TEHRAN (Iran News) – Hassan Ruholamin, an Iranian artist whose paintings mostly revolve around stories from the history of Islam, has portrayed in his new artwork the arrival of Hazrat Masumeh (SA) in Qom.

For the past few days, he has been in Qom at the shrine of Hazrat Masumeh (SA), portraying the story of her arrival to the Iranian city on Rabi’ al-Awwal 23, 201 on the Islamic calendar (October 23, 816 CE).

The artwork is scheduled to be unveiled on October 25 during a celebration marking the anniversary of the event.

In 815 CE, Hazrat Masumeh (SA) and a large number of her relatives embarked on a journey from Medina to meet her brother, Imam Reza (AS), in Khorasan.

Due to his hostility toward Shias, Abbasid caliph Mamun ordered his men to stop them in Saveh, a city near Qom, home to a large population of Shias.

Mamun’s soldiers killed a large number of the companions of Hazrat Masumeh (SA) in Saveh, where she was taken ill. Therefore, she decided to take refuge in Qom.

Shia Muslims in Qom gave Hazrat Masumeh (SA) and her companions a very warm welcome upon their arrival in the city. However, she was in critical condition and ultimately met her death on November 9, 816 CE. She is buried in Qom.

Earlier in the Fars region, Mamun had killed her brothers Hazrat Ahmad ibn Musa (AS) and Seyyed Alaeddin Hossein (AS).

The Imam Reza (AS) International Foundation for Culture and Arts donated a copy of Ruholamin’s painting “Condition of Tawheed (Monotheism)” to the holy shrine of Hazrat Masumeh (SA) in June.

“Condition of Tawheed” has been created based on the Hadith of Silsilah al-Dhahab (The Hadith of the Golden Chain).

The 2 X 3.6-meter oil painting was made public during a special ceremony at the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in Tehran on May 12.

The artwork depicts the story of the Hadith of the Golden Chain narrated by Imam Reza (AS) upon his arrival at the northeastern Iranian town of Neyshabur.

The hadith refers to the continuity of spiritual authority that is passed down from the Prophet Muhammad (S) to Imam Ali (AS), the first Imam of the Shia, and through each of the successive Imams to Imam Reza (AS).

This painting has been commissioned by the Imam Reza (AS) International Foundation for Culture and Arts based on a contract with Ruholamin. Four other paintings about the life of the Imam will be created under this contract.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – As announced by a provincial official, 15 idle mines are planned to be revived in Iran’s central Qom province by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2022).

Mahmoud Sijani, the head of the province’s Industry, Mining, and Trade Department, said, “When reviving the idle mines, the issues of processing and value-added are of high significance, and given the existence of 45 idle mines in the province, it is hoped that we can revive these mines through a long-term planning.”

In terms of paying facilities to the mines, the official stated that there is no limit in this due, and 11 trillion rials (about $262 million) of facilities will be paid in the current year.

The head of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) has announced that 253 idle small-scale mines were revived throughout the country in the previous Iranian calendar year.

According to Vajihollah Jafari, the plan for reviving idle mines in the previous year was realized by 126 percent.

Saying that the mentioned mines have been reactivated as part of a comprehensive program for reviving idle small mines across the country, Jafari also announced that under the framework of the mentioned program 200 mines are planned to be put back into operation in the current year.

The official noted that the successful implementation of the said program in the previous year was achieved despite the problems created by the outbreak of coronavirus.

Emphasizing that the above goals have been achieved as a result of productive cooperation among the Industry, Mining, and Trade Ministry, provincial industry organizations, Iran Mines houses, and private sector companies, Jafari noted that since the beginning of the program in March 2019 up to the end of the previous year, 303 mines have been revived.

As reported, under the framework of the mentioned program, 672 idle mines were identified and prioritized in the previous year, and diagnostic procedures were performed on 194 mines to determine the reasons for the halt in their production.

The program, which has been at the forefront of IMIDRO’s missions over the past two years, is being pursued in several provinces.

Khodadad Gharibpour, IMIDRO’s former head had mentioned this plan as one of the most significant plans of “Resistance Economy”, saying that IMIDRO is strongly determined to carry out it.

Reviving the small mines not only is a major step for supporting and boosting domestic production, it also plays a significant role in job creation throughout the country, Gharibpour said back in June 2020.

Following this program, so far various small-scale mines including chromite, manganese, hematite, and dolomite, iron ore, copper, and construction stone mines have been surveyed by monitoring and diagnosing the problems of the mines and providing solutions for resolving their issues.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran on Saturday reported one more death among 10 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to five – the highest of any country outside the Far East.

Since it emerged in December, the virus has killed 2,345 people in China, the epicenter of the epidemic, and 16 elsewhere in the world.

The COVID-19 outbreak in Iran first surfaced on Wednesday, when authorities said it claimed the lives of two elderly people in Qom, a holy city south of the capital.

They were the first confirmed deaths from the disease in the Middle East.

“We have 10 new confirmed cases of COVID-19,” Iran’s Health Ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour told national television on Saturday.

Jahanpour said that of the 10 newly detected cases, two were in the capital of Tehran and eight were in the city of Qom. He said the two patients in the capital had visited Qom or had links with the city.

