Tbilisi 2021: Iran’s Rouhollah Rostami seizes silver

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Rouhollah Rostami of Iran won a silver medal at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships on Friday.

Gu Xiaofei of China won the gold medal by lifting 230kg and got his revenge over Rostami for losing the Paralympic First place medal in Tokyo.

Rostami finished in second with 230kg.

The bronze medal went to Iraqi powerlifter Egyptian Mohamed Elelfat in the men’s up to 80kg with 217kg.

On Wednesday, Iran’s Amir Jafari had won a silver medal in the men’s up to 65kg.

The tournament is one of the compulsory tournaments to qualify for the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France.

Iran’s Rostami takes gold at World Para Powerlifting C’ships

The 2012 Paralympics silver-medalist won a gold medal in the men’s up to 80kg thanks to his 236kg lift.

Xiaofei Gu from China claimed the silver medal with 227kg and the bronze medal went to Egyptian powerlifter Mohamed Elelfat who lifted 225kg.

Amir Jafari Arangeh in the men’s up to 65kg and Nader Moradi in the men’s up to 72kg have already won a bronze and silver medal respectively.

All eyes are on the Kazakh capital city of Nur-Sultan as the strongest Paralympians fight for the World Para Powerlifting Championships title between 13-20 July.

A total of 441 athletes from 78 nations aim to win one of the 20 gold medals up for grabs.

The IPC Powerlifting World Championships, is an event organized by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Competitors with a physical disability compete, and in a few events athletes with an intellectual disability compete. First held in 1994, the competition is held every four years.

Powerlifter Rostami Takes Gold at Asian Para Games

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Rouhollah Rostami claimed a gold medal at the Men’s Up To 72.00kg of the 2018 Asian Para Games on Tuesday.
Rostami finished in first place after lifting 229kg.

He set a world record as well at this weight category.

Iraqi Rasool Mohsin won the silver with 220kg and the bronze medal went to Sergey Meladze from Turkmenistan with 185kg.

About 3,000 athletes with disabilities from a record 43 countries and territories are taking part in the games that opened in the Indonesian capital on Saturday.

The Asian Para Games will run through October 13.
