Portuguese skiers laud Iranian hospitality

Portugal ski members participating at the 2019 World Para Snowboard /Asian Cup said that the hospitality and respect they have received from Iranian people are amazing.

The international event was held in Dizin resort on Feb.4 and 5 with participation of para skiers from Iran, Portugal, Turkey and Azerbaijan.

Established in 1969, Dizin is the most important ski area not only in Iran but the Middle East, a region not noted for much snow except at higher elevations in winter.

Located some 120km north of Tehran, Dizin is equipped with three gondolas and 12 chairlifts.

“It’s amazing. The Iran Sports Federation for Disabled has organized the competition very well. The competition is far better than expected,” Portugal coach Mancha said. “We are very pleased with Iranian hospitality. I hope we can participate in the competition next year.”

Dizin reaches an altitude of 3,600 meters. The snow-capped highlands above Tehran are home to some of the world’s top ski resorts which offer powder chasers refuge from the hustle and bustle of city life.

“First, I would like to thanks the Iranians for such a warm welcome to us. It was a great experience for me to participate in this competition. We have no good ski resort in our country and Dizin is one of the best resorts in the world,” Pedro said.

Reduced snowfall in Dizin Ski Resort

TEHRAN – The Dizin area is located north of the capital Tehran, on the Alborz and Tehran mountain borders; it is considered as one of the snowy areas each year, but now it has been covered only by a thin snow layer and even without snow in some places.

Two skiers win title at Erzurum campaign Day 1

Two Iranian skiers managed to win gold medals on the first day of international alpine skiing event underway in Erzurum of Turkey.

On the opening day of Erzurum alpine skiing campaign, Iran’s Hossein Saveh Shemshaki came first in Men’s section while his compatriot, Atefeh Ahmadi, stood on top of the podium in the Women’s division.

Moreover, Mohammad Kiadarbandsari presented eye-catching athletic skills and collected a silver medal on Day 1 of the international sportive event.

A Skier from Hungary landed third in the Men’s competitions winning the bronze trophy.

In women’s group, Iran’s Ahmadi was followed by two athletes from host country Turkey who stood in second and third places overall.

Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the sport or recreation of sliding down snow-covered hills on skis with fixed-heel bindings. It is characterized by the requirement for mechanical assistance getting to the top of the hill, since the equipment does not allow efficient walking or hiking, unlike cross-country skis which use free-heel bindings.

It is typically practiced at ski resorts which provide services such as ski lifts, artificial snow making and grooming, first aid, and restaurants. Alpine skiing has been an event at the Winter Olympic Games since 1936

Dizin: The Largest Iranian Ski Resort

TEHRAN – Dizin is a ski resort north of Tehran in Alborz mountains and is located only 71km (43 miles) north of the Iranian capital.

The resort is available from Tehran by 2 roads, one is the upper via Shemshak (71 km – The road is now and again shut because of substantial snow) and the other one is via the city of Karaj (120 km).

The most elevated ski lift achieves 3,600 m (11,800 ft.), making it one of the 40 most astounding ski resorts in the world.

The ski season in Dizin keeps going longer than European ski resorts (from December to May).

The air is likewise drier than at a considerable measure of European resorts. The high number of sunny days makes it an amazing spot for ski occasions.
