Iran’s Economy Grows 5.7% in One Year: SCI

TEHRAN (Iran News) –In this period, the mining and mineral sector registered a 6.9 percent growth, followed by the services and agricultural sectors with 5.7 percent and -2.2 percent growth compared to the same period last year, the SCI reported.

The export and import of goods and services also registered a 13 percent and a 9.5 percent growth respectively compared to a year earlier, the report added.

Monthly red meat production rises 69% yr/yr

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Monthly red meat production rises 69% yr/yr. Statistical Center of Iran (SCI) announced that production of red meat in Iran stood at 51,307 tons in the third month of the current Iranian calendar year (May 22 – June 21), showing 69 percent growth compared to the same month in the past year.

The SCI’s report said that beef and veal had the lion’s share in the country’s red meat output during the third month with 28,483 tons, followed by lamb and mutton with 18,708 tons, goat meat with 3,133 tons, and red meat from other livestock with 983 tons.

Also, the amount of red meat supply in the official slaughterhouses of the country in the third month of this year has increased by about 12.1 percent compared to the previous month.

Iran’s deputy agriculture minister, Morteza Rezaei, has said that currently the per capita consumption of red meat is 12.5 kilograms, chicken meat 31.25 kilograms, raw milk 124 kilograms, eggs 11.72 kilograms and honey 1.35 kilograms in the country.

Iran is among the leading consumers of red meat in the West Asia region with lamb being the most sought after.

However, the consumption per person is around a third of what is normally seen in countries like the U.S. and Australia, mainly due to the prohibition of pork in Islamic law.

The major part of Iran’s red meat imports comes from countries like Brazil, where Iranian supervisors directly control culling methods to ensure they comply with religious rules.

Inflation rate up 2%: SCI

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Statistical Center of Iran (SCI) announced that the inflation rate in the twelve-month period ended on April 20, which marks the end of the second Iranian calendar month of Ordibehesht, stood at 41 percent, rising two percent from the figure for the twelve-month period ended on the last day of the first month.

SCI has put the country’s point-to-point inflation rate at 46.9 percent in the mentioned month; it means that the families have paid an average of 46.9 percent more for purchasing the same package of commodities and services compared to the same month of its previous year.

The point-to-point inflation rate was 2.6 percent less than the figure for the previous month.

At the same time, the point-to-point inflation rate for urban households was reported to be 46.1 percent, which is 2.7 percent less than the figure for the previous month.

Back in April, SCI had put the inflation rate at 36.7 percent in the urban areas of Tehran province in the last month of the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20). The center put the figure at 35.8 percent in the rural regions of the province.

The SCI announced that the inflation rate has risen 0.6 percent in the country’s urban areas in the last month of the past year.

The center has announced that the inflation rate in the twelve-month period ended on March 20, which marks the end of the last month of the past Iranian calendar year, stood at 36.4 percent, rising 2.2 percent from the figure for the twelve-month period ended on the last day of the eleventh month of that year.

Iran Nominal GDP Growth,1.55 percent: SCI

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) had a growth of 1.55 percent on the base-year 2011-2012 as reported by the Statistical Center of Iran (SCI) on July 5.

Publishing its economic data for the fiscal year 1398 (ending March 19, 2020), the SCI reported that total the country’s GDP over the past calendar year had reached 7,037,972 trillion rials, or more than $372 billion, based on the base-year exchange rate of 18,900 for the rial against the US dollar, Press TV reported.

Iran had reported a GDP of 6,929,905 trillion rials (over $366 billion) for the year 1390 (ending March 2012). The nominal GDP for the year ending March 2020 declined by seven percent compared to the previous year while the GDP without oil shrank by six percent for a similar period, showed the SCI figures.

However, Press TV’s own analysis of off-the-record SCI charts related to the GDP calculations from 2011 to 2020 showed that Iran had seen its economic output declined by almost 40 percent over the period in question.

The figures showed that total GDP in the year ending March 2020 had reached 34,160,313 trillion rials, which amounts to $221 billion once calculated based on an average annual exchange rate of 154,343 for the Iranian rial against the US dollar.

The value of Iran’s nominal GDP could drop albeit at a lower rate at the end of the current fiscal year as the rial is currently trading at a record low of 218,500 against the greenback.

The charts by the SCI showed it estimates the GDP for the year ending March 2021 would stand at 36,551,535 trillion rials (over $167 billion based on current exchange rate), a contraction of more than 24 percent year on year.

A worst-case scenario based on SCI figures showed that the rial could fall as low as 437,251 against the dollar, meaning that a larger GDP of 43,725,200 trillion rials for the current fiscal year would equal $100 billion.
