TEHRAN (Iran News) – Head of Iran-South Korea Joint Chamber of Commerce refuted some reports and allegations that Iran is to import LG and Samsung home appliance products from South Korea in exchange for Iran’s frozen assets in this country.

Some media outlets have claimed that the U.S. Administration has let South Korea sell LG and Samsung products in exchange for Iran’s frozen assets.

But Pouya Firouzi in an interview with ILNA refuted this allegation and said that this report is baseless, adding that after contact with Soul, the chamber learned that the report is baseless because there has not been such an issue.

He added that in the past there were some talks on payment of Iran’s debts to the Korean companies from its frozen assets in Seoul and it dates back to the pre-reimposition of sanctions.

Firouzi reiterated that in case Iran’s assets are released, the country’s priority is not the import of home appliance and import of medical and health commodities are on the top of the list.

He said the chamber has several meetings with Korean officials and they have been informed of Iran’s concerns.

He reiterated that macro decisions like releasing the funds and ways of release will be made through the governments and so far no opening has happened.

Late August, the South Korean ambassador to Tehran said that his country seeks to revive trade relations with Iran, adding that Iran’s dissatisfaction with South Korea’s stance on U.S. sanctions is sensible.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the head of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce in Tehran.

Yun Kang-hyeon pointed to a previous meeting he had held with the former Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, saying that the then Iranian president had expressed his frustration with the South Korean stance on the U.S. sanctions against Iran.

He said that the U.S. sanctions against Iran harmed both the Iranian nation in the first place as well as the Korean economy to a lesser extent.

He put the amount of frozen Iranian assets in South Korea at $7 billion, saying that his country is interested in paying back the blocked financial resources to Iran in necessary ways.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned on Sunday that companies which accompany the U.S. in its “maximum pressure” policy against Iran and leave the Iranian market will face difficulty to return to the country in the future.

“The companies which left Iran have lost a market that cannot retake easily,” ISNA quoted Araghchi as saying on Sunday.

He added that Iran will not forget the countries’ behavior in difficult times.

Samsung and its fellow South Korean company LG Electronics – for which Iran has been a key market in the Middle East – reportedly pulled down their last advertisement banners in Iran on Friday.

The two companies had cut their trade relations with Tehran in the past months, submitting to U.S. sanctions imposed on Iran after Washington withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi tweeted on Friday, “Some foreign companies, which have left Iran in recent years and months submitting to the U.S. bullying, should know that returning to the Iranian market will be very difficult.”

According to trade principles, keeping one’s foothold in a country’s market is harder than entering it, he said.

In his post, Mousavi also attached a photo of workers removing a banner of the South Korean company Samsung in Iran.

U.S. President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew the U.S. from the multilateral 2015 nuclear deal in May 2018 and introduced the harshest ever sanctions against Iran under his officially stated “maximum pressure” strategy.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran Foreign Ministry warned that foreign companies leaving the country due to US sanctions will not be able to return to the country’s market easily.

“Certain foreign companies which have left Iran in recent years and months – submitting to the banditry of the United States – should know that returning to the Iranian market will be much more difficult than entering it,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi tweeted on Friday, Press TV reported.

“The principles of trade maintain that conserving one’s foothold in a market is harder than entering one,” he said, adding that Iranians will also “not forget friends who stand at their side at times of hardship.”

The spokesperson attached a photo of workers removing a banner of South Korea’s tech giant Samsung in Iran.

The tweet came as Samsung and its fellow South Korean company LG Electronics – for which Iran has been a key market in the Middle East – reportedly pulled down their last advertisement banners in Iran on Friday.

The two companies had cut their trade relations with Tehran in the past months, submitting to US sanctions imposed on Iran after Washington withdrew from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal in May 2018.

Both companies enjoyed major home appliances sales in Iran, being popular brands for items such as TV sets, air conditioners, telecommunications equipment and washing machines.

Samsung’s sales also notably covered about half of Iran’s lucrative android phone market, with almost 18 million Iranians having Samsung devices as of February 2018, according to a report published by Iran’s largest app market Café Bazaar.

In November, head of Iran’s home appliances union Morteza Miri said that Samsung and LG’s affiliated companies in Iran – Sam and Gplus respectively – will continue production despite the departure of the South Korean companies.