“One of the new cases has unfortunately passed away,” he added, noting that eight of them had been hospitalized in Qom and two in Tehran, without specifying where the death occurred.

The latest cases take to 28 the total number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Iran.

The outbreak emerged in the lead-up to a parliamentary election on Friday. State media said the disease had failed to dampen “the revolutionary zeal of Qom’s people” to turn out to vote.

Iranians have been snapping up surgical face masks in a bid to avoid catching the virus.

The Health Ministry said tests had been carried out on 785 suspected coronavirus cases since the outbreak began.

“Most of the cases are either Qom residents or have a history of coming and going from Qom to other cities,” its spokesman said.

All of those who lost their lives are believed to be Iranian citizens.

Iran has yet to confirm the origin of the outbreak, but one official speculated that it was brought in by Chinese workers.

“The coronavirus epidemic has started in the country,” IRNA quoted the Health Ministry’s Minoo Mohraz as saying.

“Since those infected in Qom had no contact with the Chinese … the source is probably Chinese workers who work in Qom and have traveled to China,” she added.

A Chinese company has been building a solar power plant in Qom.

Qom is a popular religious destination and a center of learning and religious studies for Shia Muslims from inside Iran, as well as Iraq, India, Lebanon, Pakistan, Afghanistan,L and Azerbaijan.

Concerns over the spread of the virus, which originated in central China, prompted authorities in Iran to close all schools and seminaries in Qom.

Iran had recently evacuated 60 Iranian students from Wuhan, the Chinese city at the epicenter of the epidemic. The students were quarantined upon their return to Iran and were discharged after 14 days without any health problems.

Iran has suspended all passenger flights with China for the past two weeks, allowing only cargo flights.

Iran’s civil aviation spokesman Reza Jafarzadeh said on Thursday that the “cargo flights, if necessary, are under supervision, and controls imposed by the Health Ministry are carried out.”

Following the announcement of the deaths, neighboring Iraq on Thursday banned travel to and from the Islamic Republic.

The Iraqi Health Ministry announced that people in Iran were barred from entering the country “until further notice.”

Kuwait’s national carrier Kuwait Airways also announced it would suspend all flights to Iran.

In Turkey, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said officials have started to screen travelers arriving from Iran at border gates and are refusing entry to anyone with signs of illness. He also said Iranians who have traveled to Qom in the past 14 days will be refused entry.

Saudi Arabia announced that citizens and residents of the kingdom are not permitted to travel to Iran following the spread of the virus there. Anyone previously in Iran will only be permitted entry to the country after the 14-day incubation period of the virus has passed.

The decision, while not specifically mentioning Iranian nationals, directly impacts thousands of Iranians who travel to Mecca and Medina for Islamic pilgrimages, effectively barring them from entry to Saudi Arabia.

According To Iran News, Iran’s holy city of Qom is slated to host a ceremony to honor the top Shiite cleric and leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky.

The commemoration ceremony of Sheikh Zakzaky will be held at the shrine of Hazrat Masoumah (AS) in Iran’s central city of Qom on Thursday.

Ayatollah Mohsen Araki, a member of the Assembly of Experts, plans to deliver the keynote address at the ceremony.

Sheikh Zakzaky has been held in detention since December 2015 and was charged just in April 2018 with murder, culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, disruption of public peace and other accusations. He has pleaded not guilty.

In 2016, Nigeria’s federal high court ordered his unconditional release from jail following a trial, but the government has so far refused to set him free.

The top cleric, who is in his mid-sixties, lost his left eyesight in a raid which was carried out by the Nigerian army on his residence in the northern town of Zaria in December 2015.

During the raid, Zakzaky’s wife sustained serious wounds too and more than 300 of his followers and three of his sons were killed. Zakzaky, his wife, and a large number of the cleric’s followers have since been in custody.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani says he will not run for re-election in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

“I represented the noble people of Qom for three terms, which has been an honor for me,” Larijani said on Saturday, according to ILNA.

Larijani added that “however, in general, I do not have any plans to be present in the next Majlis (parliament) and will not run for re-election.”

Parliamentary elections will be held on Feb. 21, 2020 with the approval of the Guardian Council

The midterm elections of the Assembly of Experts will also be held on the same date in Tehran, Khorasan Razavi, North Khorasan, Fars and Qom provinces.

Under Article 99 of Iran’s Constitution, the responsibility to supervise elections lays with the Guardian Council.

The body consists of six theologians appointed by the Leader and six jurists nominated by the Judiciary and approved by parliament.

Touching upon a plan to impeach the speaker, Hossein-Ali Haji-Deligani said, “The speakers’ performance caused Majlis not to stand atop all affairs.”

“The speaker has done a number of illegal violations whose last one is announcing his own private vote for gas price rise in the Supreme Economic Coordination Council, which includes heads of the three branches of the government, without consulting the representatives’ views,” Haji-Deligani have told earlier about Ali Larijani.

“In the meantime, the government optionally implements only those ratifications of the Majlis that it wants which is nothing but ignorance of legislators’ ratifications,” added Haji-Deligani, who represents Shahin Shahr and Meymeh in the parliament.
