TEHRAN (Iran News) –Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Vahidi said the Iranian pilgrims that intend to travel to Iraq for this year’s Arbaeen season won’t need to obtain a visa.

He said the arrangements on the removal of visa requirements were finalized during the Iraqi interior minister’s visit to Tehran in late May.

The interior minister noted that both the ordinary and pilgrimage passport holders will be allowed visa-free travels to Iraq.

The Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.

It marks the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, pilgrims, mainly from Iraq and Iran, travel long routes on foot to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located.

This year, Arbaeen will fall on August 25.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A group of Indian pilgrims stranded in Iran due to the cancelation of flights as a precautionary measure against the Covid-19 outbreak, returned home on a flight from Tehran to New Delhi on Saturday.

A flight by Mahan Airline on Saturday returned home a group of Indian pilgrims, amounting to 310 passengers, who had been stranded in Iran amid the deadly global outbreak of the novel coronavirus, according to the Indian Embassy in Iran.

The group of Indian nationals, amounting to 120 passengers was also returned to their country last month.

Meanwhile, the last group of Iranian nationals who had been stranded in India amid the global outbreak of the novel coronavirus was returned home on a flight from New Delhi to Tehran on May 11.

Iran has been busy negotiating and coordinating with other countries to launch extraordinary flights, in a bid to bring home its nationals who have been stuck in different parts of the world after the coronavirus lockdown.

The return of the Iranian nationals was made possible through the efforts by the Iranian Foreign Ministry and embassy in New Delhi, as well as the cooperation of Indian officials.

Following an abrupt and unannounced decision by the Indian government to impose restrictions on and abolish all Iran Air flights (to Mumbai) and Mahan to Delhi, a large number of Iranian and Indian passengers encountered many unexpected problems while trying to return home.

“Security of pilgrims during Hajj rituals is highly regarded by Iranian side,” said Hamid Mohammadi in a meeting with Tehran province’s Hajj officials on Sunday.

Mohammadi said that since last year, the Iranian Hajj Organization has been planning for this year’s Hajj, adding that Hajj officials have been constantly traveling to Saudi Arabia to ensure the safety of pilgrims and prepare a safe Hajj for them.

He said “according to the Saudi Hajj Ministry’s schedule, public transportation inside holy Mecca will be out of work for every country’s pilgrims between August 15th and 21th.”He also emphasized that the first group of Iranian pilgrims are scheduled to leave Iran for Saudi Arabia before July 11.

Fifty percent of the flights will be carried out by Iranian and the rest by Saudi airlines, he said.

Hamid Mohammadi, in his visit to Mehr News Agency headquarters, had said that despite political tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia, there are not any problems in Hajj relations.

Speaking to Tasnim on Sunday, Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates’ Affairs Hassan Qashqavi warned Iranian pilgrims not to head to the Iraqi border without a visa.

Unfortunately, Baghdad has no decision to lift visa requirements for Iranian pilgrims despite Tehran’s repeated proposals for introduction of a visa-free regime between the two countries, he added.

The Iranian diplomat said some media outlets are encouraging people to travel to the holy city of Karbala in Iraq without a visa, urging them to stop making “false claims” about a removal of visa requirements.

Qashqavi also warned the public against departing for Iraq without passports and visas.
