‘Wander About Me’ to go on screen at Cyprus Intl. Filmfest.

Iranian feature ‘Wander About Me’, directed by Ghazaleh Soltani will be screened at 13th edition of Cyprus International Film Festival to be held June 23-July 1 in Cyprus.

Soltani’s film narrates the story of a woman who tries to reach her goals in Tehran as she is pushing 30. Her role is played by actress Meharveh Sharifinia.

Besides the lead actor, Behnaz Jafary, Soosan Maghsoodlou, Nasrin Nakisa and Negar Fathi play in the movie.

The Cyprus International Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Cyprus. The festival takes place in Nicosia and Pafos in cooperation with the Cultural International Festivals. The International Film Festival of Cyprus operates since 2006 as an independent non-profit organization. CYIFF is the first international film festival held in Cyprus with a “competition section” in categories that include feature, short, animation, video art/dance/music, humanitarian, sport, and children films, devoted exclusively to independent emerging filmmakers.

‘AVA’ receives 8 nominations from Canadian Screen Awards

TEHRAN – ‘Ava’, the first feature film by Sadaf Foroughi, received eight nominations from the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television which gives the Canadian Screen Awards to the best films in Canadian cinema, has nominated ‘Ava’ in eight categories. It is the first time an Iranian film has been nominated for these awards.

Canadian Screen Awards, the most outstanding cinematic event in Canada, enjoys the same reputation as the Academy Awards in the US, and BAFTA in Britain.

‘Ava’ has been nominated for the best Motion picture award, and Sadaf Foroughi has received nominations for the best original screenplay and the best director. Mahour Jabbari who plays the role of Ava has been nominated for the best actress award; Bahar Noohian has been nominated for the best supporting actress award; Kiarash Anvari has received a nomination for the best editing; Siamak Karinejad has won a nomination for the best production design; and Sina Kermanizadeh has been nominated for the best cinematography.

‘Ava’ received FIPRESCI Discovery Prize and Honorable Mention for the Best First Film from Toronto International Film Festival.

‘Ava’ tells the story of a 17 year old girl who decides to change her own life and the lives of her family and her friends, featuring Mahour Jabbari, Bahar Noohian, Vahid Aghapoor, Parnian Akhtari, Leili Rashidi and Shayesteh Sajadi.

Hamilton Film Festival to screen Iranian films

TEHRAN – Eight Iranian films will be screened at the Hamilton Film Festival in Canada during November, the organizers have announced.

Kazem Mollai’s drama “Kupal” will go on screen in the feature section and Ali Nikfar’s “Kayyam Khani” has been selected for the music film section.

“Numbness” by Milad Jarmuz will be screened in the experimental short film section of the festival, which will be held in Hamilton, Ontario from November 4 to 12.

“Servant” by Farnush Abedi, “Ascribed Achievements” by Samaneh Shojaei, “Light Sight” by Seyyed Moslem Tabatabai and “Ruhangiz” by Elmira Baqerzadeh will be competing in the animated short section.

“Share of Share” by Kaveh Jahed will go on screen in the drama short category.
