TEHRAN (Iran News) – President Hassan Rouhani inaugurated several major gas projects on Sunday afternoon. The projects include the offshore section of 27 South Pars gas field phases, the first phase of the Siraf Pars export port and two offshore chains of the 14th phase of South Pars gas field which came online by order of President Hassan Rouhani.

The remaining offshore chains from South Pars and achieving production in the offshore section of 27 phases of South Pars, the first phase of the Siraf Pars export and service port project in Kangan County and two offshore chains of phase 14 of South Pars with the inauguration of four offshore platforms, were officially put into operation in Assaluyeh, southern Iran, by the order of the President via video conference

The offshore section of South Pars phases covers in an area of 3,700 km in the Persian Gulf, and by the end of the previous Iranian calendar year of 1399 on March 20, more than 1.8 trillion cubic meters of gas and 2.2 billion barrels of valuable gas condensate worth $335 billion (considering the price of 18 cents for every cubic meters rich gas) was produced from the area.

The first production platform of South Pars came online in 2001 with a production capacity of 28 million cubic meters of gas per day and the last developed gas platform with a capacity of 14.2 million cubic meters was put into operation in March 2019.

Currently, the daily gas production capacity of the Iranian section of South Pars, the world’s largest gas field with 37 production platforms, 372 wells, and 3,200 km of 32-inch subsea pipelines, has reached 700 million cubic meters per day.

Two offshore chains of South Pars Phase 14, including construction, installation and commissioning of four gas production platforms, piping and drilling of 44 wells, are among the projects that were officially inaugurated on Sunday.

Pars Siraf Export Port Project in Pars 2 Region was also implemented as an important terminal for storage, loading and export of the liquefied natural gas and sulfur produced by the refineries in the region with an export capacity of 5,000 cubic meters per hour.

The operator of the South Pars Phase 14 development project said an investment of $2.5 billion was made in the project so far, adding the first gas sweetening train of the project’s refinery would come online soon.

Mohammad Mehdi Tavassolipour told a videoconference in the presence of President Rouhani and Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh to launch the project virtually that the project’s development was aimed at production of 54.6 million cubic meters per day of sour gas and 75,000 b/d of gas condensate from the joint offshore field.

He noted that the offshore section of South Pars Phase 14, which was designed, engineered and executed by Iranian contractors with a capital of $2.5 billion, has already been put into operation, which has achieved the most important goal of this project. “Cumulative production from phase 14 of South Pars bloc has been 36 billion cubic meters to date,” he said.

The official added that the offshore section of the project entails 4 platforms which had started to come on stream since May 2018.

Furthermore, he said that the project has made 86% progress so far and its first refining train will come online soon.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday ordered the official startup of 3 major petrochemical projects via videoconference.

During a virtual ceremony held on Thursday, Presidet Rouhani inaugurated the ethane extraction unit of Parsian Sepehr Refinery and two important projects for production of catalysts for the petrochemical industry.

The ethane extraction project of Parsian Sepehr Refinery is one of the 17 petrochemical projects that were put on agenda of the industry last year but was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite intensification of the COVID-19 pandemic, which was an obstacle in the way of projects, until the end of last calendar year, projects such as Miandoab, Kaveh, Lorestan Petrochemical catalyst production plant, Kimia Pars Middle East, Bushehr, Lordegan, potassium sulfate plant of Urmia, Hegmataneh, the second phase of Ilam Petrochemical plant, Bidboland Persian Gulf Gas Refinery and Kangan Petro-refinery were among the plans that came online throughout the year.

The ethane extraction project of Parsian Sepehr Refinery is one of the remaining projects from last year which came on stream on Thursday, April 15.

The plant is fed by Parsian Refinery, and Tose’e Energy Tadbir Company has invested $1 billion in the project which is expected to generate $1,000 million annually.

The project has been developed with 3.3 million tons per year of annual production capacity and generated 5,300 jobs during its installation and nearly 1,000 during its operation.

The two catalyst projects that also came online are among the knowledge-based projects of the petrochemical industry.

The two catalytic projects include the catalysts needed for production of polypropylene and heavy polyethylene (CX).

In catalytic projects, what is important is the development of Iranian technical knowhow, because for the first time in the country that production of such catalysts has been made possible and it is a matter of pride that the technical savvy of catalyst production is being developed by the Petrochemical Research and Technology Company (PRTC), and this will make Iran needless of importing these two types of catalysts.

Iranian petrochemical industry consumed about $270 million of catalysts per year.

There are 40 types of catalysts used in the industry of which 19 have so far been localized in Iran and 9 others will be introduced by the end of the current calendar year, which began on March 20, 2022.

The remaining 12 types of catalysts are being studied and will hopefully be added to the list of Iranian catalysts in the coming years.

Moreover, Sabalan methanol, Masjed Soleiman urea and Exir Halal projects are in the final stages of construction and will be added to the petrochemical complexes of the country in the coming weeks.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran opened two major petchem projects in northwest and center of the country to add some 25 million tons of capacity to its annual output.

Using a video conference call on Thursday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani opened the Miandoab Petrochemical Complex, a facility for production of polyethylene located in the West Azarbaijan Province on the border with Turkey, reported Press TV.

Rouhani also gave the go-ahead for the start of works at a hexane production unit at Shazand Refinery, a major petchem complex located in Markazi Province.

Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said launching the new projects would help Iran increase its gross annual output of petchem products to 100 million metric tons by March 2021 from 70 million tons currently.

Miandoab Petrochemicals would feed on ethylene transferred from southern Iran through a 1,660-kilometer pipeline, the longest in the world which has enabled Iran to economize fuel consumption in refineries located west of the country.

The refinery in Miandoab has cost over $100 million and is capable of producing some 140,000 tons of heavy polyethylene each year, said a report by IRNA.

Another petchem project launched on Thursday was a unit for production of hexane, a key constituent of gasoline, in Shazand Refinery. Authorities said the scheme would generate around $45 million in revenues for Iran through an increase of half a million liters in gasoline production per day.

Iran has continued to develop its oil industry regardless of a series of harsh American sanctions that have been in place since November 2018.

The country’s petchem sector has thrived massively at the time of sanctions as refineries keep sending major shipments to countries around the world, generating over $20 billion in revenues for the government each year.

Speaking on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Reza Ardakanian added that over $476.19 million have been invested in the plans, IRNA reported.

He noted that the inauguration of the water projects By President Rouhani is in continuation of a national initiative launched by the Energy Ministry in late September 2019 to implement 227 projects in 31 provinces with $7.85 billion in investments.

The minister noted that the projects include a steam power plant unit and three wastewater treatment facilities.

He said as part of the national initiative, the Energy Ministry’s mechanisms will also be reassessed in the current Iranian calendar year (which started on March 20) in addition to the implementation of projects.

“The reassessment of the mechanisms will involve efforts to guarantee maximum use of available financial and human resources as well as opportunities.”

Ardakanian put the amount of rainfall in the country at 270 millimeters since September 23, 2019, noting that although the figure indicates a 30 percent decline year-on-year, it is 60 millimeters higher than the long-term average.

He said the favorable precipitation in this period will allow us to allocate 30 percent more water to the domestic agricultural sector and has helped increase the water level of 50 wetlands across the country.
