SAIPA manufactured 81,669 vehicles in the mentioned period, 2.7 percent more than the output in the first quarter of the previous year.

Pars Khodro also manufactured 24,630 vehicles in the period under review, 9.23 percent lower than the figure for the same time span of the past year.

Iranian Industry, Mining, and Trade Ministry’s programs for the current Iranian calendar year show that the manufacturing of 1.2 million cars has been put on the agenda.

According to the Industry Ministry data, since Iranian automakers had produced 984,200 such vehicles in the previous calendar year, the country’s car output is planned to increase by over 21 percent in the current year.

The production of 8,968 buses, minibuses, and vans is also planned for the current year, which would be an increase of 378 percent in this sector. Last year, domestic automakers managed to produce only 1,873 units of such vehicles.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s industries ministry (MIMT) says car output in the country rose by 19.1% in the calendar year to March 20 despite closures and reduced activity measures imposed at plants by automotive companies to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

MIMT figures released on Saturday showed that car production had reached a total of 903,800 units at the end of the past fiscal year, up against 758,900 units reported for the year to March 2020.

However, a breakdown of figures related to total vehicle output in Iran over the same period showed that pickup truck production had risen by 6.5% to 80,364, while output of trucks, small trucks and truck cabs had climbed by 53.6% to 6,395 units.

Automotive companies had produced 7.8% fewer buses minibuses and vans compared to the year to March 2020 as output declined to 1,873, showed the report.

Tractor output surged by 15.9% to 21,666 units while production of combine harvesters reached 6,395 units, up 44.5 percent year on year.

Increased vehicle production has come despite weeks of closures imposed by the two main Iranian car manufacturers since March 2020 when the spread of the coronavirus pandemic caused the government to introduce lockdown measures across the country.

However, car manufacturers ramped up production last year to respond to growing demand in a domestic market where major international brands have almost no presence.

A senior MIMT official said the ministry has set a car output target of 1.25 million for the calendar year to March 2022.

Bahman Salehinia said that the Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) and Saipa would be responsible for a bulk of production at nearly 1.1 million vehicles.

Iran’s Auto-Making Industry Back to Its Heyday

IRAN NEWS ECONOMIC DESK

TEHRAN – Acting Industry, Mine and Trade Minister Hossein Modares Khiabani says when South Korean and French auto-making giants left Iran two years ago, nobody thought that Iran’s auto-making industry could have produced this amount of vehicles and to stand on its feet but it happened and the production trend of two Iranian auto-making giants have come back to their heyday.

Mr. Modarres Khabani said that it is natural that after focusing on the quantity and circulation, the auto-makers should be focused on improving the quality for international competition and regional market and all should move towards improving quality and customer’s satisfaction.

He further said that auto-makers should also work on the after sale services simultaneously with working on the look and technical aspect of their productions.

Modarres Khiabani added that currently the country is active in exporting auto parts, expressing hope that it can provide its need domestically and produce vehicle with competitive quality.

He noted that the production of vehicles in the country has grown by 18 percent in the first two months of the current year comparing to the same period last year.

He added that in this period, delivery of products of two giant auto-makers Iran Khodro and SAIPA have increased by 55 percent and 50 percent, respectively.

He added that the ministry is currently focused on providing the raw material to increase the auto production.

Modarres Khaiabani stated that despite restrictions, five million people registered for buying cars through lottery, adding that this amount of demand equals to production of cars in 2 to 3 countries. He said even in countries like South Korea, the number of produced cars stands at 3.6m annually while in Iran, five million people have applied for it.

Saipa midfielder Ali Dashti and Zob Ahan goalkeeper Rashid Mazaheri are among the eight players to watch at the 2019 AFC Champions League West Asia play-offs.

Iran’s Saipa returns to the AFC Champions League 12 years since its historic debut campaign that saw the team reach the quarter-finals under the management of Iran legend Ali Daei.

One of the key men behind its highest league finish in over a decade is versatile midfielder Ali Dashti. The 25-year-old brings flair and agility to the Tehran-based side and his ability to exploit spaces down either flank has seen him become ever more important to Saipa’s attacking game.

Dashti joined Saipa in the summer of 2018 after a breakthrough season with Pars Jonoubi Jam in the second division and was key to the Iranian side as it brushed aside India’s Minerva Punjab to progress to the play-off stage of the 2019 AFC Champions League where it will face Qatar’s Al Rayyan.

And Mazaheri, who is entering his fifth year at the club, has helped Zob Ahan reach the AFC Champions League Round of 16 twice, in 2016 and 2018.

He helped the Isfahan-based football team beat Kuwait SC on Tuesday.

Testament to the 29-year-old’s abilities is his selection by coach Carlos Queiroz to be a part of the Team Melli squad in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Competition from Alireza Beiranvand and Amir Abedzadeh meant Mazaheri has only won three caps so far, although he has constantly been part of the national team setup.

The 192-cm-tall custodian narrowly missed out on an Asian Games medal, finishing fourth in the 2010 edition as Iran lost to Korea Republic 4-3 in the third-place decider. Mazaheri’s skills will be crucial for Zob Ahan as the team attempts to stop fellow Iranian international Mehdi Taremi and his Al Gharafa teammates.

Kamal Kamyabinia made it 1-0 with a thumping long-range shot in the 15th minute.

Persepolis, who will travel to Japan on Monday to play Kashima Antlers in the first leg of the AFC Champions League, controlled the game until the final minutes of the match but they conceded a goal in the 87th minute after failing to clear the ball.

Mohammadreza Soleymani found the back of the net with a header from the penalty area.

“We could have won the match but our players wasted their chances. I think Saipa were the better team in the second half but we missed our opportunities,” Saipa coach Ali Daei said in the post-match news conference.

“The referee’s decisions went against us. The referee had to award us two penalties but didn’t do that,” he added.

“The referee had to send off Persepolis captain (Jalal Hosseini) for his behavior with his assistant but he sent off my assistant instead,” ex-Persepolis coach concluded.

Persepolis remain third six points adrift of leaders Padideh.
