“In this union, we have considered different aspects of cooperation with Islamic countries, one of which is the formation of mechanisms for greater convergence for economic development. It is expected that this session will focus more on the issue,” he noted.

Larijani added that the participants have discussed the Islamic human rights, in which we enjoy strong fundamentals.

Larijani further highlighted the importance of women’s participation and family issues in development f the countries.

He pointed to the decision of the US president to transfer his embassy to al-Quds, underlining that PUIC member states held meetings in this regard.

The Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) will organize an Extraordinary Meeting of the PUIC Standing Committee on Palestine in Tehran on Monday to address the recent developments in Palestine in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s decision to relocate Washington’s embassy in Tel Aviv to al-Quds.

Parliament speakers of Iran, Mali, and Iraq will attend the meeting and deliver speeches on the issue.

On December 6, Trump ordered the relocation of US embassy from to Jerusalem al-Quds, prompting negative reactions from almost all of Washington’s allies, namely the European Union, the UK, Germany and France.

Iran has stressed that the move would escalate tension in the Middle East and further destabilize the region.

The extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit held Dec. 13 in Istanbul, a week after Trump’s announcement, declared al-Quds as the capital of Palestine, rejected the US stance as “dangerous” and called on the international community to follow in its footsteps.

Parliamentary representatives of Algeria, Azerbaijan, Benin, Indonesia, Lebanon, Mozambique, Pakistan, Turkey, Senegal, Mali, and Iraq joined the Iranian representatives to hold the 38th meeting of the PUIC (Parliamentary Union of the OIC Members States) Executive Committee at meeting room at the PUIC headquarter building in the capital city of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Tehran.

The executive committee meeting was chaired by Issaka Sidibé, the President of the National Assembly of Mali.

In the meeting, the participant voted to form a delegation to be dispatched to Myanmar to figure out a report on the situation of Rohingya Muslims in that country and to initiate new efforts for ending the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar.

“We strongly support the territorial integrity and national solidarity of Iraq and offer congratulation over the recent victories of that country in the war against terrorism and liberating their occupied lands,” said Prof Mahmud Erol Kılıç, the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), at the end of the meeting.

The Iranian members of the meeting also announced that the next session of PUIC General Assembly at the level of Parliament Speakers will be held in a ballpark period between January 10 and 15, 2018 in Tehran.
