TEHRAN – A documentary theater focusing on the moral inferiority of homeless women caused by drug addiction and prostitution in a slum neighborhood in southern Tehran was staged at the 36th Fajr International Theater Festival last week. Director Amin Miri with his cast and research team spent over 18 months interviewing 53 women living in the Darvazeh Ghar neighborhood in order to communicate on the subject.

To document their play, they also collected information about the issue from libraries. The information and interviews were transcribed in about 7000 pages that Miri handed to writer Sanaz Bayan to compose the play.

“We were in contact with each other until she completed the play named ‘Shelter’, which was warmly received by theatergoers,” Miri told the Persian service of ILNA on Monday.

He said that it was difficult to win the women’s trust at first. However, he found them quite agreeable after a while.

He also noted that it is a difficult task to get the official cultural organizations’ green light for staging a play and a documentary theater in particular.

“When you focus on a sensitive subject, everybody guards against it; they feel concern over what may happen as result of the performance,” he lamented.

Miri said that if the theater troupes working in documentary theater had the support of the government, everything would go well.

Miri’s troupe premiered “Shelter” at the Qashqai Hall of Tehran’s City Theater complex in February 2017.

He invited many MPs and directors of governmental organizations concerned with women’s issues in order to draw their attention to the subject.

A number of the interviewees also watched a performance of the play at that time.

Miri is an old hand at documentary theater. In 2013, he staged “The Blue Feelings of Death” about a group of children and young adults who committed murder.

TEHRAN – Iran plans to decrease its dependence to Google company products including Android mobile operating system, the Islamic Republic’s ICT Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi said.

“South Korea has reduced its dependence on Google and Android; this is also on our agenda,” Azari Jahromi told to an Iranian state TV channel.

Azari Jahromi’s comments came following a decision by Google to cut some of its services to Iranian users.

Last week Google Play followed Apple’s lead in removing Iranian apps from its store, citing US sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Companies such as Google and Apple were hosting Iranian apps reportedly under a license issued by former President Barack Obama’s administration in 2014.

Google has also cut access for some Iranian users to its Google Analytics service.

Azari Jahromi further said that Samsung company has a plan to decrease its dependence on Google services, expressing interest to talk with the South Korean company in this regard.

Iran also can hold talks with Japan regarding the issue, Azari Jahromi said, without unveiling further details.

Azari Jahromi earlier confirmed that negotiations are underway with Twitter aimed at unblocking the service, which has been banned for years despite being used by senior Iranian officials.

TEHRAN – Google has added more countries, including Iran to the Google Play Developer Console, a report said.

The countries of Iran, China, Cuba, Macau, Myanmar, and Sudan, which could not previously access the Google Play Store, or could not access paid services, will soon be able to use the Google Play Store, XDA-Developers reported on Saturday.

The list of countries which can access the Google Play Store has also been updated in their support section.

Overall, this expansion by Google would be a good thing. In these countries, there obviously is a desire for APKs and unofficial application market stores, which can be incredibly unsafe and offer apps injected with adware or malware. With the launch of the Google Play Store in these locations, users should be safer with an official market to download applications from.
