TEHRAN (Iran News) – Sony has confirmed it will hold a Future of Gaming streaming event on Thursday night, where it will reveal the first games to be available for the upcoming PlayStation 5 console.

Video game fans will get a first look at some of the titles coming to the new PlayStation 5 in a special event later this week.

The gaming system’s maker Sony has confirmed it will hold a Future of Gaming streaming event on Thursday night, where it will reveal the first games to be available for the upcoming console.

The PlayStation 5 is due to be released at the end of this year, around the same time as rival Microsoft’s own next-generation console, the Xbox Series X.

The two releases will be a pivotal moment for the gaming industry – Sony and Microsoft are market leaders and their next generation of consoles will set the tone for gaming habits for years to come.

Sony Interactive Entertainment president and chief executive Jim Ryan said Thursday’s event will show games which “represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe”.

“There are few things as exciting as the launch of a new console. While this road to launch has been a bit… different, we are as thrilled as ever to bring you with us on this journey to redefine the future of video games,” Mr Ryan said.

Sony had yet to reveal the PS5 console itself, although it has shared images of a new white and black controller which will come with the device.

The event on Thursday could also be used to officially reveal the system’s hardware for the first time. However, Sony has not confirmed any such plans.

Sony had originally planned to hold the virtual event last week but postponed it in the wake of the ongoing protests over the death of George Floyd in the United States.

At the time, the company said: “While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration, and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”

The Future of Gaming event will begin at 9 pm in the UK on Thursday, broadcast on YouTube and Twitch.

Recent reports suggest that the PS5 will be announced this year by Sony and that the tech giant is also planning a new premium version of the PS Plus subscription service.

This would allegedly launch before the PS5 but would also play a role in boosting revenue for the PlayStation Network ecosystem, the Express reported.

The new report, via Segment Next, comes from an “EU based game developer” who claims to know about the next-gen device.

From what has been shared so far, PS Plus Premium would include guaranteed early access to games, as well as provide a private server for the user.

However, it’s unclear just what kind of features this would unlock for an average gamer, and what it would be compatible with.

There is also the question of price, which is a major piece of information not shared by the insider.

This new service would run parallel with the existing PlayStation Plus service, meaning fans wouldn’t need to upgrade.

And this is important as a “Premium” service will no doubt cost more to use.

There’s no mention of added use when it comes to Sony’s other services, meaning no big bundling with PS Vue or PlayStation Now.

It is also reported that Sony PlayStation will announce their new console in 2019, likely before E3 2019.

There have been various rumors that such a thing might happen, without any solid news from Sony themselves.

The PS5 release date would be set for 2020, although it’s unclear if this would happen in March or November, as the date has yet to be finalized.

Specs and stats for the new console have also been listed, and they appear to be a laundry list of hoped for fan features.

Things like Backwards Compatibility and a new upgraded PSVR headset are also mentioned, which would no doubt prove popular.

However, like everything we have been reading about the PS5 of late, this needs to be taken with a big pinch of salt.

There is no way to verify this new information, which has been shared online, anonymously.

So fans will have to wait and see if a PlayStation 5 announcement does materialize in the coming months.

The highly detailed post runs against some of the recent information shared by trusted media sources, like Kotaku’s Jason Schreier.

In a recent post, he revealed that knowledge of the next-gen console was still very limited and that the console would be hitting shelves in 2020.

“Look, as I’ve been saying since roughly March 2018 (in this very thread), next-gen is coming in 2020,” Schreier shared on Reset Era.

“That Semiaccurate article saying 2018 (lol) got people’s hopes up for 2019, but by now I hope it’s clear that the PS5 ain’t coming out this fall.

“And, despite all the rumors about devkits being out (usually from rumormongers who are wrong more often than not), the number of people briefed on next-gen is still very limited. Even within companies like, say, DICE, there’ll be a small team of engineers who now have a rough idea of specs, and everyone else will know when they need to know. Not a lot of devs are disclosed on next-gen right now.

“In other words, don’t expect much in the way of substantial leakage just yet.

“The only thing to know for sure is that both Sony and Microsoft are aiming higher than that “10.7 teraflops” number that Google threw out last week.”

As mostly as it is unconfirmed by Sony or Microsoft, it’s been said that the next generation of consoles powered by AMD processors are on the 2020 horizon.

It’s been generally expected that AMD would continue to provide silicon solutions for both Sony and Microsoft in their next generation of consoles. We’ve seen numerous leaks and rumors that pointed in this direction and Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 5 is expected in 2020. What we haven’t heard is formal confirmation of the fact from AMD — until now.

