TEHRAN (Iran News) – POGC begins new exploration operation in South Pars field. Iran’s Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), which is in charge of developing the country’s giant South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf, has begun new drilling operations in this field to explore the possibility of new reserves, an official with the company announced.

Ali Akbar Majed, head of POGC’s Oil and Gas Engineering Department, said the drilling operation of a new descriptive well at the northern part of the mentioned field is started to assess the possibility of new reserves in the field’s undeveloped areas, the POGC portal reported on Sunday.

“This well is aimed at determining the extent of expansion of South Pars gas field in the north side of the field and evaluating the potential of uncharted areas of this section for development,” Majed said.

The drilling operations are carried out by Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) under the supervision of Pars Oil and Gas Company, the official said.

According to Majed, identifying and exploring undeveloped parts of the South Pars gas field is among POGC’s top programs for maintaining production from this joint field, and in this due, four descriptive wells are planned to be dug in the northern areas of the field.

South Pars gas field, which Iran shares with Qatar in the Persian Gulf, covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran’s territorial waters and the remaining 6,000 square kilometers, called North Dome, are situated in the Arab country’s territorial waters.

The field is estimated to contain a significant amount of natural gas, accounting for about eight percent of the world’s reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.

The development of the South Pars field started in 1998 and 29 different phases were defined for the project along with a separate oil block. The field, however, is currently divided into 24 standard offshore phases, the output of which is processed by 14 gas refineries on land.

Since the beginning, the field’s development project has gone through so many ups and downs and many foreign and domestic companies have contributed to the completion of the field’s various phases.

Despite all the U.S pressures which led to the departure of almost all of the foreign companies from the project, and despite all the technical and engineering problems faced in the process, Iran has managed to proudly finish the development of almost all the phases of the field and even the field’s oil layer is also producing nearly 50,000 barrels per day (bpd) of oil.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Oil Minister Javad Oji has said the country requires at least $22 billion of investment to maintain the production level of the country’s gas fields over the next six to eight years, ILNA reported.

Speaking on the sidelines of a visit to the southwestern oil-rich Bushehr province on Friday, Oji referred to the abundant gas reserves in Bushehr province and noted that about 50 percent of Iran’s gas reserves and about 10 percent of the country’s oil reserves are in Bushehr province.

“During our visit to Bushehr province, we will discuss the completion of semi-finished oil and gas projects,” he added.

The official noted that a project for studying new methods of increasing the recovery factor of the country’s gas fields will start by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (late March 2022).

According to Oji, a big part of the needed investment for maintaining the production level of the country’s gas fields will be allocated to Bushehr province.

Back in September, Mohammad Meshkinfam, the managing director of Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), which is in charge of developing the country’s giant South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf, said proper planning must be made in order to maintain the field’s production level in the future.

“So far $80 billion has been invested for the development of the field and from now on we should try and make planning to maintain the production levels,” Meshkinfam said in a meeting with Oji.

He noted that out of a total of 400 wells in the offshore section, 336 wells are active and operational adding: “With the implementation of Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA) pipes, other remaining gas wells, whose drilling operations have been completed in the offshore section, will go operational.”

Referring to the operation of all offshore platforms in the South Pars phases, the official said: “Currently, 37 platforms are operational [in this field] and only two platforms of phase 11 have remained. With these two platforms going operational, we will have a total of 39 active platforms in the South Pars gas field.”

Pointing to the field’s average daily production, Meshkinfam put the field’s output at the time at 617 million cubic meters (mcm) and noted that POGC will ensure an average daily output of 700 mcm in the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 21).

He further mentioned the phase 11 development project, saying: “Over the past 20 years, nearly $80 billion has been invested in South Pars, as a result of which the offshore section of this field has been completed except for the Phase 11 which will be completed over the next two years.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Indigenizing the technology for the manufacturing of some special parts and equipment in the implementation of the development project of the phase 14 of Iran’s South Pars gas field has saved the country $170 million, head of the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO) announced on Tuesday.

Making the remark when visiting the complementary stages of launching the first train of phase 14 gas refinery, Mohsen Salehinia said that for the implementation of this huge national project, special and advanced goods such as rotating equipment and packages have been supplied for the first time by the domestic companies.

He stated that the value of this group of goods required for phase 14 of South Pars, which were manufactured by the domestic suppliers for the first time, is more than $170 million in the onshore sector and added that this group has not been so far manufactured domestically for the other phases of South Pars.

Last month, the head of Pars Oil and Gas company (POGC), which is in charge of developing South Pars gas field, had said that the first train of the phase 14 refinery is going to be completed and handed over to the commissioning contractor by early July.

