President Inaugurates One of the Largest Recreational Complexes in Southern Iran

TEHRAN (Iran News) The Gohar Park Tourism Village, spanning approximately 570 hectares, has been established to enhance tourism infrastructure in the southern region and promote a culture of tourism. Located near the country’s industrial and mining hub, the complex includes a water park, wildlife park, artificial lake and waterfall, amusement park, roller coaster, dry slides, a horror train ride, sports fields, and accommodation units.

The project is expected to create 750 direct jobs and over 1,000 indirect employment opportunities.

President Pezeshkian arrived in Sirjan, Kerman province, on Saturday morning as part of the Ten-Day Dawn celebrations of the Islamic Revolution to inaugurate major mining and industrial projects.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, Pezeshkian expressed optimism that the launch of new industrial and tourism projects in Sirjan, along with the creation of job opportunities in downstream industries, would accelerate economic and social development in the region.

During his visit to various sections of the “Gohar Park Tourism Village,” he briefly spoke with Kerman’s television network, offering condolences to the families of the students from Kerman who tragically lost their lives in a recent road accident.”Southern Iran ”

“We have traveled to Sirjan today to inaugurate several projects and personally appreciate those involved in their implementation,” the president stated. “The projects being launched today have been carried out with an investment of 200 trillion rials, a significant amount. I hope the employment opportunities and production from these facilities, along with the downstream industries that will emerge, will lead to further economic and social progress for Sirjan and Kerman.”

During his visit, President Pezeshkian toured different parts of the Gohar Park Tourism Village, including the Sacred Defense Memorial, where he received briefings on the execution and activities of the various sections.

The president reiterated his hope that these new projects would accelerate Sirjan’s growth and development.

He also later announced a substantial investment of 120 trillion rials ($4 billion) in Sirjan for the coming year, emphasizing the need to prioritize the welfare of future generations.

Speaking at the inauguration of development projects in Sirjan, the President expressed his condolences over the tragic bus accident that claimed the lives of several students from Kerman. He acknowledged the efforts of past administrations in initiating investment projects, stating that the government’s role was merely to inaugurate these initiatives. He extended gratitude to those who had worked to bring these projects to fruition.

Pezeshkian stressed the importance of collective cooperation in addressing challenges, warning against individualistic decision-making. “If we work together, we can solve problems, but if someone believes they have all the answers, we will face difficulties,” he stated.

He also called for better utilization of available resources, noting that despite having abundant facilities, their potential had not been fully harnessed. He urged improvements in the efficiency and quality of resource use.

Highlighting the significance of long-term investments, the President reiterated the necessity of creating a sustainable future. “We can use our oil, gas, and mineral reserves today, but what happens when they are depleted? This is why we must invest in the future of Iran’s children while utilizing our current resources wisely,” he concluded.

This investment is expected to boost economic development in Sirjan, enhancing infrastructure and creating a more sustainable environment for future generations.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Finnish Ambassador to Iran Kari Kahiluoto said Finland is looking for new economic opportunities in southern Iran in the wake of a normalization of diplomatic ties between the Islamic Republic and its Persian Gulf Arab neighbors.

During a Wednesday visit to Bushehr province in southwestern Iran, where he met with businesspeople in the region, Kahiluoto said Finland is determined to revive its old economic relations with Iran.

“Given the 90-year history of economic ties between Finland and the Islamic Republic of Iran, we are seeking to restore these good relations,” he was quoted as saying by IRNA’s Persian service.

Finland’s expression of eagerness for closer ties with Iran comes after a recent China-brokered agreement that restored diplomatic relations between the Islamic Republic and Saudi Arabia after seven years.

The deal set in motion a new dynamic in the region, with a number of other Arab states voicing a willingness to mend fences with Iran.

“We know that relations between Iran and the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq and recently with Saudi Arabia have improved,” Kahiluoto said.

“Given that Finland is also a trading partner of many of these countries… we can also find more economic opportunities,” he added.

Bushehr is home to some of the most important commercial ports in southern Iran and features a number of major oil and gas facilities and industrial projects.

Considering that Finland is located at the northern end of the International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC), Kahiluoto said, “Anything related to transportation and ports is important for this country.”

According to Hamidreza Kashfi, the one-million-cubic-meters target should be achieved under the framework of the country’s Sixth Five-year National Development Plan (2016-2021).

“Currently, the government purchases the water produced in desalination plants through guaranteed purchase deals with the investors, and with the required credit being supplied [by the government], we can supply up to one million cubic meters of drinking water in the southern regions of the country,” Kashfi explained.

The official noted that according to studies conducted in recent years, it is possible to supply drinking water to the southern coastal regions of the country through desalination plants.

He put the cost for producing each cubic meter of water in a desalination plant at one dollar, saying that since the knowledge for the construction of the necessary equipment in this field has been indigenized the coasts have been reduced to 70 cents in Iran.

Over the past decade, Iran has been preparing a plan to deploy desalination plants on the shores of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman in order to supply drinking water to the coastal provinces.

Back in November 2020, President Hassan Rouhani inaugurated the first phase of a major water desalination and transfer project which is aimed at supplying Persian Gulf waters to central Iran through a pipeline.

According to Iran’s Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian the Government has earmarked the budget for desalination of 8.2 billion liters of water a year and the operational work for 760 million liters of the mentioned figure has already been started.

Some 2,380 kilograms of different drugs were seized during clashes between the Iran’s anti-narcotics police forces and smugglers attempting to smuggle the drugs into the country through Mirjaveh borders, said Commander of Sistan and Baluchestan Border Guards Colonel Mohammad Mollashahi.

According to the police chief, 2,287 kilograms of opium and 100 kilograms of hashish were confiscated during the operation.

Four smugglers have been arrested in this regard and handed over to the judicial officials and two vehicles along with a number of different weapons were captured, he added.

In another operation, the police forces of Hormozgan Province have dismantled a drug trafficking band that carried drugs from Hasht Bandi city to Minab, said Police Chief of Hormozgan Province Second Brigadier General Gholamreza Jafari.

The busted consignment contained 634 kilograms of opium, he added, saying that two criminals were also detained during the operation.

The Islamic Republic has been actively fighting drug-trafficking over the past three decades, despite its high economic and human costs. The war on drug trade originating from Afghanistan has claimed the lives of nearly 4,000 Iranian police officers over the past four decades. The country has spent more than hundreds of millions of dollars on sealing its borders and preventing the transit of narcotics destined for European, Arab and Central Asian countries.
