TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the US’ claims that it has seized four Venezuela-bound Iranian tankers are “cheap” and “hollow” propaganda aimed at deflecting the world from Washington’s historic defeat at the UN Security Council against Iran.

“’ Pirates of the Caribbean’ have their own judges and courts now. Sadly for them, stolen booty wasn’t Iran’s. Fuel was sold F.O.B. Persian Gulf. Ship and flag weren’t ours either. Hollow, cheap propaganda doesn’t deflect from the miserable failure of US diplomatic malpractice at UN,” Zarif tweeted early on Sunday.

The Wall Street Journal had on Thursday cited US officials as saying that the US government had for the first time seized vessels allegedly carrying Iranian gasoline to Venezuela. It said the US had recently seized four vessels, called Luna, Pandi, Bering, and Bella, in the high seas and they were being transferred to Houston, Texas.

The report came after the 15-member UN Security Council on Friday voted against a US-drafted resolution to extend an arms ban on Iran. Washington was not expected to receive nine votes in favor, removing the need for Russia and China to wield their vetoes which they had indicated they were prepared to do.

The embargo on conventional arms is due to expire on October 18 under the terms of a resolution that blessed the Iran nuclear deal, signed in July 2015, and officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Monday thanked the crew of five Iranian tankers after delivering much-needed fuel and refining components to Venezuela last month.

Leader Ayatollah Khamenei in a message on tankers to Venezuela “May God give strength to all of you, captains and the ships’ crew. You did a great job… You made the country proud”.

The fleet carried 1.53 million barrels of gasoline and components to Venezuela in late May amid tensions between Tehran and Washington.

Tehran and Caracas had warned Washington, which criticized the supply, over any attempt to intercept the ships.

The oil industries of Iran and Venezuela are both under unilateral US sanctions. Iran provided its fellow OPEC member with the supply to help ease an acute shortage due to the sanctions.

Upon the arrival of the first Iranian tanker, Venezuelans stormed Twitter to express gratitude to Tehran for the shipment.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Sunday hailed Iran, Russia, China, and Cuba as real friends of Caracas and expressed gratitude for their humanitarian aid.

“Humanitarian aid is coming from China, Russia, Iran, and Cuba. They are true friends,” Maduro said in a televised speech.

He also rebuked the US, saying Washington had promised $20 million in aid, “but not a single dollar came through”.

The United States has over the past few years imposed harsh economic sanctions on the oil-rich South American country to pressure Maduro to step down, forcing millions of Venezuelans to abandon their homeland due to a lack of basic food and necessities.

Press TV contributed to this story.

TEHRAN- National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) Managing Director Sirous Kianersi said that Total and Shell are among the international companies that have leased out Iranian oil tankers since the implementation of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) that lifted the sanctions against Iran in January 2016.

In an interview with Tasnim news agency, the official noted that the trend of leasing out NITC tankers to foreign companies has been increasing since implementation of JCPOA and announced that NITC has inked 215 deals for leasing out tankers to foreign companies since then until December.

He named Spain’s Cepsa, the Netherland’s Vitol, Italy’s Saras, Indonesia’s Pertamina, India’s Essar Oil, China’s CNPC and Concord Petroleum, and UAE’s Oilmar Shipping as some other companies that have leased out Iranian tankers.

In May, Kianersi said that the implementation of JCPOA has had a key influence on the activity of NITC as the company’s tankers have been moving comfortably in the international waters since the nuclear deal took effect.

According to the official, removing problems related to insurance and ranking were some other fruits of JCPOA.

NITC, which operates the largest tanker fleet in the Middle East and has the world’s largest fleet of super tankers, transports Iranian crude and also acts as an independent entity in contracts with foreign concerns for crude oil transportation based on prevailing international freight rates.

The company has recently received the European Union (EU)’s shipping monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) regulation certificate that its primary aim is for reducing CO2 emissions from maritime transport.
