TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Super Cup between Persepolis and Tractor was postponed.

The match had been originally scheduled for October 26 but the Iran League Football Organization has postponed the match.

Iran’s Super Cup will be held after the first half of the Iran Professional League (IPL) season.

The Organization has not yet announced the reason of the decision.

The Super Cup will be held between IPL holder Persepolis and Hazfi Cup champion Tractor.

Iran’s Super Cup winner, Perspolis: CAS confirms

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that Persepolis football team are the winners of Iran’s Super Cup.

The Iranian Football League Organization had already awarded the title to Persepolis after Esteghlal withdrew from the game but the Blues had protested the decision.

The match was originally scheduled for July 20 but Esteghlal requested Iran Football League Organization to postpone the match.

The organization refused to reschedule the match since two teams had to play in quarter-final of AFC Champions League and Iran Professional League (IPL).

Esteghlal filed an appeal to Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision and the sport’s supreme court announced that Persepolis are the winners. But the other team is protesting against the announcement. This year’s season was full of surprises.

The Iran’s Super Cup is a trophy awarded to the winners of a match between the Iran Professional League’s season champions and the winners of the Hazfi Cup.

This is how it works;

In the normal circumstances, following clubs participate:

Defending Persian Gulf Pro League Champions
Defending Hazfi Cup winners

If a team also be the Persian Gulf Pro League and Hazfi Cup champion, they will become the Super Cup champion.

Persepolis reclaims Iran’s Super Cup as Esteghlal withdraws

Esteghlal withdrew from playing in the final of Super Cup and the title went to Persepolis for the second successive year.

The Super Cup was scheduled to be held on July 20 between Esteghlal (Hazf Cup winner) and Persepolis (Iran Professional League champions) in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.

Esteghlal officials had announced that they cannot play on that specific date since they are in Turkey for a training camp.

Accordingly, Iran Football League Organization announced that the match result is 3-0 in favor of the reds and they are the title winners.

“The Iran Football League Organization must apologize to millions of Esteghlal fans for their decisions. We’ve already announced that we cannot play on July 20,” Zamani, a board member of Esteghlal said on Tuesday.

“We never had a problem playing against Persepolis, but we cannot play at that time since we will be in Turkey until July 22,” he added.
