Mohammadali Geraei beat his countryman Amin Kavianinejhad 4-2 in the 77kg final.

Sajad Abbaspour seized a silver medal in the 55kg, losing to Georgian Nugzar Tsurtsumia in the 55kg final match.

Mohammadreza Mokhtari (72kg) and Mehdi Bali (97kg) also grabbed two bronze medals.

Amin Mirzazadeh also took bronze in the 120kg category.

Freestyler Mohammadsadegh Firouzpour had won a gold medal on Saturday after defeating Turkey’s Soner Demirtaş 2-1 in the final match of the freestyle 74kg.

The XXIV Outstanding Ukrainian Wrestlers and Coaches Memorial in Kyiv featured about 600 participants from 33 different nations.

Two weeks ago, Chabahar, located in Sistan-Baluchestan Province, has been chosen to host the 41st edition of the Takhti Cup.

The prestigious wrestling tournament will be held in the southeastern Iranian port from May 17 to 21.

The international event has brought the top wrestlers around the world to Iran over the past years.

Takhti, who was found dead in a hotel room in January 1968 at the age of just 37, claimed the gold medal in Melbourne 1956 Olympic Games and won two silver medals in Helsinki 1952 and Rome 1960 Olympic Games.

Popularly nicknamed Jahān Pahlevān – “The World Champion” – because of his chivalrous behavior and sportsmanship, Takhti was the most popular athlete of Iran in the 20th century, although dozens of Iranian athletes have won more international medals than he did.
