Zarif Commemorates Sacred Defense Week

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif commemorated the Sacred Defense Week on the 40th anniversary of the start of Iraq’s imposed war on the Islamic Republic.

“We commemorate our fallen heroes—40 yrs after Saddam’s invasion & start of 8 yr Iran-Iraq war. We stood tall, with the world supporting the aggressor—even w/ chemical weapons. Let’s remember: -We can only rely on ourselves; -Those who start a war don’t end it; -War has no winner,” Zarif said in a tweet on Monday.

Iran is observing the Sacred Defense Week on the 40th anniversary of the start of Iraq’s imposed war on the Islamic Republic.

The annual event honors those who sacrificed their lives during eight years of resistance against the invading forces loyal to dictator Saddam Hussein in the 1980s.

New Defense Projects Underway: Iranian General

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said this year’s Sacred Defense Week in Iran would be marked with the unveiling of tens of new defense projects.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri attended a ceremony at the Islamic Revolution and Sacred Defense Museum of Tehran on Monday morning, held in commemoration of the veterans of the imposed war of the 1980s.

The Iranian top commander said this year’s Sacred Defense Week would be marked with the inauguration of “tens of defense projects and hundreds of construction projects”.

He also noted that 8 new Sacred Defense museums will open across Iran during the Sacred Defense Week, bringing the total number of war museums to 23.

In 2025, Iran will have 36 Sacred Defense museums and a museum of war against arrogance in the eastern city of Tabas, he added.

In Iran, the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war is known as the Sacred Defense, and the Sacred Defense Week is held on the anniversary of the beginning of the war in September.

The outbreak of the novel coronavirus has canceled this year’s military parades in remembrance of the martyrs in the eight-year Iraqi-imposed war.

Leader to Deliver Speech, As Sacred Defense Week Begins

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei is to deliver a speech on the occasion of beginning of the Sacred Defense Week Monday.

The Leader will address a ceremony marking the occasion via videoconference.

Ayatollah Khamenei’s speech will be aired live on local and international radio and television channels.

In Iran, the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war is known as the Sacred Defense, and the Sacred Defense Week is held on the anniversary of the beginning of the war.

Every year, in late September, the Iranian Armed Forces attend parades to honor the Sacred Defense Week in remembrance of the martyrs in the eight-year Iraqi-imposed war.

Iran marks Sacred Defense Week with massive military parades

The parades, which began in Tehran and 30 other cities across the country on Sunday morning, feature military units from various divisions of the Armed Forces, including the Army, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as well as the Police Force.

The parades in Tehran are being held before President Hassan Rouhani and military top brass, including Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, Chief Commander of IRGC Major General Hossein Salami, and Army commander Major General Seyyed Abdolrahim.

IRGC is in charge of staging the parades in Tehran and capitals of other provinces, while the Army is in charge of the parades in Bandar Abbas in southern Iran.

According to the announcement by military commanders, the Tehran parades will include, in addition to infantry units march, the showcasing of a number of military equipment and aerial maneuvers by military planes and helicopters.

The homegrown Kosar fighter jet will also take part at the parades toady, according to commander of Army Air Force Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh.

The newly-developed twin-engine military fighter made its airshow debut over Tehran back in April. Kosar, equipped with the fourth generation of avionics systems, is capable of carrying various weapons and is used for short aerial support missions.

The domestically-built air defense missile system ‘Bavar-373’ was also showcased during the parades in Tehran. Bavar-373 is a mobile surface-to-air missile system. It uses a long-range, phased-array fire control radar, dubbed Meraj 4, which can detect 300 air targets simultaneously.

Pres. Rouhani to observe Sacred Defense Week parades

The head of the Foundation for Preservation of Sacred Defense Works and Values, Brigadier General Bahman Kargar, said on Tuesday that just like the past years, the countrywide military parades will be staged on the first day of the Sacred Defense Week (September 22).

“President Rouhani will observe the parades in Tehran,” he added.

The president will deliver a speech during the event, which will be attended by top military commanders.

In late September 1980, the regime of slain Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein launched a war against Iran. The eight-year war is known as the Sacred Defense in Iran, and the Sacred Defense Week is held on the anniversary of the beginning of the war.

Every year, various units of the Iranian Armed Forces representing the Navy, Air Force, Army Ground Force, Airborne division, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Police hold parades to honor the martyrs of the war.

In capital Tehran, the parades are held at the mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, south of the city.

The most recent achievements of the Iranian armed forces in the missile industry, equipment for the ground, naval and air defense forces, as well as communication gear, will be put on display in the military events.

Similar parades will also be held in other Iranian provinces to commemorate the occasion.
