“We are still awaiting for the practical solutions to deliver on commitments to Iran in the proposed package of Europe and this issue is still being negotiated,” said Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs.

“All interactions we have had with European countries have led to a set of commitments they have made to us which have been included in their proposed package,” added the Iranian senior diplomat, during an interview on Monday.

“This package covers various areas like the fields of oil and gas, insurance and banking, and all the demands of Iran from the JCPOA. We are still waiting for the package, to provide operational solutions for the fulfillment of these commitments. The issue is still under negotiation,” said Mr. Araghchi.

“The deadline set for Europe’s package is August 4 when an initial round of US sanctions against Iran would come back into effect and naturally all practical mechanisms to ensure Iran’ demands should be finalized by then,” Mr. Araghchi asserted.

“All sanctions won’t come back on August 4 and the second round of sanctions will snap back on November 4 and during the three month period between the two rounds we have the chance to work on operational solutions for the next rounds of sanctions,” he said.

TEHRAN – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Sunday that a meeting of the joint commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) will take place in Vienna on Friday to discuss the U.S. exit from the multilateral nuclear agreement.

The commission will be convened upon Iran’s request, Araqchi said on the sidelines of a closed session of parliament.

The joint commission was set up by the six world powers, Iran and the European Union to handle any complaints about the nuclear deal’s implementation.

“On Friday, the joint commission … will be held at Iran’s request, and without the United States, to discuss the consequences of America’s withdrawal, and how the remaining countries can continue their commitment to the deal,” Araqchi explained.

Since Trump’s exit from the nuclear pact on May 8 Iran has been seeking guarantees that its economic interests are protected otherwise it will resume nuclear activities at a greater speed.

According to the nuclear deal, Iran is tasked to put limits on its nuclear activities in exchange for termination of economic and financial sanctions.

The deal was signed in July 2015 and went into force in January 2016.

Federica Mogherini, the EU foreign policy chief, issued a statement on Friday saying that the 28-nation bloc is united in preserving the international nuclear deal.

In a press conference in Tehran on Saturday, European Commissioner for Energy and Climate Miguel Arias Canete said, “We have sent a message to our Iranian friends that as long as they are sticking to the (nuclear) agreement the Europeans will… fulfill their commitment.”

Canete tried to reassure Iran that the EU remained committed to salvaging the nuclear deal after the U.S. pullout.

According to Iranian State TV ‘IRIB’, Iran Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyed Abbas Araghchi said that the nuclear deal has been the main issue discussed during his recent trips to the European countries.

In relation to his recent trip to the UK, Araghchi said that he had had good discussions on bilateral relations and the implementation of the JCPOA with the British authorities.

Araghchi told the Iranian state TV that the nuclear deal is not renegotiable and none of its provisions are amendable.

Iran’s deputy foreign minister added that in the detailed discussions with the British Minister for the Middle East Alistair Burt, they had had talked about the nuclear deal, adding that a closer understanding between the two countries would be more effective in that regard.

Pointing out that Iran’s approach to the JCPOA is clear, Araghchi said “as long as our interests are secured, we will remain in the agreement,” adding that Iran has so far been ‘considerably’ enjoying the benefits of the deal.

The head of Iran’s JCPOA follow-up committee said Mon. that the country’s main objective in nuclear negotiations with 5+1 was to establish its right to nuclear energy, not to merely call for sanctions relief.

Iranian deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Abbas Araghchi, who also heads the follow-up committee on JCPOA, made the remarks in a televised interview Monday night, adding “the sanctions relief was not our main concern, but one of our key demands during the negotiations. Our main concern for agreeing to sit down at the negotiating table was to establish Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy.”

“I do not believe that our negotiations with the 5+1 was solely aimed at sanctions relief,” Araghchi added. “That the international community and UN Security Council recognized and respected our right to nuclear energy was enough for us.”

Araghchi stressed that all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran have been lifted under the JCPOA.

“What we consider as US’ violation of commitments under the nuclear deal, and have reported to the joint commission, is that the Trump administration is trying to undermine the spirit of the deal [and spoil its positive outcomes for Iran] more vigorously than ever,” Araghchi said.

He added that the US visa restrictions for Iranian nationals was an attempt at undermining the ‘JCPOA atmosphere’, but not a blatant violation of the agreement.

“For Washington, the flaw in the nuclear agreement is that it does not include Iran’s missile program,” Araghchi said, stressing that the JCOPA is non-negotiable and Iran’s missile program will never be included in it.

“The prices we paid for the nuclear deal are reversible,” Araghchi said, adding that it was not the case for the US. “If Mr. Trump was not afraid of the price the US would pay, he would have withdrawn from the agreement a long time ago.”

“The region and the world are in chaos, and canceling the JCPOA will definitely not make the world any more secure,” he concluded.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Secretary General of ‎France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maurice Gourdault-Montagne held the fourth round of political talks between the Islamic Republic and the Western European country.

In the meeting in Paris on Wednesday, Araqchi and Gourdault-Montagne exchanged views about a range of issues, including ways to promote bilateral relations between Iran and France in diverse areas.

Araqchi pointed to the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), stressing the need for all parties to the nuclear agreement to remain committed to their obligations under the JCPOA.

He also called on the European side to adopt a more transparent stance on the obstacles in the way of implementing the JCPOA and certain countries’ measures to undermine the deal.

The French diplomat, for his part, said his country backs the development of cooperation between French companies and the Islamic Republic.

Gourdault-Montagne also hailed a 250 percent increase in the volume of bilateral trade between the two countries over the past two years.

“Iran is enjoying an unprecedented approval rate and support in the world today,” asserted the Iranian diplomat, hailing what he called the growing influence of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region. “As the Leader referred to in last week, Iran had never had as much strength, might, and influence in the region in the history, as it has today,” he maintained.

TEHRAN – The Islamic Republic of Iran and the European Union held their third round of high level talks in Tehran on Monday.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi and Helga Schmid, the EU’s deputy political director, headed the meeting.

Iran and the EU have already held two rounds of talks in Tehran and Brussels since the implementation of the nuclear deal in January 2016.

The Iran-EU talks focus on issues such as economy, environment, human rights, transportation, energy and latest developments in the Middle East.

The Iran-EU talks are scheduled to be continued in Isfahan on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, the spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said on Monday that the Iranian and EU officials plan to discuss nuclear cooperation on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, was signed by Iran, the European Union, Germany and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia in July 2015.

In his new Iran strategy declared on October 13, U.S. President Donald Trump decertified the nuclear deal and asked Congress to decide about the fate of the agreement.

Congress now has to decide whether to reimpose economic sanctions on Tehran that were lifted under the deal. Trump said if Congress does nothing he himself will terminate the deal.

The EU has expressed support for the nuclear deal.

Federica Mogherini, the EU’s foreign policy chief, said on November 10 that the European Union will make sure that the nuclear deal “will continue to be fully implemented by all, in all its parts”.
