Yemeni forces on Tuesday stepped up their attacks against Saudi mercenaries in Ma’rib and liberated the seventh military zone of Yemen, the Arabic-language al-Khabar al-Yemeni news website reported of gains.

The militants and their allied tribesmen were forced to flee the area and take cover in the areas of Nakhla and al-Saheel as the Yemeni troops continued to advance.

In a separate development, the Yemeni fighters advanced on the al-Jobe front, the report added.

The Yemeni army has sent thousands of fighters to the province over the past couple of weeks to expel forces loyal to the ex-government. So far, several Yemeni tribes have signed agreements with Houthi Ansarullah movement’s leaders to spare their areas from fighting while talks continue with other tribes in the region to sign similar deals.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has been conducting a bloody military aggression in Yemen with help from its regional allies, and using arms supplied by its Western backers. The aim of the war has been to bring Yemen’s former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power and defeat the Houthi Ansarullah movement.

Yemeni armed forces have been boosting their military capabilities and responding to the attacks using domestic missiles and drones, and targeting sensitive oil installations and military sites deep inside the Saudi territory.

Since 2015, over 100,000 people have been killed, according to the US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED).

TEHRAN (Iran News) – US Secretary-General Antonio Guterres took the Saudi-led coalition waging war on Yemen off a global blacklist of parties whose actions have harmed children in conflict, a move that drew immediate protests from human rights groups.

The UN chief’s annual report to the Security Council on Children and Armed Conflict released Monday removed the coalition from a relatively new list of government forces and armed groups “that have put in place measures … aimed at improving the protection of children,” despite his finding that the coalition was responsible for the killing and maiming of 222 children last year including 171 from airstrikes.

The report was issued as the Houthi Ansarullah movement reported that an airstrike from the Saudi-led coalition struck a vehicle carrying civilians in northern Yemen on Monday, killing 13 people, including four children.

Virginia Gamba, the UN special representative for children in armed conflict, told a news conference launching the report that the secretary-general made the decision to remove the Saudis from the “blacklist” following “the sustained, significant decrease in killing and maiming due to airstrikes.”

Jo Becker, Human Rights Watch’s children’s rights advocacy director, accused the secretary-general of adding a new level of shame to his ‘list of shame’ by removing the Saudi-led coalition and ignoring the UN’s own evidence of continued grave violations against children.”

Adrianne Lapar, director of Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict, an international advocacy group, said that by removing the Saudi-led coalition, which also includes the United Arab Emirates, “the secretary-general sends the message that powerful actors can get away with killing children.”

She called for an independent and transparent assessment of the process of de-listing the coalition, “to ensure that all violators are held to the same standard, no matter who they or their friends are.” Gamba replied in response to a question on whether Saudi Arabia offered the UN any incentives to get off the list, “absolutely not.”

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched the devastating war on Yemen in March 2015 in order to bring former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power and crush the Houthi Ansarullah movement.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the war has claimed more than 100,000 lives over the past five years.

More than half of Yemen’s hospitals and clinics have been destroyed or closed during the war by the Saudi-led coalition, which is supported militarily by the UK, US and other Western nations.

At least 80 percent of the 28 million-strong population is also reliant on aid to survive in what the United Nations has called the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, said Monday that Mr. Guterres was concerned about the developments in war-torn Yemen, and urged all “relevant stakeholders” to “exercise maximum restraint and refrain from any actions that would further escalate the situation”.

“The Secretary-General calls on all to engage in an inclusive dialogue to resolve their differences and address the legitimate concerns of all Yemenis, including those of southern groups,” Dujarric said.

The spokesman added that Mr. Guterres calls on the parties to conduct concentrated efforts on countering the spread of COVID-19, and responding to the flooding that has affected tens of thousands of Yemenis.

“The Secretary-General reaffirms the need to preserve the integrity of Yemeni institutions and emphasizes that the conflict in Yemen can only be resolved through a negotiated political settlement”.

The UN chief and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held talks on Yemen’s situation on Tuesday.

They emphasized the need for reopening and ensuring the security of borders and ports in Yemen to deliver humanitarian aids to people, particularly at the time of the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has welcomed the UN secretary-general’s call for a global halt in armed clashes amid the coronavirus outbreak, saying Tehran supports any initiative ending the war against people of Yemen and the blockade of the impoverished country.

In the past 24 hours, Saudi military aircraft conducted 26 strikes against areas across Yemen, Brigadier General Yahya Saree said.

He added that the provinces of Jawf, Ma’rib, and Sa’ada were each bombed 15, 8 and 3 times, respectively.