He said that the two affiliated Iranian companies will continue production with “their own equipment, personnel and production lines” and that they have negotiated to import needed material from Chinese companies.

The departure of Samsung and LG from Iran came as both companies – unlike certain other South Korean businesses in Iran – had stayed their ground in Iran when the US-led sanctions were imposed in 2011.

Following the removal of sanctions resulting from the Iran nuclear deal in 2015, Seoul expressed remorse for previously abandoning trade with Iran, and rushed to ink new trade deals with the country.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy in Seoul, Iran was once the sixth-largest market in terms of orders won by South Korean builders before the 2011 sanctions.

Seoul has been currently forced to comply with new Trump administration sanctions on Iran despite openly acknowledging that Washington’s unilateral measures hurt South Korean companies.

Last year, Washington effectively banned the country from importing Iranian oil.

Before the sanctions, South Korea was the biggest client of Iranian condensate with 300,000 barrels per day (bpd) on top of 100,000 bpd of crude oil.

Journalists who received the phones to review before the public launch said the Galaxy Fold screen started flickering and turning black before completely fizzling out. Two journalists said they removed a thin, protective layer from the screens that they thought was supposed to come off, but was meant to stay.

But reporters from The Verge and CNBC said they left that layer on and their screens still broke, USA Today reported.

Videos on social media show one side of the inside screen intermittently flashing, and the other side as unresponsive.

The phone was “completely unusable” after two days, CNBC reporter Todd Haselton wrote.

The long-anticipated folding phone is about the size of a standard smartphone when folded, but can open up to the size of a small tablet. The phone is designed to work whether closed or open; when open, the single screen display is bisected by a crease.

Samsung promises the screen can withstand being opened and closed 200,000 times, or 100 times a day for five years.

The Galaxy Fold goes on sale April 26 in the US for $1,980, making it one of the most expensive phones anywhere — particularly if it isn’t as durable as promised.

Samsung did not immediately comment.

The company had a disastrous rollout of a new phone in 2016 with the Galaxy Note 7, which Samsung eventually recalled because its batteries were catching on fire.

Way back in July, Samsung unveiled its next-generation LPDDR5 DRAM chips. These offer significant performance improvements over the current LPDDR4 chips but are yet to be used inside smartphones. According to one tipster, though, this could change with the Galaxy S10.

When compared to the current-gen chips, the LPDDR5 standard brings a significant 1.5x performance boost to the table. This translates into a whopping raw data transfer rate of 51.2GB per second.

On a day-to-day basis, this will improve features such as 4K video capture, editing, and playback. Moreover, with artificial intelligence becoming a key element of devices, AI functions should now be faster and much more efficient. The new chips will also play an important role when 5G networks arrive due to the massive increase in transferable data.

As with most new technologies, LPDDR5 chips will also improve battery life. They have been engineered to lower voltage whenever less data is required. Furthermore, a new “deep sleep mode” allows for a 30% reduction in power consumption.

Considering the higher price tag that these chips command, Samsung may choose to limit their use to the premium Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and Galaxy S10 5G. This means that the smaller Galaxy S10E may stick to LPDDR4 chips. It is worth noting, however, that the flagship processor will be retained, so the performance drop shouldn’t be as noticeable if this strategy is indeed adopted.

For the first time in two years, Samsung is expected to report a drop in quarterly operating profits when the company reports its fiscal fourth quarter results on January 8th. According to Reuters, data from the Institutional Brokers’ Estimate System (IBES) shows that Samsung is expected to announce a 12% drop in year-over-year operating profits to the equivalent of $11.85 billion USD. Revenue will be 5% lower due to lower shipments of memory chips.

Like Apple, which announced last week that it was lowering its revenue guidance for the fiscal first quarter that ended last month, Samsung is being hurt by poor economic conditions in China. Samsung’s smartphone operating profits are believed to have slipped by 20% during the quarter, compared to the same three month period last year. Samsung has only a 1% share of the Chinese smartphone market compared to Apple’s 9%. But unlike Apple, Samsung is affected by lower sales of its processor and memory chips to Chinese smartphone manufacturers. These components make up more than 75% of Samsung’s earnings and 38% of its revenue.

