Iranian ambassador, Iraj Masjedi said in a televised interview with Al Iraqiya that Iran supports the government of new Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi as it is formed based on the will of people and confirmation of Parliament.

Iran is ready to cooperate with Iraq in all fields and expand and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, he added.

The common interests of the two countries are important to Iran, Masjedi stressed, expressing hope that the two countries would increase their cooperation during Al-Kadhimi’s tenure.

Iranian ambassador noted that the new Iraqi government’s approach to Iran is positive, and Iran is eager to expand cooperation with Iraq as well.

Masjedi expressed hope that economic relations between the two countries, especially in the electricity sector, would be strengthened in the light of the Iranian Minister of Energy’s visit to Baghdad and the signing of an agreement in this regard.

Iran supports any domestic production in Iraq and is even willing to invest in this filed, he added.

Referring to the recent visit of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Quds Force Commander Brigadier General Esmail Ghaani to Iraq, Masjedi said that the US-Iraq dialogue is an internal matter, and the recent visit of General Ghaani to Iraq has nothing to do with this issue.

TEHRAN – Tens of thousands of Indonesians protested Sunday against the US decision to recognize Jerusalem (al-Quds) as Israel’s capital, the latest show of support for the Palestinians in the country with the world’s largest Muslim population.

The rally was organized by the top Islamic authority the Indonesian Ulema Council and supported by the government as well as several other Islamic organizations.

Police said 80,000 protesters gathered at the National Monument, a tower that looms over central Jakarta, waving the Palestine flag and banners reading “Free Palestine” as they chanted “God is greatest!”

“This is my solidarity as a Muslim to my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters in Palestine… the Al-Aqsa mosque, a historical mosque for Muslims, is there (in Jerusalem),” said Hermawati, from the nearby city of Bogor, who like many Indonesians goes by one name, AFP reported.

Dressed mostly in white, the demonstrators urged the US to change its decision.

Indonesia’s religious affairs minister and Jakarta’s governor were among those at the protest site just a few meters from the US embassy, which was cordoned off behind coils of razor wire.

“Isn’t it the government’s job to work on the aspiration of the majority of Indonesians? And the government has tried its best so Palestine can achieve its rights and independence,” Religious Affairs minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin told the crowd.

Indonesia has condemned President Donald Trump’s decision, with President Joko Widodo joining other world Islamic leaders last Wednesday in an emergency summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul.

The leaders urged world powers to recognize occupied East Jerusalem as the capital of the “State of Palestine” and declared Trump’s decision “null and void legally”.

The UN Security Council is considering a draft resolution which would find that any change to the status of Jerusalem has no legal effect and must be reversed.

TEHRAN– Russian Federation Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected Afghan president’s allegations about Russia’s support for Taliban and called the remarks unacceptable.

“We have taken note of reports in some Afghan media of statements regarding Russia’s ‘support’ for the Taliban movement by President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai during his recent trip to Paktia Province,” the Russian Federation Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Information and Press Department said in a statement released on Monday.

“We consider unacceptable such statements by the head of state of friendly Afghanistan. We recall that Afghan officials have confirmed at different levels that such accusations against Moscow are groundless,” it added.

The Russian Foreign Ministry statement noted that “On the contrary, Moscow is rendering multiple forms of assistance to Kabul, including help in consolidating the combat capabilities of its national security forces, and is actively facilitating inter-Afghan dialogue with a view to establishing peace and stability in that country as soon as possible.”

“We urge Afghan leaders not to follow along with the anti-Russian hysteria fanned by some Western media.”

Afghan president during his visit to southeastern Paktia province on Sunday accused Pakistan and Russia of supporting the Taliban by providing them with weapons, training and money.

“The Taliban are accepting guns from those who have blood on their hand of 1.5 million Afghans,” Ghani said in a reference to Russia.

Visiting Ayatollah Hashemi Shahrudi made the remark in a meeting with the Head of the National Iraqi Alliance Ammar Hakim on Sunday, adding, “the fight against ISIL has strengthened religious belief and drawn attention to religious matters in the hearts and minds of people. Iraq is a powerful country; we are grateful of the sacrifices made by Iraqi people and it shouldn’t be allowed that political issues and potential conflicts between the politicians to have a negative impact on the fighting spirit of the people.”

Ayatollah Hashemi Shahrudi went on to add, “victory in the war against ISIL is a god-given blessing as were the Popular Mobilization Forces and the religious decrees issued by shia theologians.”

During this meeting which took place in the presence of Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaee, Ayatollah Shahroudi maintained that the situation of today’s Iraq is similar to that of Iran after the Imposed War of 1980; because the security of the country is improving, they must move forward through serving people, strategic planning and national unity.

Stressing improvements in the security of Iraq, Ayatollah Shahroudi went on to say that domestic war is no longer a threat to Iraq and internal security will further strengthen.

“Victory of Iraqi people shows that terrorism in this country will be soon eradicated, therefore the people of Iraq must focus on rebuilding their country,” he added.

Ammar Hakim, for his part, voiced hope that the Iraqi nation would retake its position in the Muslin world by moving past the two threats of terrorism and foreign intervention.
