IRGC spokesman says British tanker escorted by a warship

According to the news service of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) ‘Sepahnews’, the Spokesman Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif said on Saturday that the British oil tanker ‘Stena Impero’ was being escorted by the British Royal Navy and it was seized after ignoring international maritime regulations by sailing into the Strait of Hormuz in the wrong direction, increasing the risk of collision with other vessels.

The IRGC spokesman added the British tanker was confiscated by the Revolutionary Guards at the request of southern province of Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Organization.

Sharif also noted that the tanker had switched off its GPS tracker in violations of international maritime regulations, using the exit lane to enter into the Strait of Hormuz instead of moving towards the entrance of the Persian Gulf, increasing the risk of accident.

He added that a British warship tried to prevent the IRGC forces to carry out their mission with flying two helicopters, but later failed to do so as a result of the decisiveness and agility of the IRGC rangers.

The spokesman also underlined that the vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz need to precisely observe international regulations to guarantee the security and peace in the strategic waterway.

Sharif further noted that the IRGC, along with other armed forces, on behalf of the Iranian nation, will act decisively in carrying out current international laws and exercising national sovereignty over territorial waters in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

He added that the Iranian armed forces will not allow anyone to endanger the Iranian national interests as well as the security of the region.

Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif made the remarks at a Tuesday press conference in Tehran aimed at outlining the programs of this year’s International Quds Day rallies in the country.

“The new generation of Palestinian people are more determined than the previous generations and this counts as an achievement of International Quds Day.”

The Israeli corruption and thirst for blood are unexampled in the world, he said, noting that most of the corruption and problems that in the world can be traced back to Zionists and among their latest efforts was the formation of Takfiri terrorism to fight the Islamic World.

“Today, Palestinians are the main victor despite the fact that Zionists have used all their forces and allies to occupy territories,” added the IRGC spox.

Initiated by the late leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979, International Quds Day is being held annually on the last Friday of Ramadan in many countries across the world to support Palestinian people.

No changes in IRGC Navy’s patrols in PG

The IRGC Spokesman Ramezan Sharif said Mon. that there have been no changes in the Navy’s routine patrols in the Persian Gulf, in response to Trump’s tweet on ‘zero’ confrontation between Iranian Navy and US warships.

“Confrontation with US warships has occurred time and again, the last instance of which ended up with the arrest of American marines and their subsequent apologies,” said Spokesman of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif.

He went on to add, “after that incident, we witnessed a more lawful behavior from the Americans in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz regions, so if there have been any cuts in the number of confrontations, it is because the US has learned its lessons, otherwise there have been no particular changes in the IRGC Navy’s routine patrols.”

On July 8, US President Donald Trump tweeted US Navy statistics reporting ‘zero’ harassment of US ships by the Iranian Navy in 2018, which stood in contrast with 36 such occurrences in 2016.

While it appeared that Trump was trying to imply that his intimidation tactics had something to do with the lack of confrontation between the Iranian and American navies during his term in office, Iran maintained that the case was because of US’ own decision to cut down on its illegal trespassing into the Persian Gulf waters.
