Moscow has noted reports indicating the escalation of tensions in the disputed region and acknowledged evidence that there have been casualties as a result of the latest outbreak of violence, the ministry said, Sputnik reported.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – China announced an initiative on Tuesday to establish global standards on data security, saying it wanted to promote multilateralism in the area at a time when “individual countries” were “bullying” others and “hunting” companies.

The announcement, by State Councilor Wang Yi, comes a month after the United States said it was purging “untrusted” Chinese apps under a program dubbed “Clean Network”.

China’s initiative calls for technology firms to prevent the creation of so-called backdoors in their products and services that could allow data to be obtained illegally, as well as for participants to respect the sovereignty, jurisdiction and data management rights of other countries.

It also calls for participants to not engage in large-scale surveillance of other countries or illegally acquire information of foreign citizens through information technology.

It did not detail the nature of the initiative or say whether any other country had joined.

“Global data security rules that reflect the wishes of all countries and respect the interests of all parties should be reached on the basis of universal participation by all parties,” Wang said, Reuters reported.

“Some individual countries are aggressively pursuing unilateralism, throwing dirty water on other countries under the pretext of ‘cleanliness’, and conducting global hunts on leading companies of other countries under the pretext of security. This is naked bullying and should be opposed and rejected.”

China tightly controls and censors its own cyberspace through the popularly dubbed Great Firewall, which has for years restricted access to firms such as US majors Twitter Inc, Facebook Inc and Google owner Alphabet Inc.

The administration of US President Donald Trump has taken aim at Chinese giants such as Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, Tencent Holdings Ltd and TikTok owner ByteDance, citing concerns over national security and the collection of personal data, which the companies have rejected.

It has blocked US exports to Huawei and plans to ban TikTok in the United States this month unless ByteDance sells TikTok’s US operations.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s government spokesman Ali Rabiei said Tuesday that US President Donald Trump had four years during his tenure to initiate diplomacy with the Islamic Republic, but he failed to grasp the opportunity and instead directed the White House to make “the worst of mistakes” in dealing with Tehran.

Rabiei made the remarks in response to Trump, who recently told his supporters at a campaign fundraiser that he would reach a deal with Iran “within four weeks” if he is re-elected in November’s election, Press TV reported.

The official dismissed Trump’s claims as a mere ploy to draw more votes, adding that the US president, if re-elected, “will not succeed in striking an agreement as long as he continues the policy of pressure against Iran.”

“Mr. Trump had four years’ time to start successful diplomacy with Iran by choosing the right, agreed upon and legal path. Not only did he fail to do so, but he also made the worst mistakes of America in decades,” Rabiei said.

America’s Iran policy took a highly belligerent turn under Trump, who has overseen a campaign of “maximum” economic pressure accompanied by military provocations.

The US unleashed the “toughest ever” sanctions against Iran in 2018, when the Trump administration scrapped the 2015 nuclear agreement.

Trump also pushed Tehran and Washington to the brink of an all-out war by ordering the assassination of Iran’s Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani while the top commander was on an official visit to Iraq in January.

Rabiei further said Iran stands ready to keep up “maximum resistance” for as long as necessary if the US refuses to stop its hostilities.

The spokesman was also asked about the recent US push to extend a UN arms embargo on Iran that is due to expire on October 18. The lifting of the ban is part of the JCPOA, which was endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

Rabiei warned that the US is exploiting the UNSC mechanism to undermine multilateralism and international institutions.

He voiced Iran’s readiness to “deliver a proportionate and decisive response to any provocative and illegal action. Any resolution in violation of UNSC Resolution 2231 is unacceptable and is a mockery of international law,” he said.

The spokesman further emphasized that Washington had forfeited its right to have a say in the JCPOA.

“The US has withdrawn from the JCPOA and has no right either to the text of the agreement or the UNSC Resolution until it fully returns to it and fulfills all its obligations,” he pointed out.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani highlighted the country’s resolve to ensure full stability across the region, saying while Tehran has fully honored its commitments, the US is pushing for new plots.

In a telephone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on Saturday, Rouhani said Iran is resolved to establish full stability in the region and honors all of its commitments in this regard.

“However, the US is, unfortunately, sending wrong signals and messages by attempting to hatch new plots against Iran (including by recently) harassing our country’s passenger plane,” he added.

The president also congratulated the Iraqi nation on Eid al-Adha and described al-Kadhimi’s recent visit to Tehran as constructive. “The visit and the agreements reached during it are positive developments and will create a step forward in the relations between the two countries.”

“The beginning of the construction of the railway route between Iran and Iraq will be a hope for the two nations and a beginning for creating a new and serious momentum in further developing the bilateral interactions,” Rouhani said, according to the president’s official website.

Iran welcomes Iraq’s leading role in the sensitive situation in the region, he added.

In turn, the Iraqi prime minister congratulated Rouhani on Eid al-Adha, saying, “Certainly, thanks to your support and the serious and sincere cooperation of the officials of the two countries, the relations between the two sides can be quickly upgraded to an excellent level, by which we can establish a new constructive and positive cooperation and interaction between Iran and Iraq.”

