TEHRAN (Iran News) In a telephone conversation on Sunday, Pezeshkian and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed hope that the two countries’ cooperation would continue to expand.

Pezeshkian stated that due to his busy schedule, he is not able to accept the Saudi King’s invitation to participate in the joint Arab League-Organization of Islamic Cooperation summit in Saudi Arabia, which is set to be held on Monday.

He noted that Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref will attend the meeting, adding, “I have no doubt that under your prudence, this summit will yield effective and tangible results in stopping the crimes of the Israeli regime and the war and bloodshed in Gaza and Lebanon.”

The president also expressed hope that, given the will of the leaders of both countries, the relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran would deepen and expand in all areas.

The crown prince, for his part, expressed gratitude for the phone call, saying that Saudi officials fully understand the Iranian president’s conditions and wish success for “our Iranian brothers.”

“The relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia are at a historic turning point, and I hope they will be elevated to the highest levels in all areas; I value the opportunity for your First Vice President’s presence in Riyadh and will have discussions with him in this regard”, bin Salman said.

He reiterated his invitation for Pezeshkian to visit Saudi Arabia. In response to Pezeshkian’s invitation to visit Iran, bin Salman said that it would be an honor for him to travel to Iran, expressing hope that this would happen as soon as possible.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iranian Interior Minister emphasizes the significance of constructive cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia, stating that it is not only advantageous for the Islamic World but also for the broader region.

During the Tuesday meeting with the Saudi Ambassador to Tehran, Abdullah bin Saud al-Anzi, Ahmad Vahidi expressed the commitment of both states to strengthening their relations.

Describing the roles of Iran and Saudi Arabia as “important and decisive” in the Islamic world, region, and globally, Vahidi addressed external attempts to interfere in Tehran-Riyadh relations, urging that such interventions should not be tolerated.

Addressing regional security challenges and acts of terrorism, Vahidi stressed the necessity of cooperation and consultation between the officials of the two states.

He highlighted that when economic ties accompany political and security relations, stability and effectiveness are achieved, emphasizing the inseparable nature of development and security.

Touching upon the issue of Palestine, Vahidi underscored its paramount importance for the Islamic world and global communities. He condemned the “endless war crimes” committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza and called for collective efforts from all nations to halt the genocide, advocating for a pathway to provide humanitarian aid to the Gazans.

Regarding an agreement between the two states to dispatch Iranian pilgrims for Umrah Hajj, Vahidi expressed the Iranian people’s expectation for resolving the hiatus in pilgrim transfers and ensuring the necessary preparations are made.

On the topic of terrorism, Vahidi acknowledged the efforts of some countries in the revival of the Daesh terrorist group. He asserted that Tehran is well aware of American intentions to support Daesh reconstruction in Afghanistan and expand its networks in the region.

Saudi Ambassador al-Anzi echoed Vahidi’s remarks on fighting terrorism, strengthening Riyadh-Tehran ties, and providing humanitarian aid to Gazans, emphasizing that Iran is a “brotherly and important neighbor” for Saudi Arabia, noting various fields of cooperation between their interior ministries.

Al-Anzi suggested that activating security agreements made two decades ago could pave the way for enhanced cooperation, particularly in countering terrorism and drug trafficking.

Al-Anzi acknowledged Tehran’s efforts against terrorist groups and emphasized the collective responsibility of regional countries in combating terrorism.

He clarified that the halt in sending Iranian pilgrims was due to technical problems and expressed optimism that it would be resolved soon, “God willing.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iran’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia Alireza Enayati has expressed high expectations for the week ahead, emphasizing the anticipation of substantial events on the diplomatic front.

“We anticipate eventful days ahead this week. We have a busy schedule in governmental and popular relations during this week,” Enayati wrote in a social media post on X on Sunday. This statement hints at a flurry of diplomatic activities, suggesting a renewed focus on enhancing ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

The unfolding sequence of events has taken on increased significance in the aftermath of a crucial phone call that transpired between the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces and the Saudi Arabian Defense Minister on November 30. In the course of this conversation, both parties underscored their commitment to enhancing military ties between the two nations. This exchange stands out as a pivotal moment following the signing of the agreement on March 10, which was geared towards reestablishing relations between Tehran and Riyadh.

