TEHRAN (Iran News) The Iranian team defeated Ozge Yilmaz and Ece Harac of Turkey 3-1 in the women’s doubles final.

The 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, known as Riyadh 2025, are an inter-continental multi-sport event organized by the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA), held from November 7 to 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The event has brought together more than 3,000 athletes from 57 nations, competing across 25 sports in pursuit of glory at one of the Islamic world’s premier multi-sport events.

According To Iran News, Mehrdad Alighardashi was re-elected as president of Iran’s Table Tennis Federation on Saturday.

Single candidate Alighardashi will be in charge for another four years after securing 41 out of 41 votes available in the elections held in Iran’s Olympic Academy, located in Tehran.

“We know that the expectations are very high for the successes we’ve achieved over the past years. We aim to secure a quota place for individual event however it’s very difficult but we do our best to accomplish it,” Alighardashi said.

Table tennis is among the sports contested at the Summer Olympic Games. It was introduced at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, where singles and doubles tournaments were held for both genders.

Iran table tennis has been growing in the recent years.

The Iranian pair defeated Korea Republic’s Baek Kwangil and Park Chan-Hyeok 3-1 (11-6, 13-11, 8-11, 11-9) to claim men’s doubles gold.

Alamian brothers had previously defeated Belarus 3-1, South Korea 3-1 and Spain 3-2 in the competition.

A total of 157 men and 86 women competed in Granada, Spain from Feb. 4 to 8.

Nima Alamian is an Iranian table tennis player. He won at the 2016 Asian qualification tournament and qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Noshad Alamian Darounkolaei is an Iranian table tennis player.

Alamian made a breakthrough at 2008 ITTF World Junior Championships held in Madrid, Spain by beating junior world no. 1 Kenta Matsudaira; despite being coachless he finished 5th overall.

The World Table Tennis Championships have been held since 1926, biennially since 1957. Five individual events, which include men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles, are currently held in odd-numbered years.

The World Team Table Tennis Championships, which include men’s team and women’s team events, were first their own competition in 2000. The Team Championships are held in even-numbered years.

The 2020 World Team Table Tennis Championships will be held in Busan, South Korea from March 22 to 29, 2020.
