According To Iran News, Syrian soldiers continued their operations against terrorists on Monday, managing to retake the key town of Saraqeb in Idlib after severely hitting their positions and fortification lines.

According to Syrian media, the army troops recaptured Saraqeb in northwestern Syria after inflicting major losses on the terrorists, who receive direct military support from Turkish forces, and are provided with various kinds of artillery rounds, rockets and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The reports added that the Syrian forces are now busy clearing the regained area of the remaining terrorists holed up in parts of the town.

Syrian forces are advancing against foreign-backed Takfiri militants in Idlib, tightening the noose around the extremists in their last major stronghold.

Syria’s official SANA news agency reported on Saturday that army units had engaged in fierce clashes with foreign-backed Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists in Louf and Qamhana villages near the city of Saraqib.

The Syrian forces, it added, finally recaptured the two villages and inflicted heavy losses on the Takfiri elements in terms of their personnel and equipment.

Idlib and the area north of Aleppo Province form part of the only large territory in the hands of terrorists after the Syrian military managed to undo militant gains across the country and bring back almost all of the Syrian soil under government control.

In another development on Saturday, Turkish-backed anti-Damascus militants attacked positions held by the Syrian government forces northeast of Aleppo.

Militant sources said that the raid was focused on the territory adjacent to al-Bab and that their elements had taken three villages so far.

Meanwhile, the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the fierce attack had been “carried out by factions loyal to Ankara.”

Speaking on Friday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country may launch a military operation in Idlib if the ongoing counter-terrorism operation by Syrian government forces continues there.

“Turkey with complete sincerity wants Syria’s stability and security, and to this end, we will not shy away from doing whatever is necessary, including using military force,” he said.

Erdogan further accused Russia of violating agreements to reduce the fighting in Idlib. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia was fully compliant with its obligations in Idlib, which was a haven for militants targeting Syrian troops and a Russian airbase in Syria.

Turkey has intervened militarily in Syria three times to date in cross-border operations with the declared aim of eradicating Kurdish militants and Daesh terrorists near borders.

Damascus has strongly condemned Turkish military operations against Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria, saying the offensive is a violation of the United Nations Charter and Security Council resolutions.

Syria has vowed to confront “brutal” Turkish aggression by all legal means.

Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that a group of terrorists took advantage of foggy weather conditions and started shelling Syrian military points in the surroundings of Samaka and al-Barsa villages and the city of Ma’arat al-Numan in southern Idlib province before starting their attack.

The militants faced with a crushing response from the Syria army forces in Idlib and got two of their military vehicles destroyed by the army’s heavy defensive fire that managed to kill and injure a number of the terrorists, the report added.

The army also carried out rocket and artillery strikes against positions of terrorist groups in the surroundings of Ma’arat al-Numan and hammered the supply routes of terrorists from the direction of Ma’arat al-Numan and Saraqeb, inflicting heavy losses upon them.

Since mid-December, the Syrian army has been clearing Idlib of terrorist groups, including Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) and Tahrir al-Sham. Earlier in the week, the Syrian troops entered the town of Jarjanaz, which is located 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) east of Maarrat al-Numan, a major stronghold of militants in the southern part of Idlib.

Under a deal reached following a meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in September 2018, all militants should have withdrawn from the demilitarization zone by October 15 that year.

However, al-Qaeda-linked Takfiri terrorists said they refuse to either leave the buffer zone or hand over their weapons.

On August 5, 2019,  the Syrian army declared in a statement the start of an offensive against foreign-sponsored militants in Idlib after those positioned in the de-escalation zone failed to honor a ceasefire brokered by Russia and Turkey and continued to target civilian neighborhoods.

According To Iran News, Syrian forces repelled a major attack by al-Nusra militants in the eastern countryside of Idlib, inflicting major losses on them.

Al-Nusra militants along with their tanks and armored vehicles moved towards the direction of Aajaz town in the eastern countryside of Idlib on Friday in an attempt to retake military posts from Syrian army troops, SANA reported.

They, however, were pushed back following an exchange of fire with the Syrian forces, the report added.

On Monday, Syrian forces managed to liberate the villages of Um al-Khalakhil, Dhahret a-Zarzour and al-Sayeer, besides farming land surrounding al-Musheirifa village from the grip of Takfiri militants in Idlib.

According To Iran News, Syria’s army established control over the villages of al-Luaibdeh Gharbyia and Tal Khazna in Idlib after eliminating the last gatherings of terrorists there.

Official news agency SANA reported that army units on Thursday conducted concentrated and intensive bombardments with artillery and rockets on gatherings and fortifications of “Jabhat al-Nusra” terrorists in the village of al-Luaibdeh Gharbyia in the area.

Afterwards, fierce clashes erupted between army units and the terrorist groups positioned in the area which finished with liberating al-Luaibdeh Gharbyia village and Tal Khazna after killing and injuring a number of terrorists while groups of them fled away towards their bastions in the direction of Ma’aret al-Nua’aman in the west.

The reporter added that army units carried out concentrated operations against gatherings and fortifications of the terrorist organizations in al-Musheirfeh village in the same area, inflicting heavy losses upon them in the personnel and equipment.

Last August, army units established control on Khan Sheikhoun city and al-Habit town and a number of villages and towns in Idlib southern suburbs, meanwhile, terrorist organizations still have bastions in Idlib and its suburbs.