The decline in Samsung’s chip business is expected to drop operating profits in that division by 3.7% during the fiscal fourth quarter to the equivalent of $9.4 billion USD. Shipments of the company’s memory chips are believed to have dropped by 10% during the three month period.

China’s economy is being affected by the current trade war with the U.S. Certain exports from China are being taxed, raising their prices in the states and dampening demand for these products.

Word on the street is Samsung is going to follow into Apple’s footsteps and not only ditch the headphone jack from the Galaxy S10, but also release three different versions of its next flagship forerunners. This will be a gradual evolvement over Samsung’s previous flagship releases, which had the company release two devices on the regular. The third version will be a more traditional Galaxy devoid of the premum features that would make it to the S10 and S10 Plus, but also possibly carry a lower price tag.

Now, we already seem to know a lot about all three of Samsung’s 2019 flagship phones, including the affordable so-called ‘Lite’ one, which will most likely be rolling under the SM-G970x model number. The latest hearsay claims that the base storage of that one will be pegged at 64GB, which is an adequate starting tier for most phones theses days anyways.

Also, we have no reasons to believe the microSD card slot will be removed, so data hoarders that jump on that one will likely have their options for memory expansion nonetheless. However, the rumor mill has it that the other two Galaxies, known as SM-G973x and SM-G975x, will arrive with as a whole lot of 128GB of native storage from the get-go, following right into the Galaxy Note 9’s footsteps. It’s yet unlcear if they’d also come with as much as 512GB of storage like the latest Note phablet.

Aside from amping up the base storage itself, the next generation of the Galaxy family is tipped to arrive with triple-camera setups and ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanners. However, the affordable Galaxy is most certainly keeping a single camera and a rear-positioned fingerprint scanner for cost-cutting reasons – think of it as Samsung’s upcoming iPhone XR.

Traditionally, we expect Samsung to announce its next flagsiphs sometime before next year’s MWC trade show in Barcelona, Spain, which is set to take place February 25-28.

And so, it’s official. Samsung’s long-rumored first phone with three rear cameras, that is. The world’s largest phone maker just issued a press release announcing a Galaxy A7 (no year notion this time).

Lo and behold, the A-series device does have no less than three camera sensors on the back, making it the first popular midrange line to include such a setup, and, perhaps, an indication what we are to expect from the Galaxy S10.

Galaxy A7 Cameras

Three (24MP+8MP+5MP) for the road, one 24MP for the road warrior’s selfies

While the eventual S10 is said to sport a main, a wide-angle, and telephoto cameras, the A7 makes do with one extra 8MP sensor with a wide-angle lens, and one 5MP for depth perception.

The main A7 sensor, however, is a rocking 24MP with pixel-binning technology, similar to what Huawei does on the P20 Pro, combining the information gathered by four pixels into one, presumably with higher detail, exposure and color quality. The kicker, however, is that Samsung is using the binning tech for low-light shots

The 24MP unit and the so-called Depth Lens work in tandem to achieve next levels of Samsung’s Live Focus feature which is glorified bokeh with adjustable depth of field levels post-shot. This promises some pretty svelte portrait photos out of the midranger but we’ll save judgment for our actual samples with the device.

Here comes the last, 8MP rear camera. What does it do? Well, Samsung calls it an Ultra Wide Lens, so its tasks are baked right into the title, and mean a 120-degree field of view, for those moments when you can fit the whole barn and its surrounding meadows, or your friends in a tight party room wholesale in the frame. This is similar to what LG does with the G7, though that one’s wide lens covers 107 degrees.

In a phone that touts camera prowess, Samsung hasn’t forgotten the all-important selfie shooter at the front, too. It is a 24MP affair, too, complete with Selfie Focus for bokeh-ed portraits, Pro Lighting mode for imitation of studio lamps, and even an “adjustable” LED flash for the times when faux studio luminance doesn’t cut it. It’s all tied up by Samsung’s Scene Optimizer that adjusts all components for a good shot automatically and includes rich scene recognition options for the rear cameras, which Samsung is careful not to call AI, and we are eternally grateful for that level of caution.

