Sukhoi ready to offer SSJ100 aircraft to Iran despite U.S. sanctions

TEHRAN – The Russian Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC) says it is ready to offer the SSJ100 aircraft to the Iranian customers, regardless of U.S. sanctions.

“In April 2018, during the Eurasia Airshow, memorandums were signed with Iran Aseman and Iran Airtour, expressing only the intention to purchase airplanes,” the company’s press service was quoted by Trend on Tuesday.

“SCAC is working to create a version of SSJ100 with a significantly increased share of Russian components and units, which will allow to offer the SSJ100 aircraft to the Iranian customers, regardless of U.S. sanctions,” it added.

No planning for bartering Iranian oil with Russia’s Sukhoi aircraft

Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development for International Affairs Asghar Fakhrieh Kashan said that any directive has not yet been issued with regard to bartering Iranian oil with Russia’s Sukhoi aircraft.

Turning to the possibility of bartering Iranian oil with Russia’s Sukhoi aircraft, he said, “other airline companies can embark on purchasing Sukhoi aircrafts either with Russian or western engine but the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development has no plan to hold talks with this Russian aircraft mfg. company in this regard.”

He pointed to the fate of contracts for purchasing airplane from three leading plane manufacturing companies including [Airbus, Boeing and ATR] at the condition that these companies have been banned for selling plane to Iran under US sanctions on Iran, he said, “we prefer to keep plane purchase contracts from Airbus, Boeing and ATR plane mfg. companies in place without any change until new conditions are provided.”

After US pullout from JCPOA, the three plane manufacturing companies [Airbus, Boeing and ATR] have necessarily been obliged to abolish their contracts concluded with Iran, he said, adding, “for this purpose, we are currently negotiating with these companies.”

Under the US pressure, these three plane manufacturing companies are interested in abolishing their contracts with Iran’s national flag carrier ‘IranAir’, he emphasized.

Although the aforementioned three companies are not necessarily obliged to pay compensations to Iran for canceling contract concluded with Iran, they [Airbus, Boeing and ART] will sustain a heavy loss financially in the respect, Fakhrieh Kashan maintained.

The deputy minister of Roads and Urban Development pointed to the possibility of delivery of two ART planes to IranAir and said, “presently, representatives of Franco-Italian aircraft manufacturer ‘ATR’ are negotiating with Iran in order to receive waiver from the US sanctions on Iran in this respect.”

Iranian airliners sign MOUs to buy 40 superjets from Russia’s Sukhoi

TEHRAN- Two Iranian airliners, Iran Airtour and Aseman Airlines, signed memorandums of understandings with Russian aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi on the purchase of 40 aircrafts from the Russian company.

Based on the MOUs signed on April 25 on the sidelines of the Eurasia Airshow in Turkey, each airliner will receive 20 Sukhoi Superjet-100 (SSJ-100) passenger planes, Tass quoted Sukhoi Civil Aircraft President Aleksandr Rubtsov as saying.

Rubtsov said that the contracts will be signed by the end of 2018. The catalog price for a SSJ100R aircraft is about $52 million.

In mid-February, a Sukhoi Superjet 100 landed on Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport and was examined by Iranian aviation experts deciding about its future purchase.

“The Russian airplane maker asked Iran to let its aircraft land on Mehrabad on its way back from Singapore Air Show 2018,” the Secretariat of Association of Iranian Airlines Maghsoud Asadi Samani told Tasnim news agency on the sidelines of the superjet’s examination.

Sukhoi SuperJet-100 is Russia’s newest twin-engine regional passenger aircraft. It began operating commercially in 2011. More than 60 aircraft are in service with airlines in Laos, Mexico, and Russia.

Iran has a shortage of modern aircraft due to decades-long sanctions imposed by Western countries. Local airlines are looking for reliable regional jets, and the Russian models could bolster the country’s aviation industry.

Russian Sukhoi Superjet aircraft 100 to land in Tehran

Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) announced that a Russian Sukhoi Superjet 100 along with an engineering team will land in Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport today.

Following the implementation of a plan entitled ‘Development of Aviation Fleet’, airline companies are mulling over different alternatives to boost their aviation capacities.

This aircraft is equipped with 100 seats and has the capability of short-range and regional flights, CAO reported.

According to the scheduled program, this equipped aircraft will be inspected tomorrow by domestic airlines meticulously, CAO concluded.
