Iraqi cleric urges Sunni Muslims to defend Iran against U.S.

“Everyone should be ready to defend Iran. This act is a religious duty and everyone should obey it,” he said, Khabar Online reported on Wednesday.

In the face of the United States’ aggressive policies, all of the Islamic ummah are expected to stand up to Washington’s acts of aggression against Iran and all Arab and Islamic countries, he stated.

The U.S. is following the anti-Iran policies of the Zionist regime, he added.

Al-Hamim also said that the U.S. is targeting the religion, civilization and identity of the Islamic ummah.

Shia-Sunni amity in Afghanistan to foil plots: Expediency Council chief

TEHRAN – Friendship between the Shia and Sunni communities in Afghanistan will lay waste the plots of the enemies of Islam, the chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council said on Monday.

Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan Mohammad Mohaghegh, who has traveled to Iran to attend International Conference on Followers of Ahl al-Bayt.

He pointed out that one of the greatest threats in Afghanistan is the U.S. influence which plans to carry out dire scenarios against Afghanistan and other neighboring countries.

Earlier the day, Mohaghegh met Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif at the site of Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed expansion of relations and cooperation. The need for more cooperation in combating terrorist groups and expediting the follow-up of issues in the quintuple committees of Iran and Afghanistan were other topics discussed at the meeting.

Iraqi parliament’s largest Sunni bloc supports Baghdad

TEHRAN – The largest group in the Iraqi parliament has expressed its support for the Baghdad government, according to a statement from the Prime Ministry’s Press Office on Saturday.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi met the president and members of Iraqi parliament’s largest Sunni group, Sunni Iraqi Forces Coalition (IFC), the statement added.
Al-Abadi has expressed one more time the importance of the territorial and national integrity of Iraq, the statement read, reported Anadolu.
The authority of the federal government in the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) and in the disputed territories would be provided by constitution and law, al-Abadi said.

He said that the government’s stance against the KRG’s illegitimate referendum has not changed and Baghdad would continue to apply the decisions that the country has taken to achieve territorial and national integrity.
Tension has steadily mounted between Baghdad and northern Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) since Sept. 25, when Iraqis in KRG-controlled areas — and in a handful of disputed areas — voted on whether or not to declare independence.
In the immediate aftermath of last month’s illegitimate poll, Baghdad banned international flights from entering KRG-controlled areas and closed all foreign diplomatic missions based in the Kurdish region.