Design

The midranger is made out of premium glass material and comes in blue, black, gold and pink – plenty of options for every taste. The funky part is that the finger scanner is mounted on the sides, so there is nothing to ruin the front or the back’s uninterrupted design flow – save for that vertical triple-camera strip, that is.

The front is adorned with Samsung’s Infinity dislpay design, but we don’t know if we can still call it that with the thickness of the A7’s top and bottom bezels. The gear is quite large at 159.8 x 76.8 x 7.5 mm, and fairly heavy at 168g. Well, at least there aren’t unsightly notches to get into the way of a good visual.

Specs and display

It’s the era of 6-inchers, leaning towards the 7″ mark, and the Galaxy A7, doesn’t disappoint. It sports a 6″ 1080×2220 pixels AMOLED display with Samsung’s now-signature 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Processing power will be provided by an eclectic mix of octa-core Snapdragons and Exynos chipset, but Samsung says they will vary by region. Android 8.0 Oreo is on board, as the phone has probably been in the labs well before Google released Pie to manufacturers.

Memory configurations include 4GB/64GB with a miscroSD slot, 4GB/128GB, and a 6GB/128GB souped-up model. The 3300mAh battery size is pretty average, but Samsung is doing some good optimizations lately that squeeze every last bit of juice out of humble packs, so we keep out hopes high, as it would be a pity to waste a triple-camera setup on the road for the lack of power. The other ho-hum component is the microUSB port, but fast-charging is a given anyway, you’ll just have to fumble a bit more with the connector.

Price and release date

Does the “octa-core 2.2GHz, may differ by market and mobile operator” chipset disclaimer in Samsung’s presser mean the A7 is likely to land in America? Not for now, at least, as Samsung told us that it will be available in Europe and Asia “this fall,” but will roll out to additional markets in the future, hopefully including North America as well. No exact pricing is mentioned in the official info, but we already saw the European tag leaked to be €348 ($407), presumably for the basic storage version. Does Samsung’s first triple-camera phone tickle your fancy at that price?

Reports suggest significant” design overhaul for the upcoming Galaxy S10, as Samsung’s mobile division CEO, DJ Koh, talked briefly about the product.

Before we go further we’d like to ask you to take this with a serious dose of skepticism. Why? Because, for starters, it is really too early for Galaxy S10 rumors, even if they claim DJ Koh as the source. Second, it is not clear where all of this happened, and we can’t be certain of the veracity of the information.

AndroidHeadlines reports that DJ Koh has talked to the Chinese media earlier this week. Where and how that happened is unknown, as the only source is a Weibo thread. If you haven’t already lost your appetite for this bit, let’s continue. The report claims that the executive hinted a “significant” design overhaul for the upcoming Galaxy S10. There’s also a hint towards “amazing” colors. That’s all there is to mention, PocketNow reported.

It is known that Samsung has been using a yearly cycle for the Galaxy S flagship. However, only every second generation S-smartphone brings a design change, and Samsung introduced that with the Galaxy S8, and reused it with the Galaxy S9. Regardless of what the rumors above indicate, next year is the year for a design change.

Whether it will be dramatic, or more cosmetic, is unknown. As we heard this summer, there might be no Galaxy S11moving forward. The report didn’t indicate that Samsung was killing the line-up, but rather changing the naming scheme. Apparently, it will be easier and more desirable to adopt the scheme used by Huawei, when the company released the P20 instead of the P11 to follow the P10. Similarly, the Galaxy S11 might not happen, but we could see a Galaxy S20 in 2020, which would make sense.

But what if you could get it for close to $600? Not to mention that you’ll be buying the 128GB Galaxy S9+ model. eBay seller never-msrp has a great deal on the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S9+ 128GB, which is now available for just $665.

However, if you add the 15% discount code POPULAR that eBay is now giving away to customers who purchase Samsung smartphones (up to $50), you’ll be able to get the phone for just $615, which is crazy considering AT&T still sells the 64GB model for $915, while T-Mobile asks customers to pay $840 upfront for the same variant.

The phone is brand new and comes in its original packaging, which hasn’t been opened. The only issue is that it will not work on CDMA carriers like Boost Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon. On the bright side, it comes with dual-SIM support and a North American AC adapter in the box.
