The two countries have high potential and capacities to boost their trade and economic ties, he added.

Currently, Iran exports about $100 million of products to Brazil and imports $7.6 billion of products from this South American country, he maintained.

An obstacle to the development of economic relations between the two countries is the problem of money transfer and banking relations, which the governments of Iran and Brazil must eliminate as soon as possible, the official stressed.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Amerian pointed to Iran’s tourism capacities and said as few Brazilian tourists visit Iran, responsible officials should take necessary measures to introduce the country’s tourism attractions to Brazilian travelers.

Indonesia is mulling over the package proposed by Iran, Jakarta’s Ambassador to Tehran Ronny Prasetyo Yuliantoro said, expressing hope that the PTA would soon be finalized between the two countries.

He said the agreement is important for accessing the two sides to the lucrative markets of either side.

The Indonesian ambassador to Tehran met with the Caretaker of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) Mehdi Zeyghami at the venue of the organization to discuss bilateral ties and issues of mutual interests.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Head of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture (ICCIMA) says Iran and Tajistan due to their commonalities as well as capacities should define and implement the preferential trade agreement (PTA) as it is what the private sectors should demand.

Speaking in a forum on trade and investment opportunities between Iran and Tajikistan which was held in Mashhad in the presence of a Tajik trade delegation, Gholam-Hossein Shafei said that one important thing that private sectors of Iran and Tajikistan should demand their governments seriously is to provide a ground for preferential trade agreement between the two states that it is supported by the commonalities and facilities of the two countries and their historic trade exchanges.

He emphasized that in the past years Tajikistan has been one of Iran’s important trade partners among its neighboring states but in some periods and due to some reasons the trade between the two countries has highly declined, although in recent one year and due to some developments and strong determination of governments, the economic exchange volume has significantly grown.

Shafei reiterated that the capacity for economic cooperation between the two states is more than what currently is and stipulated that presence of both states in two important economic blocs of Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an open chapter for leap in the economic cooperation of these two states and therefore, officials of Iran and Tajikistan can move in direction of improving exchanges and developing ties considering this important capacity.

He then pointed to abundant water resources of Tajikistan and said that regarding water resources restrictions in Iran and agro potentials in Tajikistan, both countries can cooperate in extraterrestrial cultivation to meet their demands.

Shafei noted that such issues are talked and pursued with countries like Brazil and Venezuela while capacities in the neighboring country Tajikistan has been ignored.

He also pointed to the issue of transportation and role of this field in Iran-Tajikistan ties, adding that there are many unwanted hurdles in way of Iran’s exports to Tajikistan and sometimes problems in transportation have considerable impact on both countries’ trade ties and therefore the issue of transportation and the issue of providing required infrastructures in this field should be put on the agenda of both states.

He then thanked Iran-Tajikistan Joint Chamber of Commerce for accelerating implementation of MoU which was signed between presidents of both states for forming joint employers’ council.

Meanwhile Head of Tajikistan Chamber of Commerce Mr. Jamshid Jomeh Khanzadeh in a videoconference addressing the meeting pointed to the trade exchanges between Iran and Tajikistan and expressed hope that they can develop the level of cooperation with using all facilities and capacities of Iran and Tajikistan.

He noted that trade and economic cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan is deep-rooted in the historical, cultural and lingual as well as brotherly ties of both states. He termed Iran as one of the most influential and advanced economic and industrial country, stipulating that several companies in Tajikistan have been set up with cooperation of Iranian economic activists and this shows the success and progress of Iran’s private sector in the sphere of international economic cooperation.

Jomeh Khanzadeh further emphasized that a good condition has been provided for investment in Tajikistan, noting that with the adopted policies in the county for boosting economic development, a good climate has been provided for investment and invited his Iranian brothers to take advantage of the current condition for effective presence in Tajikistan’s economic scene.

Meanwhile in the meeting Iran’s ambassador to Tajikistan Mr. Mohammad Taghi Saberi, for his part, said that Iran has asked for revoking visa between the two countries and Tajiks are studying Iran’s proposal and he hopes it would bear fruit.

Taghi Saberi who was talking online said that in new round of ties between Iran and Tajikistan, some good actions have been taken to deepen cooperation between the two states especially in the field of economy.

