TEHRAN (Iran News) – Bratislava Urged to Support Iranian Companies. Chairman of the Iran-Slovakia Joint Trade Committee Mr. Jabbar Kianipour says the trade volume between Iran and Slovakia has sharply declined in recent years and in order to improve bilateral trade relation, problems of businessmen regarding visa, investment and banking transactions should be resolved.

In the meeting with Ambassador of Slovakia and its commercial attache, Kianipour revealed the problems of Iranian businessmen in trade with Slovakia.

Kianipour pointed to the approach of the new Slovak Ambassador H.E. Ladislav Ballek regarding the economy and expressed hope that with the new diplomatic team of Slovakia in Tehran, both countries could solve problems of their businessmen for bilateral trade and investment.

He also called for setting up a special committee in Bratislava under the supervision of the chamber of commerce of this country under the name of Iran-Slovakia Commercial Committee which is considered very crucial for developing the bilateral trade.

Kianipour noted that both countries enjoy having good potentials for boosting bilateral trade and Slovakia can use Iran market for flooding its products into its neighboring states and allies. He added by the way, Slovakia can be a gateway for the arrival of Iranian goods and services into EU states.

He went on to say that he expects Slovakia to take action for easing visa issuance for Iranian traders and the process forhvisa should be shorter.

He admitted that the trade between both states gas declined sharply, adding that Iran’s imports from Slovakia were around $22m in 2017 which fell to $5.2m in 2019. He added that at the same time, Iran’s exports have been almost halved.

Kianipour also stipulated that Iranian companies have set up companies or invested in Slovakia and each has spent over 50,000 euros per year but they have not received enough support from the government.

Then Slovak Ambassador Ballek, for his part, expressed his satisfaction regarding Iranians’ interests for investment in Slovakia and expressed hope the new diplomatic team in the embassy would do their best to boost the trade between both states.

He also rejected some reports about the amount of investment for launching company and staying in Slovakia, noting that if any one who is interested in investing in Slovakia, he can contact with the embassy for getting necessary information to reduce their cost of investment because they need the primary investment of 5000 euros.

Ballek admitted that all banks in Slovakia are private and the Americans a least own five percent of their shares and they have to obey the sanctions against Iran.

According To Iran News, At least seven people died and dozens were injured in a gas explosion that rocked a 12-story building in eastern Slovakia, police said on Saturday.

Local police chief Jan Golias said one person was still missing after the fire in the town of Presov, 400 kilometers (250 miles) from the capital Bratislava.

About 100 firefighters battled the blaze, which hit the top four or five floors of the building and led to warnings from the fire service that the structure could collapse, local media reported.

The initial explosion was reported at noon on Friday, with last fires being put out by Saturday morning.

“We estimated the number of injured at 40,” Alena Krcova, a rescue services spokeswoman, told AFP.

A hospital spokeswoman told local media that nine people were treated at her facility in the immediate aftermath of the explosion, none of whom was in a critical condition.

Police had earlier said in a statement on Facebook that 11 people had been killed in the blaze but the post was later deleted.

Golias gave the death toll as seven following “updated information”, without specifying further.

On Sunday, head of Jasuj Chamber of Commerce Jabbar Kianpoor met visiting head of Bratislava’s Chamber of Commerce Mr. Igor Jonas during the meeting, both sides explored ways for boosting trade between Iran and Slovakia.

IRAN NEWS ECONOMIC DESK

During the meeting, head of Bratislava Chamber of Commerce Mr. Jonas pointed to the 110 percent growth in the trade turnover between both states in 2019, adding that this surge in the bilateral trade is due to visits of trade delegations of both states in 2018 and 2019.

He said those Iranian business persons who have problems in return of their money to Iran can contact with the Bratislava Chamber of Commerce in order their problems to be resolved.

Mr. Kianpoor, for his part, said that Iran due to its huge capacities and significant market can be a good trade partner for European states and Bratislava can be a good gateway for Iran’s goods to enter European markets.

He expressed hope that the joint economic commission of Iran-Slovakia which was to be held in July and postponed to 2020 would resolve the problems of Iranian business activists in Slovakia.

He pointed to some problems of Iranian business activists like blocked accounts of them, adding some of them are being resolved after talks and some of them are getting complicated than before, and it is expected those problems to be solved during Slovakian Central Bank governor’s visit to Tehran to join the joint commission meeting.

Last month Iran’s outgoing Ambassador to Slovakia Ebadollah Molaei met and held talks with Slovakian Deputy Foreign Minister Lukas Parizek in Bratislava.

During the farewell meeting, the two sides discussed prospects of Tehran-Bratislava economic and trade cooperation and shared ideas on the ways to expand ties in a wide gamut of political, economic and cultural fields.

Molaei also referred to the recent international developments regarding the 2015 nuclear deal and the US’ hostile policies against the Islamic Republic, urging the need for European countries to show commitments to the deal and gear up the efforts to salvage the pact.