Referring to the round-the-clock efforts by the refinery’s contractors in different work fronts, Mohammad Meshkinfam said: “As scheduled, the first train of South Pars Refinery Phase 14 will be handed over to the commissioning group in early July this year, and then the commissioning activities will continue to prepare the different units of this train for operation.”

He stated that weekly meetings are being held by the POGC’s headquarters for the mentioned phase to follow up on the project’s progress and address the problems of the contractors.

“Fortunately, with the follow-ups done, the ancillary units of Phase 14 of South Pars are now ready for commissioning, and in the process section, the reception facilities will be ready to receive gas by late May.”

Referring to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the commissioning of the mentioned refinery, Meshkinfam said: “According to the previous announcements, this train was scheduled to be handed over to the commissioning contractor by late June, however, due to the new wave of the pandemic in Europe and the closure of equipment manufacturing companies the handover was postponed to mid-July.”

He added that with the measures taken by the POGC’s HSE department, daily health control tests are being conducted to monitor the health of employees.

Meshkinfam had earlier announced that all the operations of the first phase of the South Pars gas field development project will be completed in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year 1400 (started on March 21).

POGC is in charge of developing South Pars gas field which is divided into 24 standard phases in the first development stage. Most of the phases are fully operational at the moment.

Phase 14 development is aimed at producing 56.6 million cubic meters per day of rich gas, 75,000 barrels/day of gas condensate and 400 tons/day of sulfur, and 1 million tons/year of liquefied petroleum gas and one million tons/year of ethane to be fed to petrochemical plants.

Back in October 2020, the operator of the South Pars Phase 14 development project said the project’s onshore refinery is scheduled to be fully operational by the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (September 2021).

The huge South Pars field, which Iran shares with Qatar in the Persian Gulf, covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran’s territorial waters. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers, called North Dome, are situated in Qatar’s territorial waters.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – NIOC awards Farzad-B gas field development project to domestic firm. National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has signed a $1.78 billion deal with a domestic company called Petropars for the development of Farzad-B gas field in the Persian Gulf, Shana reported.

The deal was signed by Mohammad Meshkinfam, the managing director of Iran’s Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), as NIOC representative, and Hamidreza Masoudi, the managing director of Petropars, in a ceremony on Monday.

The signing ceremony was also attended by Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh.

Based on the deal, Petropars is going to develop the field to boost its output to 28 million cubic meters per day of sour gas over a five-year period.

The gas produced by this field will be transferred to the onshore facilities of Pars 2 Region in Kangan for processing.

Back in July 2020, NIOC Managing Director Masoud Karbasian had said that the operator for Farzad-B gas field was determined and the deal for the development of the field was going to be signed in the near future.

Farzad-B, with estimated reserves of 12.8 trillion cubic feet of gas, was opened in 2008 by a consortium of three Indian companies: ONGC, Oil India Limited, and Indian Oil Corporation.

India was supposed to develop the field after its exploration, but the Indian side stopped its activities after the West intensified sanctions on the Islamic Republic in 2012.

With the lifting of the sanctions, India once again called for the development of Farzad-B by ONGC Videsh which is the overseas investment arm of the country’s biggest energy exploration firm.

In May 2019, Zanganeh said the Oil Ministry had prepared a plan for financing the project and the framework of the contract was going through final editions.

NIOC asked the Indian side to submit a technical plan and then a financial proposal for the development of the field, however, after submission Iran did not agree with the other side’s financial proposals.

Later in August 2019, Karbasian announced that Iran was not going to wait for India on developing Farzad-B gas field, and soon the project would know its operator.

According to the Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), Ali Asghar Sadeghi, deputy director of the project, said the main platform of Phase 23 and the 24B satellite platform were loaded on FLB124 barge to be installed on their designated offshore spot in the Persian Gulf.

He added that the simultaneous transfer operation of the two gas platforms was scheduled to take place next week, but thanks to the round-the-clock efforts of all the operating groups, the transfer of the 2,500-tonne super-structures took place earlier than anticipated.

Earlier this week, according to the CEO of the Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), reconstruction of two South Pars platforms 6 and 8 had finished and it was producing natural gas from the offshore field in the Persian Gulf.

South Pars field is the world’s largest gas field, shared between Iran and Qatar, covering an area of 3,700 square kilometers of Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf.

The giant reservoir is being developed in 24 phases.

The offshore sections of 27 South Pars phases would be fully developed in the first half of 2020, Iranian Minister of Oil Bijan Namdar Zangeneh has earlier told.
