremony was held in the morning.

The cortege began at the Ministry of Defense in east Tehran, with top state and military officials on hand to pay their respect to a man who played a leading role in bolstering Iran’s defense power and advancing its nuclear energy program.

An honor guard carried the casket containing his remains which reportedly received three shots during an ambush in a boulevard in Absard where assailants blew up an explosives-laden Nissan truck before targeting him and his security detail in a hail of bullets.

The president made the remark at Mehrabad Airport before departing for New York to take part at the UN General Assembly meeting.

Talking about the Saturday’s terrorist attack in Ahvaz, President Rouhani said the Islamic Republic will give a crushing response to that heinous act within the legal framework and according to the country’s best interests.

He vowed that all that would be arrested in connection with the terrorist attackwould receive their due punishment.

“It is perfectly clear to us who were behind the attack and what their affiliation is,” Rouhani said. “Those who keep repeating their bogus stance on advocating human rights must be held accountable; all those small mercenary countries in the region which US backs and provokes.”

Rouhani then talked about his trip to New York, saying that taking part at the UN General Assembly meeting is an opportunity for any country to express its views on various regional and international issues.

He said he would talk in length about the current US administration’s attitude which is reared toward unilateralism combined with an extreme sense of nationalism.

Rouhani added that he would discuss the numerous instances of US’ violations of international law during his address to the UNGA’s session, interviews and bilateral meetings.

The topic of the Iran nuclear deal will also be brought up, Rouhani said, voicing hope that the country would be able to overcome the US unilateral and unlawful sanctions with the least amount of loss.

We will make the US regret its meddling in and aggression toward other countries, particularly Iran, Rouhani promised.

In a statement on Sunday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi forwarded Iran’s strong protests against the issuing of such politically-motivated judgments based on unfounded accusations already raised in the past.

A judge in the US has issued a default judgement requiring Iran to pay more than $6 billion to victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The order comes in absence of any evidence of Iran’s involvement, as well as any chance given to the country to contest the case in court. Meanwhile, with 15 of the 19 hijackers of Saudi nationality, Saudi Arabia remains the main target of US citizens looking for damages in relation to the attacks.

“The court order is unacceptable and rejected,” Ghasemi said. “Not only is it a mockery of the international law system but it is also a mockery at the expense of American people, particularly the victims and the bereaved families of the September 11 attacks.”

Ghasemi went on to add, “the devisers of such political games have been making futile attempts to distort the process of prosecution and its outcome in a fictitious way and by reversing the facts.”

“They are trying to rewrite history by actions that are even against the process inside the United States and the main culprits of this terrorist attack, but they will definitely fail to achieve their objectives,” he said.

The Iranian diplomat deemed such court orders an explicit violation of the rules and procedures accepted by international law, which are based on the necessity of observing the immunity of sovereign governments.

“The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves all rights to oppose this illegal procedure,” he stressed.

“I am very happy that I am meeting an Iraqi minister in Baghdad at a time that the economic, security, and social status of Iraq is growing after the eradication of the ISIL,” said Brigadier General Amir Hatami, Iranian Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistical Support, on Wednesday.

The Iranian senior official made the remarks while meeting with Iraqi Minister of Communications Hassan Kazem Al-Rashed.

“The people of Iraq have endured many difficulties and pains in the last couple of years in war against Takfirist and terrorist groups,” added the Iranian minister of defense.

“We are grateful to God for the more stable situation of Iraq of today as the terrorist group of ISIL has practically lost the occupied territories and been defeated in Iraq completely,” highlighted Brig. Gen. Hatami.

“The era of war against the ISIL was a historic age of lessons as Iran and Iraq both identified their real friends and enemies and the fake proponents of fighting the ISIL were exposed,” he asserted.

“While many government called for war on terror at the time of ISIL crisis in Iraq, practically many of those were abusing terrorist to reach their own goals and they supported them,” reiterated the defense minister.

He underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran is honest in its resolute determination to help and support the people of Iraq and Syria and added, “Unfortunately, some are launching psychological warfare with the aim to spread Iranophobia and Shiaphobia in the region but the realities of the region demonstrated that they are total lies and the Islamic Republic of Iran is benevolent ion its call for the wronged people of the region.”

“We are after reconstructing Iraq as the continuation of the path to bolster and improve the power of Iraq in war against terrorism and being along with the Iraqi nation and government is a part of our faith and belief,” he maintained.

The Iraqi minister, for his part, voiced hope that as Iran has been very supportive of Iraq in the time to fight against terrorism, to be strongly in support of Iraqis in the time of re-constructing Iraq.

Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said Sunday that police and security forces have sufficient intelligence to identify and confront the terrorist cells which plan to cross into the Iranian territories to carry out attacks.

Asked about the details of the latest security operation against terrorist cells, Rahmani Fazli said IRGC forces in cooperation with the Ministry of Intelligence clashed on Saturday with a terrorist cell which planned to cross into Iran. During the operation, some 16 terrorists were captured, one killed, and four others currently being pursued by the security forces.

Rahmani Fazli added that three security forces were martyred during the operation.

“In general, good cooperation between the public, border guards and security forces, and the constant surveillance by the Intelligence Ministry, have allowed us to identify terrorist cells and dismantle them before they could carry out any attacks on the Iranian soil,” he said.

Rahmani Fazli highlighted the importance of intelligence provided by the people, asking the public to report any suspicious activity to relevant bodies, particularly the Ministry of Intelligence, so that the threats against the country would be neutralized in time.

“Thanks God…, we are witnessing remarkable successes of the resistance front and the shrine defenders against the terrorist groups,” Major General Baqeri said, addressing a gathering of Iranian military advisers and resistance front forces in Syria’s northern city of Aleppo.

The advances and victories of the resistance front forces are continuing and the lives of the terrorist Takfiri groups have reached their end, he noted.

The commander also described the coordination among the Syrian army, people, and the resistance forces as “exemplary” and stressed the need to continue the close cooperation.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, the top Iranian general has traveled to Syria to broaden defense and military cooperation with the Arab country and promote cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (ISIL), controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.

Throughout these years, Iran has remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of foreign-backed militancy.