The diplomatic landscape between Iran and Saudi Arabia witnessed a turning point in March when both nations reached an agreement to restart diplomatic relations and reopen their embassies and diplomatic missions. This historic rapprochement came after seven years of strained ties and was facilitated through a deal brokered by China, with the primary objective of bridging longstanding gaps that had marred relations between the two West Asian nations.

In the aftermath of the diplomatic reset, both Tehran and Riyadh, in a joint statement, underscored the imperative to respect each other’s national sovereignty and committed to refraining from interfering in each other’s internal affairs.

The agreement seems to be gaining momentum as diplomatic channels open up for crucial discussions.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran-Saudi dialogue enters new phase as officials from both sides welcome talks. In recent developments between Tehran and Riyadh, officials from both sides expressed hope that the talks would be beneficial.

Speaking at his weekly press briefing on Tuesday, government spokesman Ali Rabiei said that the negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia began with Iran’s firm belief in giving priority to neighbors.

“We believe that dialogue, especially between communities within the Muslim Ummah, is the only proper way to resolve differences between them,” he noted.

Rabiei added that in some cases disputes may have complexities that take time to resolve.

“The policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is a specific policy called neighborhood policy and regionalism.” he highlighted.

“Iran has always wanted to maintain peace and security in the region”

In a similar note, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Saudi officials should know that the Islamic Republic of Iran, based on its principled positions, has always wanted the countries of the region to maintain peace and security in the Persian Gulf region.

“This approach, with the efforts and courage of Iran, has helped to end the domination of ISIS and other terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria and to prevent the infiltration of takfiri groups into the countries of the Persian Gulf,” he said, speaking to reporters on Tuesday.

Khatibzadeh said that the Islamic Republic has always welcomed dialogue to achieve positive results, and it looks forward to negotiations with Saudi Arabia.

Former diplomat: No progress achieved in Tehran-Riyadh talks

Speaking to Al Mayadeen news network, former Iranian diplomat Ali Amani said that he has not seen a tangible sign of progress in the talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

When Al Mayadeen host played a video of the Tuesday remarks of Rabiei welcoming talks between Tehran and Riyadh, Amani said that these remarks were made months ago as well.

“Saudi Arabia is looking for a hand to grab and save it from the quagmire in the region, especially in Yemen,” he said.
The former diplomat noted that it is now seven years since the invasion and start of the Saudi war against Yemen.

Saudi officials have long said that they will soon resolve the issue of Yemen and defeat the Houthis and Ansar al-Islam, but this has not happened, he added.

“I think the situation in the region should change with the arrival of the new government in Iran and the victory of Bashar al-Assad in the presidential election in Syria,” he highlighted.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Pakistan FM lauds moves by Iran, Saudi Arabia to reduce tensions . Pakistan’s foreign minister on Tuesday praised the de-escalation process between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

“The path for de-escalation is not short but Tehran and Riyadh have started this move,” Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said, according to IRNA.

Pakistan’s chief diplomat made the remarks in a press conference in Islamabad as he was elaborating on the recent visit by Prime Minister Imran Khan to the Saudi Kingdom.

Prime Minister Khan made a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia starting on May 7 to reset ties. Khan’s visit to Riyadh was a significant move to rebuild relations between the historic allies following recent setbacks, analysts said.

Pointing to his meeting with the Saudi foreign minister in Riyadh while accompanying Khan in visit to Saudi Arabia, he said during the visit Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan-al-Saud briefed him on the steps taken by his country in regard to Iran.

Foreign Minister Qureshi said “flexibility” on the part of Iran and Saudi Arabia is highly encouraging, and Pakistan feels that the wish for strengthening Islamic unity, especially in allaying concerns between Iran and Pakistan, is being realized.