The assaults come days after the Saudi-led coalition claimed it was halting military operations in Yemen in support of UN efforts to end the five-year war and avoid the outbreak of the coronavirus in war-wracked Yemen.

In a report released on Sunday, Yemen’s Legal Center for Rights and Development, an independent monitoring group, put the civilian death toll in the war-torn Arab country at 16,075. The fatalities, it said, comprise 3,901 children and 2,462 women.

The rights body said the bombings have also wounded 41,476 civilians, including 4,220 children and 3,039 women.

Armed with American and British ammunition and European warplanes, among other Western-supported military hardware, the kingdom launched the campaign against Yemen in March 2015.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Secretary-General of Hezbollah Resistance Movement Sayed Hassan Nasrallah said the international community must stop turning a blind eye on Saudi crimes in Yemen and put pressure on the regime to end its aggression against the impoverished Arab country.

All countries should press Saudi Arabia to stop the war against Yemen due to humanitarian reasons, Nasrallah said in a televised speech on Saturday evening.

Saudi Arabia launched its war on Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing back to power the government of former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi and crushing the popular Houthi Ansarullah movement.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the Saudi war has claimed more than 100,000 lives since the war broke out.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Nasrallah referred to the coronavirus pandemic, saying, “Preventive measures can be taken to guarantee a safe return to the expatriates to Lebanon.”

“Whatever the threats are, the Lebanese authorities must respond to the pleas of the expatriates”, he said, adding “All the Lebanese locked in corona-hit countries have the right to return to their country.”

He asked all people to respect curfew and all measures taken by the government to contain the outbreak of coronavirus.

Nasrallah also urged all politicians and parties to set aside political disputes and cooperate to fight the problem.

The Hezbollah chief said the fight against coronavirus is a long term war and what is being done is the beginning of the war and asked for a national mobilization in Lebanon to tackle the problem.

The experiences of all countries’ should be utilized in the fight, he added.

He said that the war against coronavirus is, in fact, a world war, adding that countries such as the US and UK are following the issue with inability and confusion.

“What we are facing now is more important than the first and second world wars,” he warned, adding, “We don’t know whether the EU and the US will collapse or not.”

Yemen’s Houthi on Sunday wrested control of a strategic city in the north of Yemen i.e., al-Hazm, the capital of the province of al-Jawf, following weeks of fighting with forces backed by Saudi-led allies.

According to a Jordanian political analyst, the control of Houthis on al-Jawf can be translated as failure of the new Saudi-Emirati military coalition.

“Taking control of Hazm is of significance for Houthis have improved towards the Saudi borders,” he said in a televised program on Al Jazeera.

“The Saudi-UAE coalition entered Yemen to restore the legitimacy of Mansour Hadi’s government, but gained no military achievements.”

“What happened in Jawf was probably tactical and gradual, but not militarily or strategically easy because it means the Houthis are approaching Saudi Arabia and destruction of Mansour Hadi” he added.

On the same program, an official from Political Office of Ansarallah said, “Saudi Arabia is currently negotiating security, areas, and depths of its territory, not Yemen because the Saudis have no right in Yemen.”

At least 30 civilians, including women and children, lost their lives after Saudi jets conducted eight aerial assaults on Jawf’s al-Maslub district, Al-Masirah TV channel reported.

The strikes, it added, targeted people who had gathered near the wreckage of a Saudi jet that had been shot down by Yemeni forces on Friday evening.

Yemeni air defense units managed to target and shoot down a Saudi fighter jet of Tornado type in the skies of Jawf in retaliation for the Riyadh regime’s ongoing aggression against the Arab country.

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched a devastating campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power and crushing the Houthi Ansarullah movement.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the war has claimed more than 100,000 lives over the past nearly five years.

The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.

Nine ships carry some 240,000 tons of fuel and one of them is carrying flour, he told the Arabic language al-Masirah television network, adding that the detainment comes as all the ships have already obtained the required permits. He said that the aggression forces are preventing the ships from entering the key port of Hudaydah.

He pointed out that these ships have been in detention since the beginning of last November, and the first vessel has been held for 51 days.

He held the aggression forces and the United Nations responsible for the repeated violations of the Sweden agreement.

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies, as Saudi-led coalition, launched a devastating campaign against Yemen in March 2015 and impeded Yemeni ships from transport, with the goal of bringing the government of former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crushing the Houthi Ansarullah movement.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the war has claimed more than 100,000 lives over the past four and a half years.

The war has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories. The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.
