The CEO of Iranian holding Sina Energy Development Company (SEDCO) said the country does not rely on foreigners to repair offshore oil rigs anymore.

Javad Owji said local experts have obtained the technical know-how to repair the drilling rigs in the oil and gas fields in the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman.

The homegrown rigs are used in both vertical and horizontal directional drilling for oil and gas extraction, he added.

Owji said the drilling rigs were sent abroad for repair and renovation in the past, but the domestic maintenance of the equipment has helped the country save up to $6 million for each rig.

Iranian companies have constructed and installed nearly all offshore platforms of the South Pars gas field south of Iran.

The gas field, whose development has been divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf straddling the maritime border between Iran and Qatar.

It covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers belongs to Iran.

It is estimated that the Iranian section of the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensates in place.

Making the remarks during his one-day trip to West Azarbaijan Province, he said that wheat harvesting in southern provinces under projects of International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) and Participatory Varietal Selection (PVS) have started as of two months ago.

The official informed that thanks to the recent flash-floods in southern provinces, in particular Khouzestan, wheat production has increased by 30 percent in comparison with the preceding year.

He described that the recent precipitations have increased wheat production in the current year and up to the present time, the government has purchased 1.2 million tons of wheat from the farmers.

As previously reported, Iran’s self-sufficiency rate in wheat production has increased from 65 percent in the Iranian calendar year of 1392 (March 2013-March 2014) to 105 percent in the current year (which ends on March 20, 2019).

The International Center for Agriculture Research in the Dry Areas, a member of the CGIAR, supported by the CGIAR Fund, is a non-profit agricultural research institute that aims to improve the livelihoods of the resource-poor across the world’s dry areas.

One potential means of encouraging farmer confidence in new varieties is Participatory Varietal Selection (PVS), providing farmers a choice of crop varieties which are matched to their specific needs. PVS schemes throughout the world, across multiple farming systems, are generating impressive results and the approach is now being applied in Morocco through the EU-IFAD initiative, managed by ICARDA (within the frame of the CGIAR Research Program on Grain Legumes) and targeting strengthened wheat-legume production systems across North Africa and West Asia.

ICARDA has conducted successful researches on how to beat the wheat bug in Iran and the country plans to resolve problems in agricultural section by developing practical researches in cooperation with the international body.

Addressing the 2nd Marine Propulsion Conference at Tehran’s Sharif University of Technology on Monday, Rear Admiral Amir Rastegari said, “we are currently cooperating with a large number of domestic and foreign companies in the field of marine propulsion systems,” adding that the country is moving toward self-sufficiency in this field.

Along with the plan, the design and development of gasoline and diesel engines, power transmission systems, propulsion equipment, and monitoring systems are high on the ministry’s agenda, he noted.

Rear Admiral Rastegari said that the domestic experts are working to develop an indigenous 25 MW marine gas turbine, which is a highly applicable system in marine vessels.

Iran has made considerable progress in the field of marine vessels, especially in the design and manufacture of submarines and destroyers.

Last week, the senior military chief announced that the construction of a heavy destroyer weighing 6,500 tons is on Defense Ministry’s agenda.

He made the remarks in a press conference in Tehran on Wednesday, on the threshold of the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution’s victory.

General Sayyari pointed to the global arrogance’s efforts to undermine the Islamic Revolution during the past four decades, saying that the enemies have embarked on any kind of measure through all these years to hit the country, but “all of their plots have been foiled” by the Islamic Republic’s achievements in different aspects.

“Before the 1979, the enemies tried to hinder the Islamic Revolution’s victory with the help of General Huyser… After the Revolution, they turned to other strategies such as stirring up ethnic and religious divisions, committing acts of terror, military invasion to Tabas, and igniting the eight-year Iraq-Iran war,” General Sayyari said, adding that however, none of their efforts have come to fruition.

Referring to the country’s achievements and self-sufficiency in multiple economic and political aspects, the army commander reiterated that “despite the enemies’ ill-wished plans, the Islamic Republic has proved its integrity and significant role in the region and the world.”

Manufacturing required parts and equipment inside the country has been put atop agenda since 1993, he said, adding, “this issue caused the country not to face critical problem in this respect especially in sanctions period.”

The self-sufficiency process began with manufacturing smaller parts including nuts and bolts, flanges and fittings, he maintained.

Given the above issue, expert engineers of the company took giant strides in manufacturing more complex and complicated components such as mechanics of fluids for pumps, etc.

Presently, the country has gained salient achievements in manufacturing oil pipelines and telecommunications systems in such a way that some domestic companies have voiced their readiness to manufacture advanced turbines for world’s most prestigious companies, he said, adding, “for example, the latest contract concluded in this regard is related to manufacturing four 3-MW gas turbines along with its accessories.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Jafarinasab said that IOPTC possesses more than 165 gas turbines within the framework of 16 models manufactured by foreign companies. Therefore, planning has been made for self-sufficiency of manufacturing relevant parts and equipment since 20 years ago due to the international restrictions.

In conclusion, CEO of IOPTC pointed to naming the current year after “Supporting Iranian Products” as emphasized by supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and said, “IOPTC will make its utmost effort in line with materializing most objectives of this company in the current year (started March 21, 2018).”