Al-Kadhimi also stated that immediately after returning from the visit to Iran, he has formed committees to implement the agreements and joint projects with Iran.

“The Iraqi authorities are determined to remove all obstacles and problems in the path to the development of relations with Iran and we are interested in starting the activity of the Iran-Iraq railway project as soon as possible as a symbol and model for the development of relations between the two countries,” he said.

“Iraq’s key policy is to reduce tensions and increase stability in the region, and we seek to play a positive role in this regard with the cooperation and support of our brothers in Iran,” al-Kadhimi added.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Spokesman of the Iranian government Ali Rabiei said that the US “must stop its illegal and unacceptable behavior before it is too late.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will not be a spectator of America’s provocations,” Rabiei said while reacting to the US warplanes’ fly-by of an Iranian civilian airliner over Syria on July 23, IRNA reported.

Noting that Iran has sent a report and a complaint to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) about the US fighter jets’ dangerous maneuvering close to Mahan Air’s Flight 1152, Rabiei said ”Tehran is simultaneously examining all other legal options.”

Two US F-15 warplanes conducted a dangerous maneuvering close to the Iranian airliner en route to Beirut. The incident took place over Syria’s al-Tanf region, where the US has a military base.

The airliner’s pilot had to swiftly lower the altitude to avoid a collision with the American warplanes.

The sudden swerve led to the injuries of some of the passengers and left them panicked. The flight, however, landed safely in the Lebanese capital and the wounded were taken to hospital.

“The US is not committed to the aviation laws and regulations,” Rabiei said noting that the responsibility of any upcoming incident that will endanger the lives of civilians of the passenger planes will fall on US and the Americans should be waiting for the consequences.

The US government has long been unable to hear the viewpoints of American experts and failed to realize Iran’s realities, Rabiei further noted.

He said though the US maximum pressure policy has failed, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo continues to provide false information to the US president.

“Pompeo is determined to deceive his boss and this is what John Bolton had been doing for one year,” Rabiei said.

Noting that Iran does not care about policies of the US political parties or its domestic policies, Rabiei said Iran considers US as a state that has international responsibilities.

“Washington must comply with its obligations and behave like a member of the international community,” Rabiei stressed.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Former representative of Iran to the United Nations said that Iran-China’s cooperation is strategic, and the US has failed to isolate Iran.

Referring to the various dimensions of Iran-China 25-Year Cooperation Roadmap, Gholam Ali Khoshroo called the cooperation a turning point in the relations between the two countries, as well as comprehensive development in their relationship.

He described the Iran-China 25-Year Cooperation Plan as a roadmap for the two countries to use each other’s existing capacities to strengthen and develop bilateral and regional cooperation.

China is the world’s second-largest economy because of its economic position over the past 20 years, and if it continues to do so, it will become the world’s largest economy, he added.

Khoshroo said that Iran could be a major trading partner for China, given its rich oil and gas reserves as well as petrochemicals.

Noting that China, with its high financial strength, can invest in large projects in Iran, he said that the “One Belt-One Road” project can bring Iran-China relations closer, both by land and by water. Therefore, the strategy of cooperation between the two countries is a great opportunity for 25 years.

Over the past 20 years, China has made tremendous strides in various fields of industry, technology, and knowledge-based sectors, and is now the largest exporter to the European Union, the United States, Germany, and Japan, he added.

On the other hand, due to Iran’s position in having strategic oil and gas reserves and its position in the Persian Gulf, this memorandum is such that Iran can have a very wide cooperation with China, Khoshroo said.

He cited industrial, energy, financial, monetary, and banking sectors as areas where the two countries could further expand their cooperation.

He went on to say that one of the reasons the United States opposes China is that they have come to the conclusion that China, with its current move, will become the world’s leading economy in five years and surpass the United States in a century.

The United States opposes the cooperation between Iran and China, as it believes that with this agreement and the increase in the level of cooperation, the Islamic Republic of Iran will further expand its ties with the international community.

Khoshroo noted that Iran-China’s cooperation is strategic, and the US has failed to isolate Iran.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The spokesman of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said US recent adventurism against an Iranian airliner is against regional peace and security stressing that such actions “will not go unanswered.”

Commenting on the act of US fighter jets in harassing an Iranian airliner over Syria on Thursday night (July 23), Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said the move was against international aviation regulations.

Two US fighters carried out dangerous maneuvering near Mahan Air’s Flight 1152 with 163 passengers and crew on board en route to Beirut. The US warplanes embarrassing move put the lives of the civilian passengers in danger and terrified them. The airliner’s pilot reportedly reduced flight altitude to avoid colliding with the warplanes which have led to several injuries among passengers.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) which oversees American troops in the Middle East, has later claimed that the two fighters were on their routine mission near the al-Tanf military base and just conducted “a standard visual inspection of a Mahan Air passenger airliner at a safe distance of approximately 1,000 meters from the airliner.”