Speaking on CNBC (Overclock3D), AMD CEO Lisa Su confirmed that her company is “working with both Sony and Microsoft on consoles” and expected to provide the “secret sauce” for both designs. Right now, what we’ve heard is that the CPUs in both consoles are likely to be Zen derivatives, while the GPU for the PS5 is said to be based on AMD’s Navi — which may itself have been heavily influenced by Sony’s PlayStation 5 plans.

Assuming these plans are accurate, we can assume one thing for certain about the two upcoming consoles — they’ll pack significantly more CPU performance. With the PS4 and Xbox One, Sony and MS both pitched an argument that implied CPU performance was less important because the integrated GPU was far more programmable and could take over many tasks formerly handled by the CPU. The success of these platforms, including recent hits like the highly rated Spider-Man for PS4, is proof that the consoles can deliver great gaming experiences — the Xbox One X is a better gaming system than any you can build from scratch. This was particularly true during the cryptocurrency boom when GPU prices exploded and effectively broke the DIY market. But even allowing this point, it’s still true that the Jaguar core was designed to serve as a mobile CPU for low-power netbooks intended to outperform Intel’s Atom, but not to deliver the same performance as a traditional ‘big core’ x86 CPU. Some of the Xbox One and PS4 performance peculiarities, like the huge L2 latency when reading from one CPU cluster to the other, are an artifact of design decisions made for the low-power mobile market.

I once down-clocked a Kaveri and dropped it to a single memory channel to perform the closest clock-for-clock comparison against Kabini (Jaguar) that I could, even though the half-speed L2 cache on Jaguar made it impossible to compare the chips in an apples-to-apples configuration. The two CPUs were surprisingly competitive in terms of overall performance, though Kaveri was faster overall. But Ryzen is much faster than Kaveri — and that gives AMD some room to maneuver when it comes to picking CPU characteristics.

If Sony and Microsoft want a true eight-core SoC (as opposed to two distinct quad-core CPU clusters), they can have one with . Its vastly increased efficiency relative to Bulldozer or Jaguar means that both companies will have the option to keep clocks (and therefore power consumption) low, allocating more power for the GPU cluster if desired. If we assume that the gap between Kaveri and Kabini was just 1.15x clock-for-clock and the gap between Ryzen and Kaveri IPC corresponds to the 1.52x AMD claimed at the Zen launch, then AMD has the opportunity to deliver a huge efficiency improvement without touchingthe clock speed. This last point matters because keeping CPU clocks low is a critical way to tamp down on power consumption, allowing more horsepower to be diverted to the GPU when necessary.

Without knowing more about Navi, it’s hard to speculate on what kind of GPU capabilities might be baked into the platform, but there’s a chance that the gains here could be significant. AMD has been using the same fundamental GCN architecture since 2012. The company has made the decision to align its product roadmaps with the console manufacturer timelines and needs. Given the desperate financial straits, AMD was in five years ago, this decision made a great deal of long-term strategic sense and may have even saved the company from bankruptcy. But it also means that this PS5 / Xbox Next technology ramp is probably our best chance to see a major shift in graphics technology.

Sony announced the upcoming release of new CMOS image sensor for smartphone cameras, featuring 48 effective megapixels, the industry’s highest pixel count.

Sony’s smartphone division continues to turn in unimpressive performance, but the company remains the market leader in image sensors. Its latest design, the IMX586, promises a leap in image quality by dramatically increasing the resolution to 48 effective megapixels (8000 x 6000), which Sony says is the highest pixel count in the industry.

Image quality isn’t simply a matter of adding more megapixels — that can be counterproductive, with smaller pixels leading to noisy photos in low light. The 0.8-micron pixels used in this sensor will be the smallest on the market, in fact. But Sony says it’ll get around this by using a quad Bayer color filter array and allowing each pixel to use signals from the four adjacent pixels, which supposedly raises light sensitivity to the equivalent of a 12-megapixel image captured with 1.6-micron pixels, the Verge reported.

Phones from Nokia’s 808 PureView in 2012 to this year’s Huawei P20 Pro have experimented with similar pixel-binning techniques on sensors with 40 megapixels or more, but Sony’s IMX586 is likely to be a more mainstream solution. Sony is keeping the size down to 8mm diagonal, meaning there won’t be the need for a huge camera bump, though the lens in front of the sensor will of course play a big part in the camera’s ability to resolve an image. The focus is also on producing usable 48-megapixel images rather than downsampling by default — this might not be incredibly useful for everyday snaps, but it should at least allow for much better digital zoom.

You can expect to see the IMX586 on smartphones next year; Sony is planning to start shipping samples this September, with a unit price of 3,000 yen ($27) each.