He went on to say that the trade volume between the two states has improved since 2019 but the capacity for economic cooperation between the two states is more than the current level. He also pointed to the launch of direct flight between Tehran and Dushanbe and said that these flights are considered as good capacity and expressed hope the number of flights would rise.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A third round of discussions on signing a preferential trade agreement (PTA) between Iran and Malaysia have shown a progress on Wednesday during a meeting held via a video conference call, said a senior official from Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization.

Anvar Kamrani said the two sides had discussed a main draft of the potential trade deal as well as issues related to the list of goods that would be subject to lower tariffs, Press TV wrote.

“It was agreed in this meeting that the lists proposed by the two sides be prepared based on national tariffs of the two countries and exchanged until October 13,” said Kamrani.

He added the trade deal could begin to be implemented once Iran and Malaysia agree on the preferential trade tariffs and the final list of the goods.

Iran has opted for an East-leaning trade policy in recent years as the country has faced growing economic pressure from Western countries.

That comes as unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States have caused a boom in Iran’s trade with countries in the region as well as those in Asia and South East Asia.

Iran signed an agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union last November to allow trade on lower tariffs. The deal has enabled Iran to significantly increase the value and volume of goods exported to countries like Russia.

Talks have been underway between Iran and countries like India and Pakistan for a PTA while search is going on for other avenues to ease Iran’s access to major markets around the world.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran and Turkey are updating the list of items in a preferential trade agreement, known as PTA, they have signed, the Iranian ambassador to Ankara said.

Mohammad Farazmand said the initial list of commodities under a preferential trade agreement between Iran and Turkey is not effective anymore, because it needs a revision, Tasnim reports.

He explained that Iran did not have any preference for a series of items in the initial PTA list, while a number of goods have also been removed from the list of Turkey’s preferential trade commodities in the wake of economic developments and the recent sanctions.

“The initial list is not implementable at present,” the envoy said, adding that the organizations in charge, namely the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran and Turkey’s Ministry of Customs and Trade, are compiling a new list of items with preferential trade tariffs.

Farazmand also unveiled plans for a new meeting of the Supreme Committee of Iran-Turkey Economic Ties in Tehran in the near future, saying the committee is going to make decisions to facilitate bilateral trade.

Should the conditions become normal, achieving a $30-billion annual trade target will be possible, since the value of trade exchanges between the two neighbors has hit even $20 billion in certain periods, the ambassador added.

Tehran and Ankara have ramped up efforts in recent years to boost bilateral trade, setting a $30-billion annual trade target and signing several agreements to enhance cooperation in various areas.

Turkey is one of Iran’s major trading partners in the region which has come under pressure from Washington to stop working with Tehran under the US’ anti-Iran sanctions.

Turkey has emphasized that the US demands to stop purchasing oil and gas from Iran would go unheeded by Ankara.

Chairman of Iran and Turkey Joint Chamber of Commerce Reza Kami revealed the considerable reduction of trade volume exchanged between Iran and Turkey from $22 billion to $11 billion following Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA).

He pointed to trade volume between Iran and turkey at $30 billion and said, “various obstacles in the fields of banking, monetary, insurance and also border and transit problems have thus far created serious barriers ahead of trade growth between Iran and Turkey.”

To put Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) into effect, the aforementioned problems should first be settled, he reiterated.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he pointed to the lack of operation of 15 agreements between Iran and Turkey and said, “trade volume exchanged between Iran and Turkey has been constant as much as about $10 billion in the past few years, a major part of which is related to the Turkish export of products to Iran and vice versa.”

He termed the determination of PTA in changing trade volume between Iran and Turkey as ‘ineffective” and said, “Iran’s export products to neighboring Turkey include oil, gas, base oil, petrochemical, copper, zinc, lead, bitumen, date while Turkish export products to Iran include wooden sheets, spare parts, combustion engines, various types of thread, medical equipment and cosmetics.”

A large portion of Turkish export products to Iran does not include preferential tariff, he said, adding, “the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) was concluded between Iran and Turkey after 10 years at last.”

He put the trade volume exchanged between Iran and Turkey in the first three months of the current year (March 21 – June 22) at more than $2.5 billion, showing a considerable growth in terms of export of Iranian products to Turkey as compared to the last year’s corresponding period.
