“Amadeus” to go on stage in Tehran

TEHRAN – English playwright Peter Shaffer’s “Amadeus” will go on stage under the direction of Javad Molania at Tehran’s Hafez Hall on March 27.

An orchestra, which will be conducted by Nader Mashayekhi, will perform the music live for the play, which is about the rivalry between Mozart and his fellow composer Antonio Salieri, Molania told the Persian service of MNA on Friday.

“I will provide a new insight into the play, which portrays jealousy and greed,” he said.

Rapper 2Pac to come back to life on Tehran stage

TEHRAN – The Iranian stage director and writer Manijeh Mahamedi plans to stage a play based on the life story of the American rapper and actor Tupac Amaru Shakur, also known by his stage name 2Pac and Makaveli.

“Years ago, I, along with Arsham Moaddabian, translated songs from 2Pac and also wrote a play based on his life story,” Mahamedi told the Persian service of MNA on Saturday.

“The play will cover the life of 2Pac from childhood to his death,” she said.

She first planned to stage “2Pac” at Tehran’s Shahrzad Theater, but she subsequently withdrew after the theater imposed severe conditions for performing the play.

Now, she is determined to direct the play during the next year of Iranian calendar, which will begin March 21.

2Pac is consistently ranked as one of the greatest and most influential rappers of all time. He sold over 75 million records worldwide, making him one of the bestselling music artists of all time.

His double disc albums “All Eyez on Me” and his “Greatest Hits” are among the bestselling albums in the United States.

He was shot four times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 7, 1996 and died from his injuries six days later.

On April 7, 2017, Shakur was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

He was also an actor, starring in six films and one TV show in the 1990s, including “Poetic Justice”, “Gang Related” and “Gridlock’d”.

Levon Haftvan to stage “The Yalta Game” in Toronto

TEHRAN – Iranian director Levon Haftvan will perform Irish writer Brian Friel’s “The Yalta Game” at the Fairview Library Theater in Toronto, Canada on Friday.

The play will be produced by Haftvan’s Lemaz Productions and Artists Management in Canada.

“The Yalta Game” is based on Anton Chekhov’s 1899 story “The Lady with the Lapdog”. It is about a married man who is on holiday alone, leaving his wife and family behind in Moscow. While away, he meets a married young woman and they start talking together, but that is only the beginning.

Vahid Rohbani and Helia Imani are the main members of the cast for the play, which will be performed in Persian.
