Iran Ambassador, Russian Deputy Discuss Regional Peace

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s ambassador to Moscow and a Russian deputy foreign minister discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and plans to ensure regional peace.

Kazem Jalali and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin held a meeting in Moscow to discuss the Middle East issues, including settlement of the Syria crisis, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“Middle East issues were considered in detail, including the tasks of ensuring security in the Persian Gulf and promoting a comprehensive settlement in Syria based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional countries and non-interference in their internal affairs,” the statement said.

Vershinin and Jalali discussed urgent issues on the UN Security Council agenda and issues of coordination in the sphere of protecting and promoting human rights, including in the UN Human Rights Council, it added.

Yemen Crisis Talks, A Peaceful Solution

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined his country’s support for peaceful solutions and talks to resolve the Yemen crisis.

“Iran sees no benefit in continued war and siege in Yemen, but it welcomes peaceful solutions,” Zarif wrote on his twitter page in the Arabic language on Thursday.

He added that Iran welcomes all initiatives which invite to talks and persuades everyone to use peaceful solutions.

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched a devastating campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crushing the Houthi Ansarullah movement.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the war has claimed more than 100,000 lives over the past four and a half years.

The war has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories. The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.

The Western-backed military aggression, coupled with a naval blockade, has plunged Yemen into “the world’s worst humanitarian crisis”, according to the United Nations.

Iran’s Relations with Saudi Arabia in a New Phase

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Chief of Staff of Iranian President has said countries like Saudi Arabia, have realized that for the security of the region there is no other way than cooperation.

Chief of Staff of Iranian President Mahmoud Vaezi has said that Iran’s relations with Saudi Arabia in the past were friendly, but have always been under pressure from regional countries because of US divisive policies.

“But US policies have now become clear and neighboring countries have realized that there is no other way than regional peace to eliminate conflict and division,” Vaezi said in a recent interview with Iran’s daily Etemad.

Commenting on the new approach of the countries of the region towards US policies Vaezi said: “New US troops have arrived in Saudi Arabia and this is in line with US policies to divide and exert pressure on regional countries, and this policy will certainly fail with the recent approach of the countries of the region to discuss regional security.”

The Chief of Presidential Staff went on to say: “We have delivered a clear message not only to Saudi Arabia but also to all the countries in the region, and the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has sent a written message to all the countries in the region to resolve disputes, which represent our initiative and insistence on restoring peace on the basis of convergence and cooperation in the region.

Iran’s relations with Saudi Arabia can be improved for the sake of regional security.

Zarif urges region to join Persian Gulf peace plan

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Tuesday called on regional countries to join an initiative for peace and security in the Persian Gulf, dubbed as the Hormuz Peace Endeavor (HOPE), which he said was based on four key elements. Iran News quotes the report.

In an exclusive interview with Qatar’s television network, Al Jazeera, Zarif urged regional states to “boost mutual confidence” and join Persian Gulf peace plan.

He made the comments on the sidelines of a meeting of the main working group of the Munich Conference in the Qatari capital, Doha.

Zarif described the Strait of Hormuz as a common element among Persian Gulf nations, and a shared interest of these countries.

He added that the HOPE initiative is based on key principles: non-interference in the affairs of other regional nations, non-aggression, commitment to energy security, and resort to international law.

The top diplomat also warned the United States that a war would benefit no one, while underlining that US President Donald Trump cannot impose a unilateral pact on the Islamic Republic.

He also referred to the Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), from which the US withdrew in May 2018, insisting that any agreement on Iran’s nuclear program would need to serve the interests of all parties involved.

The Munich Conference opened on Tuesday with two core group meetings with several political leaders, senior officials and experts from the Middle East, Europe and other regions. During the conference, the current crises in the region will be discussed, and participants will explore ways to stop escalation and identification of possible areas of regional cooperation.

Zarif delivered his speech at the event, outlining Iran’s Persian Gulf peace plan initiatives.

President Hassan Rouhani earlier presented a plan for creating security in the Persian Gulf in cooperation with other countries in the region when he attends the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
