“The Syrian National Dialogue Congress recently held in Russia’s Sochi has given a serious positive impetus to the United Nations-led Geneva process,” the Russian foreign ministry said Monday citing Lavrov as telling his French counterpart during a phone conversation.

The Presidents’ remarks came during a phone conversation held on Saturday.

The two sides affirmed that the outcomes of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress, which was held in The Russian city of Sochi on January 29-30, will significantly contribute to having a political settlement to the crisis in Syria under UN patronage.

The final statement of Sochi congress stressed full commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, independence, safety and territorial unity.

“The remarkable number of members from Syrian society attending the Syrian National Dialogue Congress (SNDC) is Sochi is a significant feature of this event,” said Hossein Jaberi Ansari Iranian Foreign Minister’s Special Assistant in Political Affairs.

Mr. Jaberi Ansari, who also serves as Iran’s senior negotiator in Syria talks, made the remarks on Tuesday in Russian resort port city of Sochi where the SNDC is underway.

When the Iranian diplomat was asked by the reporters about the reason behind the delay in the opening of the event, he said that it is quite normal for those who have experienced the talks held in Astana.

“It has turned into an advantage gaining trick for some Syrian opposition groups who delay the opening of peace talks always to demand some realistically unachievable requests,” said the Iranian diplomat about the postponement.

“The new excuse for holding up the today meeting was the logo designed for the SNDC which contained the official flag of Syria and they asked for change in the flag which is something impossible to realize and that is why some groups left the meeting but the meeting finally kicked off and it is successfully followed up,” recounted Mr. Jaberi Ansari.

“We hope that this convention open a renewed chapter in intra-Syrian dialogues. For this cause, many new committee have been formed and the most prominent of them are the follow-up committee of Sochi talks and the committee for discussing and exchanging views on new Syrian constitution,” he added.

“These committees will kick off their activities immediately after the Sochi congress and we hope that it also kick off a new trend of positive changes for establishing a reliable and stable political process to end the crisis in Syria,” noted the Iranian diplomat.

Boasting the diversity feature of this congress, Mr. Jaberi Ansari asserted that the meeting can be a commencement for a serious political process which would enable Syrians to decide the fate of their country instead of foreigners deciding for Syria.

“Iran-Russia-Turkey tripartite summit held in the Russian city of Sochi was a victory for peace and a way to crush bones of Takfiri terrorism,” Amir-Abdollahian said in his official twitter account on Thursday, adding the power of resistance is a guarantee for the success of diplomacy and should be maintained with power.

Vladimir Putin, Hassan Rouhani and Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the future of Syria after the defeat of ISIL.

The Russian, Iranian and Turkish leaders reaffirmed the importance of preserving sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria. The presidents have also agreed on promoting the Astana peace talks on Syria.

Presidents of Iran and Turkey supported Russia’s initiative of a national dialogue in Syria, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the press conference.

Iran, Turkey and Russia call on all countries to assist settlement in Syria, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said.

“We confirmed readiness to intensify cooperation for the final destruction of Daesh, al-Nusra Front , other extremist groups,” Putin said after talks with the leaders of Iran and Turkey.

Russia, Iran and Turkey will conduct work on a date and composition of a future Syrian National Dialog Congress in Sochi, he went on.

“I can state with satisfaction that the presidents of Iran and Turkey welcomed the idea of convening a pan-Syrian forum – a Syrian National Dialogue Congress. It has been agreed to arrange for this most important event at the proper level and to ensure participation in it of the wide strata of Syrian society. The foreign ministries, special services and defense ministries were instructed to work on a date and composition of the Congress to be held here in Sochi,” Putin said.

“At today’s talks we did not leave out an issue of Syria’s economic and social restoration. Loads of work should be done. Actually, the Syrians should be helped to rebuild infrastructure, to revive the industry, agriculture and trade and to reopen vital facilities – hospitals, schools and kindergartens,” Putin said.

Iranian President Rouhani described the meeting of today as open meeting and asserted that the main objective of the Wednesday trilateral session was to form a national congregation of all Syrian sides to let all races, ethnicities, religions and active parties of Syria, whether proponents of the current Syrian administration or the opposition groups, get together in near future in Sochi to discuss and exchange views on the future of Syria and pave the way for drafting the new Constitution.

Turkish Presiden Erdogan also hoped fruitful cooperation between Turkey, Russia, Iran leads to positive results.