Referring to CENTCOM’s claim as “ridiculous,” the spokesman said, the movie was the outcome of many cases of violation of laws.

“The presence of US troops in Syria is illegal, and so is the mission of its fighter jets. More importantly, no one has allowed the US to inspect civilian airliners with its fighter jets. This is illegal and dangerous and endangers the lives of civilians especially given the fact that despite claims, no safe distance was being observed,” Mehr News Agency (MNA) quoted Mousavi as saying.

Video footage of the inside of the Iranian airliner broadcast by the Iranian state TV showed a passenger lying immobile on the floor and another with a wounded nose and forehead, presenting his bloodied face mask to the camera.

Several passengers, some seen screaming and shouting, were injured in the flight maneuver over Syria.

Mosavi said that Tehran will pursue this US action through international bodies, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in particular, and will not let America undermine international laws with its bullying behavior.

He further warned against any case of “new adventurism by the US or the Israeli regime in the region,” stressing that stability of West Asia should not turn into an instrument for election campaigns of the US.

Earlier on Friday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted “The US illegally occupies the territory of another State and then harasses a scheduled civil airliner—endangering innocent civilian passengers—ostensibly to protect its occupation forces. Audacity to compound lawlessness upon lawlessness. These outlaws must be stopped before the disaster.”

Commenting on the incident, Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami said on July 24 that Tehran lodged a formal complaint with the ICAO, describing Thursday’s incident as a “terrorist act, one of aggression”.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s government spokesman Ali Rabiei urged European countries not to continue the policy of appeasement of the United States because Washington’s demands know no boundaries.

Asked about the consequences of Europeans’ possible cooperation with the United States overextension of Iran arms embargo, Rabiei said that all the European countries know that the policy of appeasement of the US is a failed policy because the US demands know no boundaries, IRNA reported.

“We expect the Europeans not to continue this policy. By doing so, they are endangering the JCPOA and international peace, and further undermining Europe’s credibility as an independent actor”, he said.

He stressed that the Islamic Republic is concerned about the stance taken by the three European countries (Britain, Germany, and France) in the recent United Nations Security Council meeting on the issue of Iran arms embargo.

The United States has formally asked the 15-member Security Council to extend the UN embargo, which is set to expire on October 18 under the UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which enshrined the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.

On June 30, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called for the arms embargo on Iran to be extended indefinitely, but his appeal fell flat at the United Nations Security Council, where Russia and China rejected it outright and close allies of the US were ambivalent.

Earlier, three European signatories to the Iran nuclear deal — Britain, France, and Germany – had expressed concern about lifting of Iran arms embargo.

“We recall that the EU embargoes on conventional arms exports and missile technology will remain in force until 2023,” they said.

Russia and China have said they oppose the US move and have questioned Washington’s right to use a disputed legal move to force a return of UN sanctions on Iran.

“Having quit the JCPOA, the US is no longer a participant and has no right to trigger a snapback at the Security Council,” Chinese envoy Zhang Jun told the Security Council session.

The US unilaterally pulled out of the nuclear agreement in May 2018 and illegally reimposed sanctions as part of what it calls a “maximum pressure” campaign on Iran.

Washington has claimed that it can trigger a “snapback” mechanism on UN sanctions and the arms embargo because it is still a signatory to the agreement in 2015.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told the Security Council the removal of arms restrictions was “an inseparable part” of the nuclear deal.

“Any attempt to change or amend the agreed timetable is thus tantamount to undermining Resolution 2231 in its entirety,” he said.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – North Korea was seen removing about 10 propaganda loudspeakers reinstalled recently along the border with South Korea, military sources said Wednesday, after leader Kim Jong-un ordered the suspension of military action plans against the South.

The North recently set up around 20 loudspeakers in border areas after threatening to take military action against what it called “the enemy” in anger over Seoul’s failure to stop defectors from sending anti-Pyongyang propaganda leaflets across the border.

“Around 10 newly installed loudspeakers near Cheorwon in North Korea were removing from earlier today,” a military source said, Yonhap news agency reported.

The move came after the communist country decided to suspend military action against South Korea during a Central Military Commission meeting presided over by leader Kim, according to the North’s Korean Central News Agency.

“We are closely monitoring North Korean military moves while maintaining a firm readiness posture,” an official of the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said, noting that the suspension decision was made during the “preliminary” meeting.

Last week, the North blew up the inter-Korean liaison office in its border town of Kaesong in a dramatic expression of anger at the South. The North then warned of a series of military actions, such as the forward deployment of its troops to Kaesong and the Mount Kumgang tourist area on the east coast and opening border areas for scattering anti-South leaflets.

In 2018, South and North Korea dismantled around 40 loudspeakers each from their border regions, as they agreed to halt all hostile acts against each other and eliminate their means, including broadcasting through loudspeakers and the distribution of leaflets, in accordance with the April 27 Panmunjom Declaration signed by President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim.