He added, “We are hopeful about these attempts.”

Qureshi also called visit by the Turkish foreign minister to Riyadh and also the Saudi decision in inviting Qatar’s foreign minister to visit the Kingdom are all indications in in line with reducing tension between regional countries and they show common view by the sides that the only path to stability in the region is peace and security.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces Brigadier General Yahya Saree said Thursday that a domestically-developed Zolfaqar ballistic missile and four Samad-3 drones were used to hit an “important target” in Riyadh.

Yemeni forces will keep up their retaliatory raids against sensitive and strategic targets on Saudi soil as long as Riyadh and its allies fail to end their military campaign and siege against Yemen, General Saree said, al-Masirah TV reported.

“We promise the criminal and aggressor Saudi regime painful operations as long as the aggression and siege continue,” he added.

The attack on Riyadh followed four consecutive days of Yemeni air raids against Abha International Airport located near Saudi Arabia’s southwestern border with Yemen.

The Saudi regime has not yet commented on the report, but it usually claims to have intercepted the drones and missiles fired from Yemen.

Since early 2015, Riyadh and a coalition of its vassal states have been engaged in a military campaign against Yemen in a futile attempt to reinstall a Saudi-friendly government there.

Since then, over 100,000 people have been killed, according to the US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED).

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister said a visit by Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi to the kingdom has been postponed after King Salman bin Abdulaziz was admitted to hospital in the capital Riyadh.

“In recognition of the importance of the visit and a desire to make it succeed, our wise leadership in coordination with our brothers in Iraq has decided to postpone the visit,” Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said in a tweet on Monday.

Earlier on Monday, Saudi state media said King Salman had been hospitalized in the capital Riyadh.

The 84-year-old ruler was undergoing medical checks due to suffering from inflammation of the gall bladder, the state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted Riyadh’s royal court as saying.

King Salman “entered this Monday, 29 Dhu al-Qidah 1441 A.H., marking 20 July 2020, the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh to perform some tests due to the presence of inflammation in the gallbladder”, the court said in a statement.

Salman has been the king of Saudi Arabia since 2015 after he spent more than 2-1/2 years as the Saudi crown prince and deputy premier.

The monarchy’s de facto ruler is the crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, widely known by his initials MBS, who is said to be the chief culprit behind the brutal killing of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi by a Saudi hit team inside the kingdom’s consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, on October 2, 2018.

In 2017, he rounded up hundreds of wealthy princes and businessmen at Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Riyadh.

He demanded that they turn over large sums of their wealth as part of an alleged “anti-corruption campaign,” which observers said was meant to consolidate bin Salman’s grip on power and silence his critics.

Kuwaiti Emir undergoes successful surgery

Meanwhile, Kuwait’s 91-year-old ruler Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah underwent successful surgery on Sunday, a day after having been admitted to hospital for medical checks, his office said in a statement carried by state news agency KUNA.

The statement, however, did not specify what kind of surgery he underwent.

Asked at the Doha Forum in Qatar if the recent Riyadh and Doha talks that were made were good for the region, Zarif told reporters: “Of course it is.”

Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani told the same event on Saturday that there had been “small progress” in resolving the bitter dispute between Riyadh and Doha which advanced in talks, Reuters reported.

Sheikh Mohammed briefly met with Zarif in public at the forum on Sunday and sat in the audience as the Iranian foreign minister gave an address.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt cut diplomatic and trade links with Qatar in June 2017, accusing it of backing terrorism.

Doha denies their charges and accuses its neighbors of seeking to curtail its sovereignty.

Established in 2000, the Doha Forum seeks to promote the interchange of ideas, discourse, policymaking, and action-oriented recommendations.

Doha Forum 2019 has brought together many world leaders, thinkers, and policymakers to reimagine a global governance to address the collective needs and priorities.

Iranian top diplomat, Javad Zarif, held meetings with Doha top diplomats discussing issues of the region.
